Chapter 19: Danger Begins
When the doorbell rang, Shuxin had just changed into her sportswear and came out. Mu Qimai was waiting for her in the training room, preparing for today's battle training.
The power stored in the doorbell can last for a few days after the power outage. Hearing the doorbell, Makimai came out of the training room and looked at Shuxin who was walking down from the upstairs. Both of them saw vigilance in each other's eyes.
Not long after Yan Mo and Xi Xiangwen left, someone came up and rang the doorbell, which made them think too much.
Shuxin and Muqimai opened the video doorbell and saw only a man standing outside. They did not open the door rashly. Shuxin took a few quick steps to the computer in the living room and called up the surveillance screen outside the door. Sure enough, there was another man hiding in the blind spot of the video doorbell.
After Mu Qimai moved here, he rarely went out during the day. He usually went out in the middle of the night. People in the community probably only knew that there were two men and one woman living in 2401 and 2501, and they didn't know there was a fourth person.
The two men outside the door probably thought that since the other two men were out, leaving only a woman alone at home, they had an opportunity. As long as they could trick the woman out, wouldn't they, two grown men, be able to subdue a woman?
Then they can take whatever they want in the house, or they may not be satisfied after taking something, and may want to do something else because Shuxin is pretty.
Shu Xin could feel their plan going wrong even through the door. The two people outside the door had no idea that their plan had been exposed. When no one answered the doorbell, they started knocking hard, as if they would not stop until the door was opened.
What Shuxin could figure out, Mu Qimai, who had been in the gray area for many years, understood faster. His face suddenly darkened, and he waved his hand for Shuxin to stand back, and he went to open the door.
The person outside the door probably didn't expect the door to be opened suddenly. He staggered and almost fell on Mu Qimai.
"You fucking ..."
Fang Cang managed to steady himself. He knocked on the door for such a long time and it finally opened. He almost fell down in embarrassment. He was so anxious to save face that he wanted to curse without even raising his head or opening his mouth.
"What's the matter with the knocking?"
Makimai has a typical tough guy look with a scar on the left side of his eyebrow, which makes him look like someone who is not easy to mess with. His aura makes people stay away from him.
The man's voice made Fang Cang's unfinished words stuck in his throat. He raised his head and looked at Mu Qimai in surprise.
He was frightened by the gloomy face of Mu Qimai and took two steps back. He subconsciously looked at the other person hiding in the corner, and found that the place was empty without even a shadow of a person. As soon as Mu Qimai came out, the man had slipped away without any loyalty, and did not even warn him before leaving.
Fang Cang's legs were trembling with fear, and he put on a smile that couldn't be uglier. "Nothing... nothing. I just wanted to ask if you guys want to go shopping together?"
"No, hurry up and put away your little tricks. I won't let you and your accomplices off so easily next time."
Mu Qimai took a step forward, grabbed Fang Cang's collar and lifted him up, then looked down at the ferocity in his eyes that he did not conceal, allowing the other party to see it clearly and not dare to provoke him easily again.
He threw the person to the ground and, under Makimai's gaze, he crawled away from the 24th floor.
Fang Cang returned to his current residence and saw that Xiong Zhengyang had left him and ran away. He didn't even have the strength to hit him. His hands and feet were still weak. He didn't know how he got down from the 24th floor. The intimidation that Mu Qinmai gave him was too strong.
Normal people would definitely not have that kind of murderous aura. They wanted to pick an easy target, but ended up picking the toughest target in the entire building. They almost broke their hands. It was a bad start.
After this incident, Shuxin trained more seriously and focused than ever before. She suddenly realized that her thinking had not changed from the peacetime era. Although she was mentally prepared to face the end of the world, she still could not truly bring herself into the world of the end of the world.
From the time she knew she had traveled through time to a book to the time when the natural disaster had struck, she had always psychologically considered herself an outsider, a spectator. Even though she had actively prepared various supplies, renovated the house, and even intended to pursue Yan Mo, her mentality had not completely changed.
Yan Mo was the first person who made her feel that this world was real and connected her to this world. However, the sense of crisis brought by the two men who came to her today made her feel very clearly that this world was real and not just a book.
She lives vividly in this world, experiencing pain, getting injured, bleeding, and dying, and facing the cruelty and challenges of the end of the world. It is not enough to have Yan Mo's protection and sufficient supplies, she also needs strong strength of her own to truly survive in the end of the world.
Shu Xin's understanding of the apocalypse all comes from novels, movies or TV dramas. She is not like the heroine Ye Yu'an in the original book who was reborn from the apocalypse and has personal experience of the viciousness and cruelty of human nature in the apocalypse. She also does not have Ye Yu'an's deadly skills that she has acquired through struggling in the apocalypse.
All she could do was to complete every training session seriously, make herself stronger little by little, try not to hold Yan Mo and the others back, and not let herself become a burden.
Yan Mo and his group returned to the community safely. Zhang Song and his group paid 10% of the supplies as agreed, then took the things and left quickly, avoiding everyone's inquiring gazes.
Seeing Zhang Song and his friends return safely, the other onlookers became restless. Thinking that Yan Mo and Xiang Wen were good at talking, they rushed forward to borrow the rubber boat from Yan Mo and his friends and immediately surrounded the two of them.
More than five hours had passed since they left the house. Yan Mo was a little worried about the situation at home and didn't want to stay outside any longer. The noisy voices also made him feel disturbed. He drew out the Tang sword on his back, and the noisy crowd instantly became silent.
The cold light reflected on the blade, and the people who surrounded Yan Mo and wanted to borrow the rubber boat were frightened and scattered, leaving a large open space. They stared at the long knife in Yan Mo's hand with fear, fearing that the knife would be swung down if they said one more word.
I watched helplessly as Yan Mo and Xiangwen collected the rubber boat and went upstairs with the supplies they had bought from the supermarket.
Shuxin should be taking a nap at this time. She put her things casually on the floor when she came in. Yan Mo didn't bother to tidy himself up. He strode upstairs, just wanting to personally confirm that Shuxin was still there.
