Li Yan shook her head, thought for a moment, and replied, "Auntie, how about I buy your sweet potatoes at one cent per pound?"
After hearing this, Aunt Chen's eyes lit up with excitement. One liter of brown rice was only twelve cents, and a few sweet potatoes from her own garden could be exchanged for one liter of brown rice. Aunt Chen could hardly believe her ears.
Li Yan: "Aunt, if you trust me, you can keep these sweet potatoes at home. When my uncle comes to look for me, he will definitely buy them from you!"
Chen's wife was persuaded by Li Yan, and she went home carrying goods on her shoulders as if she was carrying cotton.
Chun Ya brought Li Yan back home and looked curiously at this older sister with whom she had been for a few days.
Li Yan caught Chun Ya stealing glances at her from time to time and asked with a smile: "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Chun Ya was caught by Li Yan, so she quickly lowered her head and busied herself wiping the stove.
Li Yan touched Chun Ya's head and said encouragingly, "What do you want to say, Chun Ya?"
Chun Ya raised her head and asked curiously, "Sister, do you really want to buy this sweet potato?"
Li Yan: "Yes, seeing how well these sweet potatoes are growing, I want to bring some back to my hometown!"
Chun Ya nodded in understanding.
After the two of them finished cooking dinner, Grandma Zhang, with the help of the villagers, brought back all the sweet potatoes from that day.
After cleaning up, several people sat in the yard and prepared to eat.
Mrs. Zhang: "Today, thanks to Miss Li's help, if it were just me, an old woman, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to finish it before dark!"
"What are you talking about, grandma? I've been staying here for the past few days and I've been doing some work. Isn't that what I should do?" Then she asked, "Have you dug up all the sweet potatoes in the field?"
Mrs. Zhang took a sip of porridge and replied, "I'll just have to work for another day tomorrow!"
As the two were talking, Chen's wife came over to the group who were eating with a bowl of side dishes.
Mrs. Chen said, "Are you eating now? I came at the perfect time. Here are some new dishes I made. I'll give them to you to try."
Seeing this, Mrs. Zhang stood up and took out an empty bowl from the kitchen and poured the side dishes that Mrs. Chen had brought into the bowl: "Thank you very much!"
Aunt Chen waved her hand and suddenly sat down next to Li Yan: "Miss Li, I've discussed what you said with my parents-in-law, and they are very willing!"
Li Yan sipped her porridge and said, "That's great! It saves me from having to ask other people!"
When Chen's wife heard Li Yan agree to her like this, she was so happy that she couldn't help but smile.
Having put her worries to rest, Mrs. Chen stood up and said with a happy face: "Then I won't disturb you from eating. I'll go back first!" After that, she hurried away.
After they left, Li Yan saw Granny Zhang looking at her in shock and had no choice but to explain, "Granny, if you want to sell sweet potatoes, sell them to me! I'll buy them from you at a penny per pound, okay? The yield of this thing is so high, I want to take some back to my hometown too!"
After listening to Li Yan's explanation, Grandma Zhang said, "Your idea is good, but you should still ask the elders in your family about the price! I'm afraid your uncle will blame you for making the decision on your own!"
Li Yan: "Don't worry, Grandma. Since my uncle can take me on such a long journey, he must trust me!"
Mrs. Zhang shook her head helplessly. In her opinion, how could the words of a girl in her teens be counted? The matter had to wait until her uncle came to make a decision.
The next day, the villagers were still busy harvesting sweet potatoes, but those who had finished harvesting the sweet potatoes earlier carried their goods to the town to sell, but no one was interested.
