Chapter 66 Lanterns
Li Zheng's life had been pretty regular these days. The hot pot restaurant was back on track, and she didn't have to run the other shops anymore, so she could completely let go. She'd also visited Madam Cheng, Madam Yang, and Madam Wan, and things had been going smoothly until the Lunar New Year. The Lantern Festival was held there that evening, and there was no curfew, so she could hang out all night. She was looking forward to going out that night, after all, she hadn't been out at night in all her time here!
That evening, Li Zheng changed into her newly made clothes, finally feeling the urge to go shopping and dress up. Even Bao Ge'er was excited; he had never been out at night in his life. Seeing how excited they were, Gu Chengze felt a little annoyed that he had never taken them out to play.
After they were ready, they took Ayue, Xiaozi, Duhai, and Baofu and prepared to go out. Walking along the road, there were lanterns all along the way, very bright. This is what a scene of thousands of lights should be like. Gu Chengze looked at the girl next to him with a curious look on his face. The dim light shone on her face, making her look even more soft and attractive. He reached out and quietly held her hand.
Feeling her hand being held, she glanced back at him, her expression revealing nothing. On the night of the Lantern Festival, lovers walked together without regard for others; it was the annual day of commitment. Looking at their hands, hidden by their sleeves, she thought to herself, "This isn't an affair, why are they being so cautious?"
The two completely ignored Bao Ge'er who was following behind them. Bao Ge'er looked at the two holding hands and complained silently, "Oh, I don't care." Bao Fu looked at the young master and then at the young lady in front of him, thinking that the young lady should restrain herself a little. He didn't expect that the young master's expression was distorted with jealousy.
Seeing that the two of them were still reluctant to let go, Baoger glanced at the lantern stall next to them, rushed over and grabbed Li Zheng's hand, "Sister, I want to guess lantern riddles!" Li Zheng immediately let go of Gu Chengze's hand when she heard that, and said to Baoger, "Okay." Little did she know that Baoger was secretly making a face at Gu Chengze behind her back, as if to say to Gu Chengze, see, sister still cares about herself the most.
Seeing Bao Ge'er's smug look, Gu Chengze knew that the boy had started again, but he didn't bother to argue with him. After all, she was the one who accompanied him in the end, so it was okay to let him go for a while. Bao Fu saw his young master acting like a child again, and he apologized to Gu Chengze and hurried to catch up.
When we got to the stall, we asked, "How much are these lanterns for?"
"Some cost ten cents each, some cost twenty cents each, and some cost thirty cents each. But we also have free ones. You can take a look and see which one you want, young lady?" This vendor knew how to do business and even divided the items into different levels so that he could take care of the most people.
When Bao Geer heard that it was free, he became interested. "Boss, how do we do this without spending any money?"
"Of course, you have to guess the lantern riddles for free, but you can only guess one. I'm a small business, so I can't make too many."
"Okay, then I'll guess." Bao Ge'er's eyes were eager to try. "Then, sir, which one do you want?"
"I want the rabbit one." The rabbit one wasn't as delicate, but it was cute and had a unique rustic charm. The vendor took down the rabbit lantern and took out the riddle from it and handed it to Bao Ge'er, "Sir, here, if you guessed it right, this lantern is yours."
Bao Ge'er opened the lantern riddle and found it wasn't too difficult. He answered it after a moment's thought, which shocked Li Zheng even more than the vendor. She had thought that if she couldn't answer it, she would just buy it, but she didn't expect it to be so... She knew Bao Ge'er had a talent for studying, but she had never known about his academic performance because he never worried her. When she asked him if he had finished his homework, he usually said it was. After a while, she stopped asking. Gu Chengze was probably the one who knew the most.
Seeing her somewhat shocked, Gu Chengze stepped forward to explain, "Bao Ge'er is a good student, and this riddle isn't too difficult." Even without further explanation, she could tell. She walked over and glanced at the other riddles, feeling a headache. Really, guessing riddles wasn't very friendly to someone like her from the future.
Bao Ge'er took the lantern with a look of excitement, and gave it to Li Zheng, saying that his sister was the most important and that he would give everything to her. Li Zheng was very touched. She thought it was worth raising him. It would have been better if he hadn't made faces at Gu Chengze.
They walked and stopped along the way, and before they knew it, Gu Chengze handed her a lantern. Li Zheng saw that it had a plum blossom pattern and asked, "When did you make it?"
"Just now." You didn't say this when you saw Brother Bao watching people playing with crickets, otherwise he would seem petty.
She looked at the lantern and thought it was beautiful, so she casually asked, "Did you buy it?"
"No, I guessed." He paused and said, "What's mine is yours too." Li Zheng laughed when he heard it, and didn't know why he was jealous of Bao Ge'er. He also took out a mask from his arms and handed it to him, "Hey, this is what I bought for you."
Gu Chengze saw it was a monster mask, red, green, and black, not very pretty. He thought, shouldn't it be a sachet at this time? Then he remembered that her needlework seemed not very good, and it might poke her hand. He pursed his lips and looked down at her, "You put it on me."
"You..." She wanted to say he was an old man and didn't know how to wear it, but seeing his gentle gaze on her, she couldn't say anything. Feeling a little embarrassed, she quickly raised her hand to put it on him. He looked at her slightly red face and thought that she liked this set, liked his gentle side. He looked cunning and thought that he would have to use it more in the future. Li Zheng tied the rope and put the mask on the left side, thinking that it looked like something out of an anime. Hmm, it was pretty good.
Seeing Baoger still watching people playing with crickets, Gu Chengze gestured for Ayue and the other four to stay and watch Baoger, while he took Li Zheng away. "Aren't you going to wait for Baoger?" She was a little worried to see Baoger left there alone. "Don't worry, Guard Yang and the others are also there." He was relieved to hear so many people were there, but he didn't know if Baoger would be angry.
He didn't drag her far, just to the riverside, watching people release lanterns. "Hey, are you here just to watch people release lanterns?" Is that so boring? "Well, then let's release a lantern?" Hearing this, Li Zheng rolled her eyes at him, went to the lantern store, bought two lanterns, and gave him one. Li Zheng didn't believe these and just put them in. But Gu Chengze didn't know what he was mumbling.
After he finished speaking, she was curious since this guy didn't look like he believed in this, so she asked, "What did you wish for?"
