Chapter 408 Onion and Meat Buns
The imperial kitchen has finished making the steamed buns.
As soon as the fist-sized buns filled with onion and meat were opened from the steamer, their aroma immediately filled the entire kitchen.
Once the steam had dissipated a little, a young eunuch who had been waiting nearby picked up a plate of steamed buns and took it to the deck at the stern of the ship.
The Tenth Prince's eyes were bloodshot, and he could no longer shed tears; all that remained was arousal. Even so, he still struggled to chop the onions.
Yuan Hongqu caught sight of the young eunuch bringing up steamed buns and figured that the hour he'd spent chopping onions was enough, so she went over as well.
"Tenth Prince, let's stop. That's enough for today. There's no point in practicing more."
The Tenth Prince then stopped and put down his knife.
Another eunuch brought water over, and after washing his hands, he still felt the lingering smell of onions all over him.
“Mr. Yuan, I think I have made a breakthrough. At first, I couldn’t stop crying, but later I just felt some irritation in my nasal cavity and stopped crying altogether. Does this mean I have mastered the divine skill?”
The Tenth Prince, disregarding the strange smell on his body, hurriedly went to consult Yuan Hongqu.
Yuan Hongqu swallowed back the words she was about to say; this prince was probably really a bit off.
If I tell him the truth, will it provoke him so much that he becomes even more foolish?
"Mr. Yuan?" The Tenth Prince called out again when he saw Yuan Hongqu in a daze.
"Oh, if divine skills were so easy to master, they wouldn't be divine skills," Yuan Hongqu said solemnly, coming back to her senses.
Upon hearing this, the Tenth Prince's excitement faded somewhat.
At this moment, Lan Su, dressed in a tight-fitting outfit, leaped from the back boat onto this boat with a single somersault. Seeing the two of them, she nodded in greeting, then took the basket Xiang Tao handed her, and with a leap, jumped back to the other side.
The Tenth Prince was dumbfounded. This was a true master! When would he ever reach this level?
Yuan Hongqu saw through his thoughts and immediately poured cold water on them.
“Lan Su started practicing martial arts when she was just walking, which is why she has achieved what she has today. You are starting to practice martial arts now, but you are a bit too old, and you have no foundation in martial arts at all. So you will have to put in ten times more effort than her, who started learning from a young age, and you may not even achieve half of her success.”
"That works too!" The Tenth Prince thought that even having half of Lan Su's abilities would be amazing.
“Our Daiyu studied under Lan Su for several years, and she only learned the basics. If you want to have half of Lan Su’s skills, it would take you at least twenty years!”
“It’s alright, I have time. I’m only fourteen this year. In twenty years, I’ll be thirty-four. Mr. Yuan, how about I become Lan Su’s apprentice?” Ever since Lan Su appeared, the Tenth Prince’s eyes had been fixed on Lan Su’s every move, never leaving her for a moment.
Lan Su frowned and glanced at the ship opposite. If it weren't for Yuan Hongqu still there, Lan Su would have thought that she was being targeted by a mad dog.
Looking next to Yuan Hongqu, the Tenth Prince was practically drooling with his mouth agape. Lan Su had no idea when she had offended this prince. He had red eyes and was staring intently at her.
Lan Su glanced at Yuan Hongqu with a puzzled look. Seeing Yuan Hongqu's helpless expression and the Tenth Prince looking at her like she was an idiot, she understood.
Lan Su carried the basket to the ship's dining room.
"The filling for these onion and pork buns is made by Miss Peach. You can smell the aroma from far away. If you're not going to eat them, I'll take them all!" She held up a plump, white bun and took a bite before anyone else could speak.
One bite and you get the aroma of scallions, meat, and oil—it's so satisfying!
"Miss Lan Su, give me one." Butler Xu immediately recognized that it was a steamed bun taken from the boat next door.
Others may not know that the Tenth Prince was chopping onions at the stern of the ship today, but as his steward, someone still reported it to him.
Presumably, the onion was chopped by the Tenth Prince.
Oh my, these buns are practically made by the Tenth Prince. It would be such a waste not to try them!
Butler Xu carefully and meticulously savored the food. He had only taken one bite when Lan Su had already finished one of her buns and picked up the second one.
"Miss Lan Su, what about us? We all want to eat..." Seeing this, the others also asked Lan Su for steamed buns.
In no time, the basket of steamed buns was completely devoured.
These things are naturally not for the students to eat. Even if they wanted to eat them, they wouldn't eat such big ones. For them, xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) are already the biggest.
However, Daiyu did not play by the rules. At this moment, there was a plate of steamed buns in front of her, exactly the same as the ones Lan Su had brought over.
Break open the bun, and inside are finely chopped onions. If it weren't for the slight onion freshness from the steaming steam, you could hardly see any trace of onions in the filling. Mixed with the onions are tender chunks of lamb.
The mutton is first stewed and then cut, then mixed with broth and chopped onions to make a filling. The resulting buns have a wonderful aroma that can be smelled even before they are broken open.
With a few refreshing and delicious side dishes, Daiyu felt her appetite instantly whetted.
After Daiyu finished her meal, she planned to go into her space to look at the flowers and plants to aid digestion, as it was too sunny on the deck outside.
Just as I was about to go in, I heard Lan Su's voice outside the door.
Is the young lady here?
"Yes, I just finished eating," Zijuan replied.
The biggest problem with this ship is that the sound insulation is not very good, especially when the ship is moving slowly, the outside noise can be heard even more clearly.
Daiyu casually picked up a book, and then the door opened, and Lan Su walked in.
“Young lady, I just heard from Mr. Yuan that the Tenth Prince has some strange idea and wants to become my disciple.”
Daiyu put down the book in her hand,
“That’s great. I think the Tenth Prince just needs a proper mentor to guide him. You becoming his mentor is a good opportunity to guide him properly.”
Daiyu was pleased with the outcome of this matter.
However, Lan Su doesn't think so.
“Young lady, our sect doesn’t accept just anyone. Someone as intelligent as you is naturally very welcome; or someone like me with martial arts talent, even if I’m a bit slow, we can still reluctantly take me in. As for the Tenth Prince, what does he have? What can he do?”
“He has tears, he can cry,” Daiyu said with a smile, covering her mouth.
“Girl, don’t make people laugh at a time like this. I’m telling you, if I were to take this disciple, I’m afraid my master would crawl out of his grave to punish me.”
"It's not that exaggerated, is it? At least the Tenth Prince has status," Daiyu said, tilting her head and thinking for a while.
“That thing is useless to us,” Lan Su said dismissively. “It requires its own ability; external objects don’t count.”
