Chapter 33 Meeting

Li Yan did not go in to disturb them. She turned around and went to find Old Man Li, thinking that it would be the same to tell Old Man Li about this first.

Li Yan saw her grandfather staring at fifty taels of silver in the room. When she heard her little granddaughter calling her, she came to her senses and hurriedly put away the silver and money on the table.

Li Yan said, "Master, I have good news for you. Piaoxianglou in town is planning to buy food from our village."

Mr. Li was stunned at first, then he patted Li Yan's shoulder excitedly: "Really?"

Li Yan said, "Really? Buy our grain based on last year's price. But with so many families in our village, I guess we can only buy a portion!"

Old Man Li said, "Okay, okay, it's always good to share some of the burden. I'll go to the clan leader's house and tell them. I can discuss this with them."

Old man Li stood up and ran out in a panic. His little cousin came over to call him to eat but was knocked down by his grandfather who was rushing out.

Old man Li quickly picked up his grandson, brushed the dust off him and scolded him, "You're not doing anything right all day long. You don't even walk properly."

Maomao suddenly felt aggrieved, pouting and about to cry, but Mr. Li ran away.

Li Yan hurried forward to comfort the little guy, took out the oil paper bag from her arms, and handed it to the little guy: "Look, this is the snack that your second sister brought you."

The little guy was ready to cry at the top of his lungs, but was frightened by Li Yan's action. He happily took the oil-paper bag from his second sister's hand and skipped to the main room.

Li Yan followed him to the main hall. Wu had already laid out the food. Seeing Li Yan coming over, but not following behind, Old Man Li asked in confusion, "Where's your grandfather?"

Li Yan said, "We just went to the clan leader's house to discuss something. Let's eat first."

Just as he was about to start eating, he saw Old Man Li, Chief Li, and several elders from the clan rushing over.

The others felt awkward when they saw the Li family members about to eat. Just as they were about to go back, Old Man Li asked his wife to get a few more pairs of chopsticks and said to them, "You guys have been busy all day and haven't eaten yet. Have a few bites here!"

The few of them were indeed hungry. They had been outside asking about the situation all day and had not eaten yet.

The simple porridge with pickles made everyone feel refreshed.

After the meal, Clan Leader Li asked Li Yan about the situation, and Li Yan repeated what she had discussed with Shopkeeper Qian.

Patriarch Li said, "I think everyone has heard this. What I mean is that those of us who can afford the tax money should not participate and give way to those who are particularly difficult."

No one objected. Uncle Youcai said, "Everyone is having a hard time. Who wouldn't want to participate?"

Li Yan said, "Then let's call a meeting tomorrow and have everyone vote to decide."

Patriarch Li nodded and said, "That's decided." Everyone agreed to leave the Li family.

After washing up, Li Yan returned to her room and realized that she had forgotten to tell her mother about making money today.

Forget it, I won’t say anything more. I’m already an eye-catcher now.

The next day, just after breakfast, the sound of gongs rang out and the villagers went to the chief's house.

Li Yan followed Li Erlang to the clan leader's house. Clan leader Li, still standing on the boulder, faced the crowd, "I have a buyer here who is willing to buy our village's grain at the same price as in previous years. However, his demand is small, so our village can only give quotas to the most needy households."

When the crowd heard the news, they immediately went wild and expressed their desire to have a spot.
