Chapter 13: Delivering Meals

As soon as she entered the house, Lin was about to go to the fields to deliver food. Li Yan hurriedly took over: "Mom, take a rest first, I'll take it over!"

Mrs. Lin looked at them and said, "Why are you back so late? I was about to ask your father to look for you!"

Li Yan took out a few buns and handed them to her mother: "Eat first, mom. I'll come back and tell you later."

He turned back to Daya and said, "Sister, please take care of the things I bought. I'll be back soon." After giving her instructions, he picked up the food basket and the oil-paper bag and headed for the field.

Along the way, Li Yan met many villagers, some carrying grain, some pulling ox carts, and she kept greeting them. Everyone was walking in a hurry and full of energy!

When the little cousin finally saw his sister coming, he immediately dropped the grain in his hand and ran over like a gust of wind, fearing that he would miss something if he was too late.

Li Yan quickly said: "I bought you meat buns!" The little cousin blushed with excitement when he heard that there were meat buns to eat.

The two came to the open space, and Li Yan took out the meat buns. The buns were already cold at this time, but the child ate them with relish. While eating, he kept shouting that they were so delicious!

At this time, Grandma Wu also came to Li Yan's side: "Where did you get the money? You bought all these buns, you little girl, this is too much!"

Li Yan said, "I helped Mom sell some embroidery this morning. Thinking about how hard everyone has been working lately, I bought some for everyone to try."

Wu scolded: "I think you are a spendthrift, and your mother lets you do whatever you want. How come I didn't realize you were so stubborn before!" She was about to scold him again.

Old Man Li coughed and said, "This is a gift from the child. Let's all eat it!" He then said to Li Yan, "Don't spend money like this next time!" Li Yan nodded in agreement.

The aunt picked up the buns and ate them with a smile on her face, not complaining at all. After all, it wasn't her money that was being spent, so she didn't feel bad!

The excitement here attracted Erzhu's wife in the field next door. She had been paying attention to the movement here. Seeing that the whole family was eating buns, she couldn't help but say sarcastically: "You still think you are rich. The more you go by, the more you look back!"

Her son Gou Wa saw his friends eating steamed buns and couldn't help but said, "Mom, I want to eat steamed buns too!"

Erzhu's wife couldn't help but scold: "You shallow-eyed thing, what are you eating buns for!"

Crying and yelling could be heard from the side. Old Man Li said, "Erya, get one for that kid!"

Mrs. Wu immediately glared at him, "You're the sucker! I won't give you anything! Let them make a fuss! Aren't you ashamed?" She then looked at everyone and said, "Hurry up and eat! We have to go to the threshing ground this afternoon!"

After dinner, Li Yan cleaned up the dishes and took her cousin home. As soon as she entered the house, she saw Daya worrying about a basin of pig offal. Seeing Erya come back, she hurriedly asked what to do with it. Li Yan said, "Big sister, please prepare some wood ash for me first. I will need it later!"

Li Yan washed the dishes and went to her mother's room and told her how she made money today. Mrs. Lin looked at her ten-year-old daughter in surprise, and couldn't understand how her previously introverted daughter could become so bold?

Li Yan explained: "Mom, I was in a coma a few days ago! I dreamed of a lot of delicious food and fun things, so I wanted to try and see if I could make money. We will need money for so many things in the future!" After that, she took out three taels of silver and the remaining money and handed them to Lin.

After hearing her daughter's words, Mrs. Lin felt both sad and afraid. She warned, "Don't tell anyone about this except me. I'll explain it to your father tonight. Take this money for now. I'll keep it for you when you make some money!"

Li Yan took the money and stopped refusing.
