Huang Wanzhen first glanced at Hongye, then looked at Suisui who was staring at her with wide eyes. "The starting price is three dollars, and it depends on Suisui's lace-making ability. The stronger the ability, the more money I will give."
Huang Wanzhen was nearly 5 feet 4 inches tall, while Sui Sui was only a little over 5 feet 4 inches tall. Huang Wanzhen approached her, lowered her head, and looked her in the eye. "How about this? I'll give you three yuan a month. You can decide how to use it. The rest of the money will be saved with me. I'll give it to you during the Chinese New Year."
Sui Sui agreed without thinking, and immediately nodded. Three dollars would be enough, and she would accept the rest of the money regardless of whether the leader gave it or not.
The next day, Huang Wanzhen witnessed how skilled Shen Sui Sui was. The crochet needle and long thread seemed to come alive in her hands. After a while, she had crocheted a long lace. Huang Wanzhen took it and took a closer look. There were a row of butterflies on it. Huang Wanzhen counted them and found there were thirteen of them.
Shen Suisui smiled, "Mr. Huang, there's no need to count. I'll hook as many as you want. As long as you don't get tied up, you can keep hooking."
Huang Wanzhen finally came to her senses and felt that her behavior was a bit childish. She laughed uncomfortably and said, "Okay, that's good. Xiulan, you should learn from Sui Sui. I'm going to Jixiang Hall first. Come find me there if you need anything."
As soon as she entered the auspicious hall, Huang Wanzhen saw Sidonie. She greeted her warmly and extended her hand to shake hers. Unexpectedly, Sidonie put her hands behind her back and rejected Huang Wanzhen.
The smile on Huang Wanzhen's face froze for a moment. Just as she was thinking about when she had offended Sidonie, Sidonie took the initiative to give Huang Wanzhen a big hug. "Oh! Andy, I miss you so much. I have to give you a kiss on the cheek to express my longing for you."
Huang Wanzhen breathed a sigh of relief and laughed again, "Haha, me too. How have you been lately?"
Sidonie immediately said in Chinese, "Hello, Huang, Wan, Zhen, you are my good friends, let's shake hands."
Huang Wanzhen gave Sidonie a thumbs-up with admiration. "Oh, Sidonie, you can speak such a long Chinese sentence? That's amazing."
Sidonie covered her mouth with her fan and laughed, "Hehe," "Is my Chinese standard enough?"
Huang Wanzhen thought about it and realized it was indeed quite authentic, without any Shanghainese accent at all. "Ah! How come you speak with a Beijing accent? It's so standard."
Sidonie said proudly in Chinese, "I learned it from my grandma."
Huang Wanzhen switched to Chinese. "Who's grandma?" Huang Wanzhen was stumped. Sidonie's grandma? Wasn't she also French? Could she have studied Chinese?
Mrs. Huang rolled her eyes, finally finding an opportunity to look down on her second daughter. "I am the grandmother. Xiaoni and Zhenzhen learned to speak from me. Am I not Zhenzhen's grandmother? Xiaoni and Zhenzhen call me that together. I have corrected her several times and asked her to call me aunt, but she doesn't want to."
Sidonie only half understood what she heard and quickly explained, "Grandma sounds good and is easy to say, but Auntie doesn't sound good and is hard to say."
"Puff..." Huang Wanzhen was amused by Sidonie and broke down. "As long as your father has no objection, you can call me whatever you want."
Mrs. Huang glared at her second daughter. "How dare you criticize me? Look at what you're saying! You're still a high school student, and you have no skills at all."
Then, Mrs. Huang took Sidonie's hand and said, "Come on, Sidonie, let's go pick out some clothes. Is your party going to be Western or Chinese?"
Huang Wanzhen was no longer in a hurry to work. She followed the two of them into the reception room and asked, "Sidoni, do you want to make clothes?"
Sidonie nodded. "Halloween is coming soon. A friend of mine is having a party and invited me to go. I want to make a unique dress. The clothes in our store are very different and even prettier than those in the Illustrated Magazine."
Huang Wanzhen had not learned the Chinese way of being modest. She accepted all of Sidonie's praise without hesitation, even feeling a bit proud. "Of course, most of them were designed by me. They're a fusion of Chinese and Western styles, so of course they're different."
"However, my designs are more suitable for ordinary occasions. A Halloween party is not an ordinary occasion. Do you want to be the most eye-catching one?"
Sidonie clasped her hands together and clasped them in front of her chest, looking at Huang Wanzhen with bright eyes. "Think! Huang, Wan, Zhen, do you have any good ideas?"
Huang Wanzhen curled her lips in disdain and said, "Wait until you've mastered Chinese before calling me by my Chinese name. It gives me goose bumps when you call me like that."
Sidonie pouted unhappily, "Okay, Andy."
"I've designed two costumes specifically for you, perfect for the Halloween party. Come over tomorrow and have them make you whichever one you like." Huang Wanzhen said, then stood up. "I'll take your measurements."
Mrs. Huang immediately handed the tape measure she carried with her to Huang Wanzhen.
Everything was normal at first, until the waist was measured. It was found that there was a bulge on Sidonie's waist. Huang Wanzhen pressed it, and "click--" a purse with a red background embroidered with peony flowers fell to the ground.
"What is this?" Huang Wanzhen lowered her head and was about to pick it up when she heard Mrs. Huang Dong shout, "I'll do it!"
Huang Wanzhen was stunned by Huang Dongshi's shout. Sidonie took the opportunity to bend down and pick it up. "Nothing. It's just a purse my grandma gave me. I like it very much."
Huang Wanzhen looked at Huang Dongshi strangely, "Mom, it's just a purse, why are you so excited?"
Huang Dongshi waved her hand impatiently, "Nothing, go back to the office and work, you are not needed here."
Huang Wanzhen looked at Sidonie in confusion, but she didn't expect Sidonie to wave at her, using the same gesture as Huang Dongshi. "Nothing, go back to the office. We don't need you."
Huang Wanzhen wondered what was going on. Why did she feel isolated and bullied by her own mother at work?
Huang Wanzhen was kicked out of the reception room.
Huang Wanzhen stayed up late to help Sidonie design two costumes suitable for Halloween. One was a witch costume with a pointed hat, a black robe, and the hem and cuffs were designed in irregular wavy shapes to add a sense of mystery.
The other outfit is a devil angel style, a black dress with black wings. Huang Wanzhen added a hairpin to it and drew a circle on it.
Sidonie pointed to the circle above and asked, "How do I get this on?"
Huang Wanzhen explained, "Fix it with wire to the hairpin. Do you like this?"
Sidonie shook her head, then nodded, "I like both of them."
Huang Wanzhen shrugged and spread her hands. "So which one are you going to do?"
Sidonie couldn't decide for a moment. After a long moment of hesitation, she slammed the table and said, "Do both!"
Huang Wanzhen reminded her, "The clothes here are not cheap. Although we are friends, the cost is there. The most I can give you is 20% off."
