Ling Xiang frowned: "Did Zhang really let you marry a farmer?"
Ling Yan felt extremely aggrieved: "Third sister, you are the head of the Zhenguo Marquisate now. As long as you don't agree, mother can't force me to marry."
Ling Xiang shook her head: "Zhang is your biological mother. Whoever she tells you to marry is your parents' decision. If you don't want to, go discuss it with Zhang yourself. Don't ask me. Zhang is no longer a member of the Ling family. I can't control her."
Ling Yan wanted to plead, but Ling Xiang had already lost her patience. "I haven't eaten yet, Second Sister, please excuse me."
After being detained in the Marquis Zhenguo Mansion for several days at the request of the doctor, Xiaoyu was finally free and immediately rushed to the farm to find Ling Xiang.
"Miss!" Xiaoyu rushed over and hugged Ling Xiang, "Miss, Xiaoyu missed you so much!"
Ling Xiang smiled and rubbed Xiaoyu's head: "Why don't you take a few more days off?"
Xiaoyu said proudly, "I have never been away from the young lady for so many days. Without me by her side, who will take care of her?"
Ling Xiang wasn't really used to having someone to wait on her, but she didn't want to disappoint the little girl, so she nodded and said, "Indeed, without you by my side, I always feel like something is missing..."
Wu He scratched his head and looked at the little girl who was younger than the young lady, feeling quite at a loss.
Ling Xiang ordered someone to take Xiaoyu to her courtyard and settle her down. She smiled and explained to Wu He, "Manager Wu, Xiaoyu is the only maid I have available to me. Don't get the wrong idea."
"Oh." Wu He heaved a sigh of relief. He felt a little embarrassed to marry such a young girl...
Ling Xiang explained, "Actually, it was Zhang who decided to marry my second sister to you."
"What?" Wu He wouldn't dare to think that even in his dreams. "How can Wu He, with his status, marry the Second Young Lady?"
Ling Xiang: "You saw what my second sister did. If you don't want to, you can refuse."
Wu He thought about it and said firmly: "If the Second Miss is willing to marry me, I am willing!"
Just at this time, Zhang Qian sent a maid to invite Wu He to talk.
Ling Xiang didn't say anything more, as Zhang would take care of everything.
The next day, Wu Heniang went to propose marriage to Zhang. Lingyan cried and refused to marry, smashing everything in the room.
After hearing this, Ling Xiang was very calm, "Tell the Second Miss that anything she breaks will be deducted from her dowry."
After learning about Ling Xiang's attitude and thinking about Zhang Qian's determined look, Ling Yan started crying, making a fuss, and then threatening to hang herself. She asked someone to tell Zhang Qian that she was going to hang herself, and only when Zhang Qian came closer did she kick the stool away.
After Zhang Qian ordered someone to rescue Ling Yan from hanging, instead of feeling sorry for her daughter, she slapped her in the face:
"Yan'er! Marrying Wu He is the best outcome your mother has fought for you. If you really don't want to and want to die, I won't stop you anymore! However, your marriage has been decided. Even if you die, your body will be carried to the Wu family's ancestral tomb and buried!"
Ling Yan couldn't believe that these were the words and actions her own mother could say!
"Mother, what on earth has possessed you? I am your daughter, whom you have spent countless efforts to raise. I was going to marry a powerful man and bring honor to our family! How could you treat me like this?"
"It's your fault. You did something you shouldn't have done!" Zhang Qian was so cruel as not to look at Ling Yan's pitiful appearance. "In three days, the Wu family will come to pick up the bride."
"No, I won't marry!"
Ling Yan screamed, but Zhang Qian ignored her and only ordered the maid to keep an eye on her and not let her leave the room.
Lingyan collapsed to the ground.
When the rope was strangled around her neck and she couldn't breathe, she was really scared.
She didn't have the courage to die.
She tried to escape, but she couldn't.
She had no choice but to get married.
But she will never give in easily!
Lingyan chose to go on a hunger strike in protest.
Zhang Qian ordered people to send food to Ling Yan every day. Seeing her daughter not eating or drinking, she felt distressed. However, for her daughter's future, she could only cruelly tell Ling Yan, who was on hunger strike:
"Three days of starvation won't kill you, but it will leave you completely exhausted. If the Wu family despises you as their sickly new daughter-in-law, you won't even be able to assert your authority as the Second Young Lady and will be bullied. Think about it now, do you still want to continue the hunger strike?
"Yan'er, remember, as long as you are still the second daughter of the Zhenguo Marquis's Mansion, your in-laws will treat you well. Don't treat yourself badly, or people will look down on you!"
Ling Yan would not let those lowly farmers bully her, so she quickly got up and started to eat her food in big mouthfuls.
She will never accept her fate!
According to Ling Xiang's instructions, all matters concerning marriage were to be handled according to the highest standards of the manor.
Ling Yan's dowry was higher than the dowry Zhang received when she married into the Marquis of Zhenguo's Mansion. Ling Xiang was kind enough to add a little more to it because the land that was vacated when someone left was also included in the dowry.
The second young lady's marriage to Wu He really made everyone in the village envy Wu He's good luck. Apart from anything else, just the fact that he became the young lady's brother-in-law meant that he would have a bright future!
Lingyan put on her red wedding dress, said goodbye to Zhang Qian, and got into the bridal sedan.
The simple ceremony, the shabby sedan chair, everything made Lingyan feel sick.
Ling Xiang watched all this calmly and silently told the original owner, "Ling Xiang, they forced you to jump into the fire pit and marry into the Qin Palace to suffer. Now, I have shattered Ling Yan's dream of marrying a powerful man. This can be regarded as tit for tat. You can rest assured now."
No one dared to disturb the second young lady's bridal chamber, but that didn't stop them from getting the groom, Wu He, drunk.
Wu He didn't dare to drink too much, so he called on his brothers to help him drink. As they toasted each other, the village became very lively.
