At dawn the next day, Lin Feng woke up Dayong and Monkey, and Dayong, in a daze, followed them out the door.
Zhou Xun, who heard the noise, also came out.
Lin Feng said to Monkey, "I'm going to Yuecheng and will try to be back in the afternoon. You and Tiezhu should take care of the goods in the backyard!"
Monkey asked sleepily, "What is Brother Feng doing in Yuecheng?"
Lin Feng briefly introduced Dayong's situation to Monkey. Monkey patted his chest and assured him, "Brother Feng, just go ahead and leave it to me!"
When Zhou Xun heard Lin Feng's words, he hurried forward and said, "I want to help too!"
Lin Feng wanted to refuse, but when he saw Dayong's uneasy look, he finally didn't refuse.
Ever since Dayong gave his straw raincoat to Zhou Xun, the brotherhood between the two has visibly warmed up along the way.
Lin Feng led the carriage out of the inn, and the two of them sat on the shaft.
Li Yan woke up from the bumpy ride, opened the car curtain, and what came into her sight was the street scenes on both sides of the road.
Lin Feng drove the carriage to a bun shop, got off and bought a few buns. When he turned around, he found that Li Yan had woken up.
He handed the bun in his hand to Li Yan: "You're awake, eat some buns to fill your stomach!"
Li Yan said with some embarrassment: "But I haven't washed up yet!"
Lin Feng said helplessly: "Then wait until there is a stream two miles outside the city gate. I will stop there to wash you!"
After saying that, he got on the carriage swiftly and urged the horses to gallop away.
After walking for about a cup of tea, they found a clear stream. Lin Feng stopped the carriage and urged Li Yan to wash up quickly.
After Li Yan finished washing up, she got on the carriage and saw Dayong with a blank look in his eyes, not knowing what he was thinking.
Lin Feng continued to urge the horse on. Li Yan nudged Dayong and said, "What are you thinking about? You didn't even respond when I called you!"
Dayong came back to his senses and explained: "I was wondering if I could see my sister today. I wanted to see her, but I was also afraid to see her!"
Dayong said to himself: "I have been thinking about my sister all the time these days, but I am afraid to see her. I am afraid that she will be so sad when she knows that her parents are gone!"
Li Yan patted Dayong's shoulder comfortingly. This feeling of being homesick is inherently contradictory.
At noon, Lin Feng drove into Yuecheng.
Li Yan asked Dayong, "What's your brother-in-law's last name? Does he run a grocery store in this city?"
Dayong: "My brother-in-law is Ye San. My parents said he opened a shop in Yuezhou City!"
Li Yan got off the carriage and went to a stall selling crispy cakes. She spent ten cents to buy a few cakes. After picking up the food, Li Yan smiled and asked, "Auntie, is there a grocery store called Ye Sankai in this city?"
The woman selling pancakes looked at Li Yan and said, "Miss, your accent doesn't sound like a local. What do you want to see Shopkeeper Ye for?"
Li Yan didn't expect it would be so easy to find out who it was. She quickly pulled Dayong from the carriage and said to the middle-aged woman, "Aunt, we are here to look for our relatives. Look at this young man next to me. He is the younger brother of Mrs. Ye, the shopkeeper."
The middle-aged woman looked at Dayong when she heard this. It's true, this child looks a bit like the shopkeeper's wife.
The woman then said enthusiastically, "So it's the owner's wife who's here. Just keep going along this road. When you reach the fork in the road, turn right and you'll see the Ye family sign."
Li Yan thanked the woman and returned to the car with Dayong.
