Chapter 73 Baoyu's Drunkenness
Wang Xifeng was nervous all night, and even mentally prepared a lot of lines for the next day. She felt that there were no flaws in her lines before she finally closed her eyes and went to sleep.
The next morning, the Rongguo Mansion's entourage arrived at the Ningguo Mansion.
Baoyu felt extremely happy thinking that he wouldn't have to copy books today, and he ran around the Ningguo Mansion like he was free.
The entire Ningguo Mansion was completely subservient to Baoyu, this phoenix egg. During lunch, they even shared a cup of wine with Jia Zhen.
They're just kids after all; they got all worked up after only a short time of drinking.
Baoyu's handsome face was flushed, with a faint smell of wine, and his eyes were still sleepy.
Upon seeing this, Wang Xifeng immediately wanted to take Baoyu back.
Qin, Jia Rong's wife, hurriedly stopped him, saying that Bao Yu should stay here to sober up. She added that they had even invited an opera troupe over that evening, and since children love excitement, Bao Yu should have a good time all day.
Grandmother Jia also felt sorry for Baoyu's extra hard work during this period, and she also spoke up.
Wang Xifeng had no choice but to take it easy, so she personally led people to see the room prepared for Baoyu.
Qin Shi repeatedly mocked Wang Xifeng for being too meticulous in her work, but Wang Xifeng just smiled and ignored her.
She led the people to the inner room of the main house. Baoyu was already drowsy, but he still started to fuss over the room.
These past few days, his mind has been filled with the "Records of the Grand Historian." He felt he had put in a tremendous amount of effort, and today he wanted to let go of everything and have a good time.
Therefore, upon seeing the painting "Burning Reeds" hanging in the rest room prepared for him, which encouraged children to study hard, he felt extremely stifled.
When he saw the couplets on both sides of the painting, which were filled with words about scholarship and literature, Baoyu felt even more troubled.
Hasn't he been working hard enough these days? He even watches this kind of stuff while trying to sleep!
"Get out of here! Get out of here!" Baoyu lifted his foot and walked out.
Qin was about to speak when Wang Xifeng interrupted,
"Since Baoyu doesn't like it here, why don't you go back? Miss Lin isn't home today, and I don't know if anyone is taking care of your ginseng. Why don't you take this opportunity to go and check on it?"
Baoyu blinked, as if trying to clear his mind.
But at this moment, her tongue no longer obeyed her brain, and she blurted out, "I'm not going back... I'm going to see a play tonight, Brother Zhen has invited a great troupe..."
"Then let him sleep here for a while!" Wang Xifeng was also angry when she saw that Jia Baoyu was drunk and still stubbornly refused to go back. It was true that even God could not stop a devil who was courting death!
Fortunately, her older sister had told her that if she really couldn't stop him, she could let him rest in the room with the inscription "Understanding the ways of the world is knowledge, and being adept at human relationships is literature."
At this point, Jia Baoyu started acting like a spoiled child and refused to go into the room.
Qin Shi was the most capable person. At this moment, she suggested that Bao Yu go to her room for a nap. Wang Xifeng glanced at her sideways but did not say anything.
Qin felt a jolt in her heart at that glance, thinking to herself, "Why is my aunt so different from before?" In the past, whatever she said, her aunt would praise her the most. Her reputation as the most useful among her great-granddaughters-in-law was entirely due to her aunt's support.
Since my aunt gave birth, she has rarely come to the East Mansion. I suppose she has become estranged from me because we haven't been visiting as much.
“Baoyu, if you throw another tantrum while drunk, I’ll go home and tell Second Master! The Records of the Grand Historian is still too short. Just like the old lady said, you should copy all twenty-four histories!” Wang Xifeng said angrily.
"Sister Feng, the person in that painting is glaring at me. Let's go somewhere else. I don't like being here..." Jia Baoyu said, feeling wronged.
That brat!
Wang Xifeng thought to herself, "I really want to grab his ears and drag him home to give him a good beating!"
This is outrageous! He's only a few years old and he's already drinking like an adult! The situation, which was initially under control, has become somewhat uncontrollable because he's drunk.
The old lady and the other ladies were resting outside; it wouldn't be proper for them to make noise here for too long.
When Qin saw that Wang Xifeng completely ignored her suggestion, she didn't know what Wang Xifeng meant and dared not approach her again.
Wang Xifeng was thinking that it would be better to call two wet nurses over and carry Baoyu inside.
Then a young boy came and said,
“Reporting to Second Madam Lian, Master Zhen outside heard that Second Master Bao is drunk, and said that he would like to invite Second Master Bao to rest in his study outside.”
Since it was a study, there shouldn't be any problems, so they had several wet nurses and servants send Baoyu out.
A moment later, an old woman came to report that Master Bao had fallen asleep in the outer study, and Granny Li was keeping watch over him.
Wang Xifeng finally breathed a sigh of relief, revealing a somewhat tired expression.
Seeing this, Qin hurried over and said, "Auntie, take a rest for a while. We'll get up later and play mahjong together."
"Playing mahjong?" Wang Xifeng's eyes sparkled with excitement, her fatigue seemingly vanishing. "No need to rest, let's begin."
Madam Qin paused for a moment, then immediately said,
"Auntie, please wait a moment while I have someone prepare it."
When Baoyu arrived at Jia Zhen's study, there was nothing particularly special about the arrangement. He had been so restless that he didn't have the energy to be picky anymore. The wet nurses settled him in, and he yawned and fell asleep with his head tilted to the side.
"Baoyu... Baoyu..."
Baoyu swayed unsteadily, feeling as if he had just fallen asleep when someone called him. He groggily opened his eyes and was met with a green expanse. Upon closer inspection, he saw a body resembling a withered tree stump, and the thing was still calling out.
"Baoyu, we meet again!"
The voice was filled with surprise, "Get up quickly, I'll take you to play... Your sisters are all waiting for you..."
Baoyu felt a sudden panic, and all the memories of the dream he had last time came flooding back.
"Don't come any closer!" Baoyu shouted, hurriedly stepping back. This time, he was actually able to speak.
"Get away from me!"
"Baoyu, how can you be so heartless? You killed so many of my younger brothers and sisters, and I never blamed you. Now you want to take me to the fairyland to play. You're just too hurtful..." The voice, which seemed to come from nowhere, was full of resentment and sorrow.
Baoyu felt a pang of guilt, but seeing the monster with its head full of green leaves, he couldn't overcome his fear and cried out again.
"Get away from me! I want to go home!"
The thing didn't leave; instead, it drew ever closer. Seeing that he had nowhere to retreat, he was filled with fear.
Suddenly, seemingly drawing strength from nowhere, he threw a punch, and the monster took a step back. Seeing that it had an effect, Baoyu threw another punch...
A cry of "Ouch!" was heard, but the voice didn't sound like a soft, melodious woman's; it was a man's voice.
Baoyu felt a jolt in his heart.
