The village chief’s house was not far from the educated youth site, and Xu Zhiyi arrived there in just a few minutes.
The gate was wide open. The village chief and his family had just finished dinner, and the village chief was sitting under the eaves smoking leaf tobacco.
Xu Zhiyi knocked on the wooden door, and when the village chief looked over, she walked in.
"Is that Xu Zhiqing? What brings you here now?"
"Village Chief, I want to ask Auntie how to dry vegetables so I can make some for myself in the future."
The village chief nodded and shouted towards the kitchen, "Old woman, come here."
Hearing the shouts, the village head's wife came out with wet hands, "What are you doing? I'm still washing dishes."
The village chief pointed with his pipe in hand and said, "Xu Zhiqing, I have something to talk to you about." Then he went into the house.
The village chief's wife was very happy to see that it was Xu Zhiyi. Xiaoxiao had mentioned this educated youth several times at home, and even her old man praised Xu Zhiyi highly.
The village chief's wife had a good impression of Xu Zhiyi. "Xu Zhiqing, come in quickly." As she said that, she pulled Xu Zhiyi into the house.
"Xiaoxiao, a guest is coming, go and get a glass of water."
Yang Xiaoxiao was reading a book attentively in the room when her mother called her. She was a little unhappy about being disturbed.
When she walked out of the house, she found that the guest was Xu Zhiyi, who was looking up at her with a smile.
Yang Xiaoxiao was stuck. What was she supposed to do?
Oh right! Pour some water!
He quickly walked to the kitchen with a flushed face, poured a bowl of hot water, thought for a while, opened the sugar jar in the cabinet, and put some sugar into the hot water.
"Zhiyi, have some water." Yang Xiaoxiao's face was already gloomy at this moment, and she just stood aside. She wanted to know why Xu Zhiyi came here.
"Thank you, Xiaoxiao." Xu Zhiyi took it and took a small sip.
"Xu Zhiqing, what brings you here?"
"Auntie, I came to ask if you have any extra dried mushrooms and vegetables. I'd like to exchange some and send them back to my parents."
"Sure, I have a lot of dried ones at home. This will last for a long time when I take it back."
The village chief's wife agreed readily. These things were available in the mountains, so it would be okay to exchange some for Xu Zhiyi.
"Xiaoxiao, go and pack some for Xu Zhiqing, so he can take it away." Yang Xiaoxiao took action immediately.
"Auntie, this is my first visit, so I brought you some brown sugar and snacks as a small token of my appreciation."
Xu Zhiyi handed the rope tied with the paper bag to the village chief's wife.
The village chief's wife refused to take it, but Xu Zhiyi was determined and accepted it.
But the smile on her face became even brighter. A girl who is both filial and polite is so pleasing to the eye.
Yang Xiaoxiao packed out a big bag of dry goods, and Xu Zhiyi wanted to pay for it.
The village chief's wife was unwilling to accept it, and Yang Xiaoxiao also tried to persuade her, so she had to give up.
"Aunt, it's getting late. I'll go back first."
"Okay! My Xiaoxiao likes you very much. She has talked about you several times at home. If you have any questions in the village, just look for Xiaoxiao. Don't be shy."
The village chief's wife revealed her daughter's secrets, but Xiaoxiao was not angry. Instead, she looked at Xu Zhiyi with sparkling eyes.
"Okay, auntie, I will definitely look for Xiaoxiao." Xu Zhiyi had a good impression of the village head's wife and Yang Xiaoxiao.
Yang Xiaoxiao even sent Xu Zhiyi out the door, "Zhiyi, please drive slowly."
"Xiaoxiao, thank you, go back."
Waving at Yang Xiaoxiao, Xu Zhiyi's figure blended into the night.
The village head's wife put away her water bowl and found two yuan under it. "Oh, these educated youth from the city are really honest."
It was already dark, the moon was hanging high in the sky, and the bright moonlight was shining on the earth.
The road could still be vaguely seen. Xu Zhiyi walked steadily and turned a corner, where a figure stood.
"Pei Yan?"
"Um."
"You're not sleeping at home so late at night, but here admiring the moon." Xu Zhiyi joked.
Pei Yan's mouth twitched. "Give me the bag. When you're going to the city, tell me and I'll bring the game to the county town for you."
Xu Zhiyi thought this was a good idea, as it saved him from having to bring things back to the educated youth site. Carrying large and small bags to the county town would be too conspicuous, and it would be more convenient for Pei Yan to have a bicycle.
Smiling, she handed the bag of dried vegetables to Pei Yan and said, "Xiao Yanzi, you are so thoughtful. Thank you."
Pei Yan took it reluctantly, pretending not to hear it, and refused to accept this unpleasant title.
"Well, go back quickly."
Xu Zhiyi teased him, but remained as indifferent as ever. She waved at him and walked towards the educated youth point.
Pei Yan followed her from a distance, and only turned back after she entered the gate of the Youth League Home.
On the day off, Xu Zhiyi set out for the county town alone early in the morning.
I had greeted Pei Yan in advance. Not long after I walked out of the village, I saw Pei Yan, who was wearing a dark blue top and black pants, standing on the side of the road, holding his bicycle.
"I happen to be going to the city for something. Let's go together." Pei Yan said seriously.
Xu Zhiyi was a little surprised. "What if I don't leave so early? Wouldn't you have waited in vain?"
"I wasn't waiting, I just happened to meet him." Pei Yan denied it with a normal expression.
"That's great. I don't have to walk so far. Comrade Pei, please give me a ride."
Xu Zhiyi smiled and pretended not to notice someone's slightly red ears.
Xu Zhiyi sat sideways in the back seat, holding the corner of Pei Yan's clothes with one hand.
The white mist that has not completely dissipated in the early morning and the cool breeze brought by cycling make people feel more relaxed and comfortable.
Pei Yan, who was riding a bicycle in front, felt Xu Zhiyi pulling at the corner of his clothes, and the corners of his mouth unconsciously rose.
The boy was reckless and bold, and always rode very fast on the rugged road.
This time it was a little different, and I seemed a little cautious while riding.
Try to avoid uneven places as much as possible, just to protect the girl in the back seat from being bumpy.
The two of them didn't speak along the way, but the atmosphere was just right.
There was a section of road with a lot of gravel, and the car was bumpy and unstable. Xu Zhiyi suddenly lunged forward and subconsciously put his hands on Pei Yan's waist.
Pei Yan's body tensed up suddenly when a soft little hand suddenly touched his waist.
Is she hugging him?
When Pei Yan came to this realization, his face started to feel hot and his ears were so red that they seemed to be bleeding.
"Pei Yan, the road is not stable, let me help you."
"Yeah." Pei Yan responded without even hearing what she said.
He just stared straight ahead, looking like he was seriously riding his bike. It must have been too much exercise, and his heartbeat had sped up even more.
When they reached a flatter place, Xu Zhiyi let go of Shi's hand, but still held the corner of his clothes.
Pei Yan felt the hand on his waist withdrawn, and slowly relaxed his body.
When they were about to enter the city, Xu Zhiyi got off the bicycle, and the two of them went to the temporary resting place where Pei Yan had stayed in the county town before.
Pei Yan parked his bicycle in the yard and Fang Hai walked out of the house.
"Brother Yan, you let me go first. Why are you so slow? I've been waiting for you for a long time."
The foolish Fang Hai directly exposed Pei Yan's past.
