Chapter 226 Baked Sweet Potatoes

The two returned home, and Chun Ya found the iron rod that Li Yan needed.

Li Yan picked up some extra bricks from the corner of the wall that were used to build the house, and the two of them piled all the prepared things in the middle of the yard.

Chun Ya asked curiously: "Sister, what are we going to do?"

Li Yan was busy with her work while introducing it to Chun Ya: "I'm making a baking oven!"

"Oven?" Chun Ya asked in confusion.

Li Yan: "Yes, the oven. When it's ready, I'll use it to make you some roasted sweet potatoes. They'll be delicious!"

Upon hearing this, Chun Ya worked even harder to help Li Yan build the so-called oven.

Li Yan built the stove body with earthen bricks, creating a square shape. There's an opening at the top for placing sweet potatoes. Iron rods are placed on either side of the opening to secure the potatoes. Several more iron rods are placed directly below the stove to prevent burning wood from falling.

After everything was finished, Li Yan tried to roast sweet potatoes.

Chun Ya has been busy following Li Yan, staring at the roasted sweet potatoes in the oven, afraid that she will not pay attention to the heat and roast the sweet potatoes!

About half an hour later, Li Yan tried to take out a cooked sweet potato from the oven and put it in front of Chun Ya.

When the little girl saw the roasted sweet potatoes, she couldn't wait to take them.

Li Yan quickly stopped the little girl's reckless behavior: "Don't use your hands, it's too hot!"

Chun Ya immediately withdrew her hand upon hearing this.

Li Yan got up and went to the kitchen, and took a bowl and a wooden spoon from the kitchen cupboard.

Li Yan put the roasted sweet potato into a bowl, peeled the skin of the sweet potato, handed the bowl to Chun Ya and warned: "Try it, be careful of the heat."

Chun Ya had been itching to eat the sweet potato after smelling its fragrance. She ignored Li Yan's instructions and took a big bite. She screamed in pain from the heat, but she was reluctant to spit out the food in her mouth!

Looking at Chun Ya who looked very satisfied while eating, Li Yan asked: "How is it? Is it delicious?"

Chun Ya, who was eating roasted sweet potatoes, didn't bother to speak and just nodded repeatedly.

At this time, Mrs. Zhang, who had been busy outside for most of the day, also returned home. Looking at the peculiarly shaped stove in the yard, she walked forward to check it out curiously.

Li Yan saw Granny Zhang and immediately stood up and greeted her, "Granny, I've thought of a way to make money with sweet potatoes!" Then she took a roasted sweet potato from the oven, put it in a bowl, and handed it to Granny Zhang, "Granny, try it, is it okay?"

Granny Zhang tore open the soft roasted sweet potato skin, and the golden flesh exuded a rich fragrance. Granny Zhang took a careful bite, and the sweet taste spread in her mouth. She nodded involuntarily; "It's delicious!"

Li Yan looked at the satisfied Granny Zhang and told her her plan: "Granny, these roasted sweet potatoes are so fragrant. Let's go to the pier at the edge of town and set up a stall to sell roasted sweet potatoes. There are a lot of coolies working there, and they will definitely come to buy them when they smell the aroma!"

Grandma Zhang was moved by what Li Yan said. This might be a good idea.

Li Yan looked at Grandma Zhang who was already tempted and continued, "As for this business, I think it's better for the clan leader to step in. First of all, every household in the village has sweet potatoes. If everyone sees that Grandma's business is good, they will follow suit and end up competing maliciously, making the originally harmonious relationship between the villagers become irreconcilable. That's not good!" She originally wanted to improve everyone's lives. If it was because of the competition for profit among the villagers, this was not her original intention.

Granny Zhang nodded repeatedly after hearing Li Yan's suggestion. "I'm an old woman with a little granddaughter. I usually rely on the help of the villagers for the heavy work of carrying water. I can't let everyone become enemies just for such a small profit. Miss, you're thoughtful. Let's do it this way! Then please come with me to the clan leader's house!"
