Chapter 518 Saturation

The next day, Li Yan got up early and followed Mr. Li in a mule cart to Yaokou Village.

The further north you go, the thinner the green vegetation becomes, and the desolate soil is exposed. When the wind blows, the fine soil is blown so hard that people can't open their eyes.

After a bumpy journey, the two of them traveled for a whole morning and finally arrived at Yaokou Village.

The mule cart stopped at Yaokou Village. The village was full of small, short yellow mud houses. In contrast, Li Yan could hear the laughter of children playing and having fun while standing at the entrance of the village.

It somehow added a bit of popularity to this poor little village!

The two got off the car at the village entrance and led the mule cart into the village. Suddenly, Li Yan heard a cry of surprise.

"Grandma, it turns out to be the sister who bought our ginger in town that day!" the little boy said in surprise.

Li Yan looked in the direction of the voice and saw an old man and a young boy carrying large bamboo baskets on their backs. The firewood in the baskets was piled so high that it seemed to bend the young boy's back.

Li Yan recognized the little boy, whose cheeks were flushed and who was obviously struggling to carry dozens of kilograms of firewood.

She led her grandfather to drive the mule cart to the two of them and said, "Grandma, it's really heavy to carry so much firewood. Why don't you put it on our mule cart first? I'll take you back!"

Mrs. Zhao looked at her grandson, whose face was flushed and breathing heavily, and she felt sorry for his hard work.

I am old now and unable to do many chores, so my grandson carries most of the firewood on his back, even though I am only a child over ten years old.

"Then I'll trouble you, girl. Our house is just in front."

Then the two of them followed Mrs. Zhao back home.

To thank the two, Mrs. Zhao warmly invited them to go home and sit down and have a drink of water.

Li Yan originally wanted to ask them about making clay pots, so she did not refuse and walked into this unremarkable farmyard.

Although the yard is small, it is tidy and clean, and there are many jars and pots in the corner.

Old Mr. Chen, who was staying at home, heard the noise in the yard and limped out of the house.

Shuanzi saw Old Man Chen and said happily, "Sir, this is the kind-hearted man who bought our ginger and bamboo shoots last time!"

Upon hearing this, Mr. Chen warmly invited the two into the house.

Li Yan, however, turned her gaze towards the clay pot in the yard: "Grandpa, does your family also make clay pots?"

Shuanzi puffed out his chest proudly: "My grandfather is the best clay pot maker in our village!"

Old Master Chen waved his hand with a somewhat dejected look on his face: "Every household in our village can make it. If the girl likes it, pick two and take them back!"

Li Yan looked at Mr. Chen's expression and asked doubtfully, "Grandpa Chen, if you have the skill to make clay pots, why?"

Li Yan did not say the next words, but everyone present understood the meaning of Li Yan's question.

_______

Since he has such skills, why is his family so poor that they can't even afford to buy extra food?

Mrs. Zhao sighed, "Miss, you don't know. Rongcheng is so small, and these earthenware jars are of very good quality. They generally last for three to five years without breaking. Gradually, their sales have decreased!"

Li Yan understood the meaning instantly. The market is so small and the demand is limited. Once there is oversupply, it becomes a buyer's market. There are at least fifty or sixty households in this village. Once the market becomes saturated, it is common for products to not be sold.

At this time, Shuanzi brought two bowls of water: "Sister, drink some water!"

Li Yan looked into the boy's sincere and bright eyes, and suddenly felt a little nervous. He took the water from the boy and thanked him.

They grew up on this barren land and had no choice. After finally acquiring a skill to support their family, they were confined to this small world.

Li Yan once again confirmed her choice. She would do her best to improve the lives of the villagers in the north!
