Chapter 26 You Dislike Me? (1/3)

That evening, Xiang Wanwan indeed developed a fever.

When Lu Jingnian returned, he found the house completely dark.

Upon entering the bedroom, I saw Xiang Wanwan lying on the bed, fast asleep, wearing only a thin nightgown, with the blanket kicked to the side.

Her face was unusually flushed. Lu Jingnian reached out and touched her forehead; it was much hotter than usual.

"Xiang Wanwan?"

Lu Jingnian bent down and whispered in her ear.

In a daze, Xiang Wanwan heard Lu Jingnian calling her, but her throat was dry and she couldn't speak at all.

He could only manage to raise his hand with difficulty.

Lu Jingnian felt a sudden panic, and without hesitation, he immediately wrapped the person in the blanket, picked him up, and walked towards the door.

Soon, Lu Jingnian carried her into the only military hospital on the island.

As Lu Jingnian watched the doctor administer an IV to her, the thin needle piercing her fair hand, his brows furrowed, and a sudden, inexplicable pang of pain shot through his heart.

Two hours later.

Xiang Wanwan lay quietly in bed, her complexion much better than when she first arrived.

However, she still looked a little haggard.

Lu Jingnian sat beside the bed, quietly watching her.

The nurses from the nearby hospital kept glancing over here, gossiping amongst themselves:

"Is that Chief Lu's wife?"

"That's right, Chief Lu personally brought it over and has been guarding it ever since."

"Tsk tsk tsk, I never expected that Chief Lu would not only be handsome, but also treat his wife so well!"

"How could she not be good? You didn't see how beautiful she is. If I had a wife as beautiful as her, I would treat her well too."

The thinner nurse next to her nudged her gently and chuckled, "What kind of wife do you need, a woman like you?"

The two of them burst into laughter.

With the help of the medication, Xiang Wanwan's fever finally subsided.

She slowly woke up, opened her eyes, and saw Lu Jingnian guarding her bedside.

He had dark circles under his eyes, stubble on his chin, and looked very tired.

Xiang Wanwan gently touched his hand that was placed by the bedside and said in a hoarse voice, "Hungry."

She hadn't eaten anything that evening, and after all this time, her stomach was completely empty.

"Wait a minute, I'll go find you something to eat."

"good."

Xiang Wanwan watched his hurried departure and felt a touch of emotion.

In her past life, she was a lowly employee at a company, almost thirty years old and still single. She had a boyfriend, but he cheated on her, and they broke up.

Unexpectedly, after transmigrating into the book and arriving here, I actually met Lu Jingnian.

He's so much better than that scumbag from my past life.

Perhaps this is fate!

Soon, Lu Jingnian returned, carrying an aluminum lunchbox.

I opened the lunchbox, and inside was a box of plain porridge.
