Chapter 1 Falling into the River

"Help, help..." The voice of a girl struggling in the river became smaller and smaller.

I saw a man on the shore jump into the water and swim towards the girl who was about to drown. When he got to the girl, he dragged her and swam towards the shore. But before they reached the shore, several women came to the river and saw this scene.

"Isn't that Accountant Zhao's eldest daughter?"

"Why did you jump into the river?"

"Who is that young man?"

Someone recognized the young man who saved the girl and exclaimed in surprise, "Isn't that the kid from the landlord's family?"

The man dragged the girl to the shore, but the girl had already choked and passed out.

"Is this dead?"

Soon the women gathered around and looked at her clothes wet by the river water, revealing her graceful figure.

The man immediately tried to rescue her, pressing water towards the girl's chest several times. The girl was choked awake by the water, looked at the blue sky and white clouds, and fainted again.

The riverside was so lively, but no one noticed a pair of vicious eyes not far away. He looked at the scene with satisfaction, the corners of his lips slightly raised, and he said, "Zhao Jiaojiao, can you live a good life in this life?" He turned and left.

"Where's the accountant's wife?"

"I'll go call the accountant's wife."

"This Jiaojiao was touched by a man."

The man glanced at the girl on the ground, and without stopping, strode away.

If Accountant Zhao had not helped him back then, he would definitely not have gotten involved in this matter today.

"The landlord's son ran away?"

"This is because I don't want to marry Jiaojiao..."

"A good girl was touched by a man. How can she get married in the future?"

These women are all gossipy people in the village who love to talk about other people's family affairs.

It wouldn't take half a day before the gossip that Zhao Jiaojiao had jumped into the river to commit suicide and was rescued by the landlord's son, and that the landlord's son was unwilling to marry Zhao Jiaojiao spread to every corner of the village.

Accountant Zhao's wife and Accountant Zhao, as the women were calling them, arrived quickly. Seeing their daughter lying unconscious on the ground, they rushed over and knelt on the ground. The accountant's wife reached out her hand tremblingly to test her breathing.

"Still alive." These few words made the couple breathe a sigh of relief.

The women nearby started talking at once, "Jiaojiao was so upset that she jumped into the river."

Accountant Zhao helped his daughter up, carried her on his back, and quickly walked towards the only doctor in the village.

"Jiaojiao jumped into the river because she was upset with that man?"

"Who knows?"

"You're already such a grown-up, and you don't even leave work."

"Only Accountant Zhao and his wife can raise a daughter that big."

Accountant Zhao and his wife came to the doctor's house.

"Big Tiger, Big Tiger..."

Doctor Zhao's nickname was Dahu.

There are too many people with the same surname in the same village, and Zhao is a common surname.

"Third brother, what happened to my niece?"

Doctor Zhao looked at his niece who was unconscious and wet. She must have fallen into the river. Although it was already May, the river water was still a little cold.

He immediately felt Zhao Jiaojiao's pulse and said, "She choked on water. I'm afraid she might have a fever..."

Taking the medicine, Accountant Zhao carried his daughter back and asked his wife to change her clothes.

"What's going on?" Accountant Zhao and his wife both doted on their daughter. Now that this had happened, they were afraid that the whole village would know about it before tomorrow.

Wang Meili, the accountant's wife, said with a frown, "How could I know what happened? Jiaojiao usually washes clothes and sweeps the floor at home. How could she fall into the river today?"
