July 20th.
Today is a big day on the island. The shops opposite the family compound have finally been repaired, and the shops that Lu Jingnian promised everyone have opened.
Calling it a store is an understatement; it's more like a small shop selling everyday items like cooking oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, and other household goods.
Eight shops were built side by side. Behind the shops was an open space with a roof to shelter them from the wind and rain, which served as a farmers' market. People could bring any unused items to the market to sell.
On the first day the convenience store opened, it was packed with people.
The person in charge of the daily business of the convenience store is a young girl named Qiu Lijuan. She is in her early twenties, has two braids, and has two dimples when she smiles. She is very sunny and cheerful.
"Xiao Qiu, do you sell soy sauce? I'd like to buy a bottle."
Qiu Lijuan replied with a smile, "Yes, Auntie, it's two cents a bottle."
"Do you have any cigarettes?" a middle-aged man asked, pushing his way to the front.
“I used to smoke cigarettes, but after I came to the island with my son, we couldn’t even smoke. I’ve been craving cigarettes for a long time.”
"Yes, Uncle."
“We only have Da Tuanjie (a type of local currency), do you want it?” Qiu Lijuan answered patiently and gently.
Upon hearing this, the middle-aged man's eyes lit up immediately. "Yes, give me one."
Seeing this, the other smokers immediately rushed to buy the cigarettes, selling out all the cigarettes the convenience store had prepared.
Qiu Lijuan was busy moving around. Despite the large number of people, she remained calm and orderly, selling goods and collecting money in an organized manner.
Xiang Wanwan and Wang Sao watched from the side, with Wang Sao clicking her tongue in amazement.
"Tsk tsk, how come I never noticed before that the people on our island are so rich that they buy cigarettes by the carton?"
"It's not surprising. There were no places to spend money on the island before, so everyone was saving up. Now that they can buy things, why not buy to their heart's content?"
"I think this little shop will have to close down in two days at most."
Aunt Wang looked at Xiang Wanwan with a puzzled expression, "What's wrong? Are you not driving?"
Xiang Wanwan smiled slightly: "No, given the current situation, the goods will be sold out in two days. We'll have to wait until next month to go out of the island to make more purchases."
"Oh dear, it really is! I'd better hurry and grab some too." Aunt Wang slapped her thigh and immediately rushed to the front.
Xiang Wanwan smiled as she looked at the scene before her; it was full of life.
She walked forward and looked at the shop at the very front.
When Lu Jingnian comes back tonight, I'll mention it to him and ask if he could reserve a room for her.
We'll set up a pork shop then, specializing in selling fresh pork.
After looking at the shop, a commotion suddenly came from the convenience store, and Xiang Wanwan immediately went over.
"I clearly asked for this first, why are you taking it from me?"
"Hmph, since you didn't pay, it's mine! Besides, do you even have the money to pay, you country bumpkin?"
"Smack!"
As soon as Xiang Wanwan approached, she saw the woman opposite her slap Wang Sao.
"Smack!"
"Who do you think you are? How dare you hit Sister Wang! She is the widow of a martyr."
"What? You're used to stealing men?"
The woman in front of him was Xiang Xinrong's new lover, the fourth one.
When the people around heard what Xiang Wanwan said, they all started whispering among themselves.
"Isn't that Ms. Ge, the school's logistics teacher? Why is she stealing a man? Isn't she a widow?"
"Yes, I heard that as soon as her husband died, she came looking for her son."
"Judging from what Comrade Xiang is saying, whose man did she steal?"
"I don't know, let me check again!"
It turns out she was a teacher.
Xiang Wanwan looked at the woman more closely. She had thought the woman had never been married, but she hadn't expected that she had a son and was still a widow.
