Grandpa Li brought Daya and Maomao, and Li Yan led her aunt, and the five of them set out into the city to watch the lantern festival.
There must be a lot of people in the city watching the lantern festival today. Mr. Li was worried that the city was too crowded and the donkey carts were not allowed to enter, so the group of five had to walk to the city.
When the five people arrived at the city gate, the line to enter the city was already very long. Mr. Li had no choice but to lead a few people to stand obediently at the end of the line to queue up to enter the city.
Coincidentally, the person in front of them was Tietou, whom they hadn't seen for a long time. Tietou was lying on his father's shoulder and saw Li Yan and Maomao behind him. He happily got off his father's shoulder and greeted them.
After not seeing each other for a while, Tietou had obviously grown taller and fatter. The little guy happily ran to Li Yan and asked joyfully, "Sister, are you guys here to see the lanterns too? Can I join you?"
Li Yan pinched Tietou's cheek, which had become much fatter, and agreed happily.
Tietou happily moved closer to his little friend Maomao, and the two kids put their heads together and chattered about the lantern festival they longed for.
Zhou Dalang saw his son happily chatting with his friends, and it was not easy to take him away by force, so he had to follow Li Jia silently.
Zhou Dalang was also very surprised when he saw Li Xiaomei. Now that his son has joined the Li family's team, he has a reason to watch the lantern show with the person he likes.
About half a quarter of an hour later, the group finally entered the city. Although it was dark at this time, the city was brightly lit by lanterns.
At this time, the streets in the city were bustling with people coming and going. People brought their elderly and children, called their friends, and gathered in the city to enjoy the lantern festival.
Lanterns of various shapes are hung in front of the shops on both sides of the street. The lit lanterns sway gently in the cold wind, making the entire Rongcheng look like a dream.
The lanterns strung across the streets form a sea of lights. They come in various shapes, some are traditional red lanterns, some are revolving lanterns, some are dragon lanterns, rabbit lanterns, lotus lanterns, and various auspicious patterns, casting warm light over people's heads.
As the breeze blows, the lanterns sway gently, reflecting people's smiling faces.
There were constant shouts from the small stalls along the street, selling rouge, powder, clay figurines, food, and everything in between, making the scene very lively.
Li Yan saw a lot of people gathered around a lantern, and immediately led her family to watch. There were many kinds of lanterns here, and the stall owner said that if anyone could guess the riddle under the lantern, they could get it for free.
Li Yan was so curious that she wanted to try it out. She picked up a rabbit lantern and saw the words "A bell grows on the water. Shake it but it makes no sound. Look closely and you'll see a face full of big eyes." Li Yan smiled and said to the stall owner, "Is this a lotus seed pod?"
The stall owner happily took off the rabbit lantern and gave it to Li Yan: "Miss, you guessed right, it is a lotus seed pod. This rabbit lantern is yours!"
Li Yan happily took the rabbit lantern and gave it to Maomao who had been longing for it. Maomao took the rabbit lantern and gave it to Tietou who was standing next to him: "This is for you!"
Seeing Tietou standing there in a daze, Maomao stuffed the rabbit lantern in his hand into Tietou's hand and said, "This is for you first!"
Tietou took the rabbit lantern in surprise and asked uncertainly, "Are you really giving it to me?"
Maomao nodded. "My second sister said good friends should share with each other. Since you are my good friend, I'll give this to you first. I'll let my second sister win another one later!"
Li Yan patted her cousin's head with satisfaction and said, "As a reward, you can pick one of those lanterns!"
Maomao happily pointed at a small golden pig lantern and said, "Second sister, I want that one!"
Li Yan looked in the direction of her cousin's finger, and saw a chubby and adorable little golden pig, squinting its eyes and smiling foolishly at her. It looked really cute.
Li Yan went forward and picked up the red stick under the light. She saw that it said "It looks like a boat, with two angled corners, bones outside and meat inside."
What a coincidence! Both of these are aquatic plants, and Li Yan happened to know them both. Li Yan smiled and said to the stall owner, "But what about water chestnuts?"
The stall owner quickly took the little golden pig and handed it to Li Yan: "You are really good, girl, you guessed it right! This lantern is yours!"
Maomao happily took the little golden pig. Both children got lanterns and gathered together, chattering non-stop.
But Li Yan was not as lucky as before. She looked at several numbers but failed to guess correctly.
Mr. Li didn't want to waste time here, so he said to Li Yan generously: "Whichever one you like, I'll buy it for you!"
Li Yan pointed at a lotus lantern and said to Grandpa Li, "Grandpa, I saw that Daya was staring at that lotus lantern for a long time. Grandpa, buy one for her!"
Upon hearing this, Daya refused repeatedly. She just looked at the lantern twice more and was seen by her sharp-eyed sister, who quickly waved her hand to refuse.
Grandpa Li looked at his little granddaughter winking at him, and without hesitation he paid for the two lanterns.
Li Yan didn't want one at first, but she felt even more awkward if Daya didn't want one, so she simply picked a lantern and carried it in her hand.
