Chapter 71 Storytelling

After returning from Li Xiu's home, Li Yan started to pack her bags.

I took out the seeds I bought from the grocery store and asked my grandmother to help me plant them tomorrow. She had already plowed the backyard, so I had to plant the vegetables quickly.

After packing up the seeds, Li Yan got up to wash up. She needed to rest early today and recharge her energy, as she had to go to the town to tell stories to Miss Zheng tomorrow!

After a dreamless night, Li Yan got up early.

I'm going to town with my dad today.

She put the dumplings that she hadn't finished eating yesterday into the pan and fried them. The aroma of the hot oil immediately spread in the air.

When Li Yan finished frying the dumplings, the aroma spread all the way to the next door, and Maomao was clamoring in the yard to come over here.

Li Yan served the fried dumplings and brought them to the next room. When the uncle saw Li Yan bringing the dumplings over, his face turned red with embarrassment and he glared at his youngest son with a fierce look.

The little guy was holding porridge and jumped for joy when he saw Li Yan coming. Fortunately, Daya was quick-eyed and quick-handed and almost prevented the porridge in the bowl from being spilled.

The little cousin asked with his mouth watering: "What is this delicious food, second sister? Why does it smell so good?"

Li Yan put the fried dumplings on the table: "This is called fried dumplings, fried in hot oil!"

The big golden dumplings made Maomao drool.

Li Yan jokingly took one for the little guy.

Maomao couldn't wait to take a bite and exclaimed, "This big dumpling is so delicious! It's even more fragrant than yesterday's!"

Everyone smelled the aroma of the fried dumplings and couldn't help but taste them. They were indeed crispier than yesterday's.

Li Yan just happened to ask Wu to help her plant the vegetables in the backyard today.

Mrs. Wu waved her hand and told Li Yan not to worry. Even if Li Yan didn't say it, she was planning to plant vegetables in the second son's backyard in the next two days.

Li Yan returned home and told Mrs. Lin that her grandmother would come over to help grow vegetables.

After quickly finishing breakfast, the father and daughter went to the town together. When they arrived in the town, Li Erlang was worried about his daughter, so he accompanied Li Yan to the gate of the county government office and left only after seeing Li Yan go in.

Li Yan was welcomed in through the side door and followed the maid into Zheng Hui's room.

When Zheng Hui saw Li Yan coming, she couldn't wait to greet her and pulled Li Yan to sit down at the table.

He ordered the little maidservant beside him to prepare some cakes and snacks, and urged Li Yan to start telling a story.

Li Yan thought about it and realized that it was obviously inappropriate to talk about a romantic palace novel, so she told Zheng Hui about Journey to the West, one of China's four great classics.

The story continued until the moment when Sun Wukong was pinned down by the Buddha under the Five Finger Mountain. When the little girl came up to serve the meal, Li Yan hurriedly drank a cup of water and took a deep breath. "Let's talk about this next time. I really can't continue!"

Zheng Hui was in high spirits and was about to get angry when she was suddenly interrupted, but after hearing what Li Yan said, she felt it was not good to force her, so she had to arrange for Li Yan to have dinner first and rest for a while.

The maids came in one after another as if relieved and brought up delicious dishes. Zheng Hui picked up the chopsticks with little interest and invited Li Yan to eat with her.

Li Yan was really hungry at this time, so she started eating without hesitation.

Zheng Hui didn't have much of an appetite at first, but seeing Li Yan eating so happily, she started eating too.

She saw that although Li Yan ate eagerly, her eating manners were not ugly, and her attitude towards her was respectful but not flattering.

Zheng Hui couldn't help but carefully examine the girl in front of her, who was younger than herself. Seeing that she didn't seem timid in front of her, she asked curiously, "Where did you hear these stories?"

Li Yan was suddenly speechless and had to explain as usual that she had seen it in a book.

Zheng Hui couldn't help but be curious: "Where is this book from? What's it called? Why haven't I read it before?"

Speaking of books, Li Yan's eyes lit up and she quickly changed the subject: "How about I write this story down and give it to you?"

Zheng Hui couldn't help but be delighted when she heard her say that. That's right, why hadn't she thought of that? Instead of waiting for her to tell her stories every day, it would be better to write them down so she could read them anytime.
