Chapter 257 The Xu Family Wants Stability

"Ningning, what are you thinking about?" Xu Yuan couldn't help asking when he saw Xu Ning staring at the underground river in a daze while fetching water.

"I wonder where this dark river leads to."

"It leads to the sea, where else can it lead to?!" Xu Yuan was surprised. Xu Ning immediately covered his head and laughed, "Aunt Yuan, you are right, I am crazy, haha"

…

Soon, the cave was filled with the sweet smell of fish.

Old Lady Xu scooped a bowlful for the children and Old Man Xu, setting it aside to cool. Then she filled a large bowl each for Xu Da and Feng Lun, who had been working the hardest lately. There was so much fish that even Chuyi got a full bowl, so delighted that his tail swayed like a propeller.

The fish had a rich flavor, and Xu Da had swallowed countless times.

So Zhang brought him a big bowl of fish soup, and Xu Da couldn't wait to pick up a piece of fish, blew on it, and put it into his mouth.

"Mom! This black fish is so delicious!" Xu Da exclaimed while eating, and did not forget to scoop a spoonful of fish soup with a spoon, blew on it, and handed it to his wife's mouth.

Old Lady Xu smiled and said, "It's delicious. Eat more. There's plenty of fish."

"Mom, this black fish is so delicious! Just sprinkle some salt and pepper into the fish soup, and the soup is so delicious that it's amazing!" Zhang had never eaten black fish before, but she couldn't help but sigh after taking a sip of the fish soup handed to her by Xu Da.

Feng Lun rarely agreed, "Yes, it's so delicious!" He took another sip of the fish soup and closed his eyes to savor it carefully.

The others drank their fish soup in silence. Xu Feng and Xu Ning, for example, ate without even looking up. Blackfish had few bones, so the two of them, as if competing, devoured nearly the entire fish. They sighed with satisfaction as they ate, as if forgetting all their worries.

Seeing them wolfing down their food, Old Lady Xu's mood brightened. She smiled and said to them, "Eat slowly, don't choke."

Xu Feng and Xu Ning slowed down their eating speed after hearing this, but they still finished their bowl of fish soup quickly. Old Lady Xu poured them a second bowl and sat aside to watch them eat.

At this moment, Old Lady Xu's gaze fell on the water curtain outside the cave entrance, and she couldn't help but feel a surge of emotion. She thought, how wonderful it would be if she could settle down sooner! She didn't seek great wealth, just a stable life, free from the hassles of wandering around and living in fear.

Father Xu noticed that Mrs. Xu was suddenly in a bad mood. He put down his bowl of fish soup and took Mrs. Xu in his arms. "Don't worry, we'll be able to settle down soon."

Old Mrs. Xu sighed and said, "I just wonder when will this kind of life end?"

Father Xu comforted him, "It will be soon. When the rain stops, we can find a place to settle down and live our lives properly."

Xu Feng and Xu Ning put down their chopsticks. Xu Da and his wife looked at each other, feeling a little uncomfortable. After all the twists and turns along the way, they also hoped to live a stable life as soon as possible.

Feng Lun drank the fish soup silently without any other movement. Xu An looked at his parents and his younger brothers and sisters, knowing that his grandmother was feeling sad again.

Xu An was the oldest of the children, so naturally he knew more. In the past, when his grandfather, Old Man Xu, was still relatively healthy, he had mentioned to him that their grandmother, Old Lady Xu, was the daughter of a wealthy family.

He thought that grandma might be missing home.

"Mom, look outside, has the rain become much lighter?" Xu Yuan pointed to the water curtain at the entrance of the cave. When Old Lady Xu heard her say that, she concentrated her attention and observed it carefully. She was surprised to find that the water flow was indeed smaller than before.

"It's really gotten smaller!" Old Mrs. Xu couldn't help but exclaimed in surprise. Others also gathered around to check, and they all agreed that the rain was indeed much smaller.

This good news made everyone excited and relaxed. After all, the rain seemed to be finally showing signs of abating.

For the next four days, the rain remained at this level—neither heavy nor light, but it never stopped. While the rain didn't stop completely, it at least gave hope to the Xu family trapped there.

As the rain gradually subsided, Xu Da took Feng Lun out several times in the past few days and almost figured out the surrounding terrain.

When the weather began to improve, Xu Ning took advantage of Xu Da taking Feng Lun out to quietly release the drone and carefully record the nearby terrain.

The large ship docked at the shore became slightly tilted under the impact of the waves, looking like a drunkard lying on the shore.

There was a hole in the hull, and the Xu family knew nothing about repairing a ship, so it seemed they could no longer rely on this big ship for travel.

Some of the cattle and sheep originally on the ship were gone, some because they fell into the sea and drowned, and the rest ran to the shore and scattered everywhere.

However, only a small number of people went ashore. There were about fifty cattle and sheep on the boat, but they were all starving and skinny, like deflated balls.

After discussing with his family, Xu Ning decided to bring the cattle and sheep back to the mountain. As for the large ship, Xu Ning planned to store it in the space and repair it later when he had time.

"Grandma, this deserted island is connected to the mainland. After crossing a few mountains, we can continue to go north." Xu Ning said to his grandmother excitedly.

She held the footage captured by the drone in her hand, with a glimmer of hope in her eyes.

It turned out that after Xu Ning's drone flew above the clouds, he not only captured the connection between the deserted island and the mainland, but also unexpectedly discovered a basin behind the canyon. This basin was flat and lush with aquatic plants, like a paradise bestowed by nature. Although the heavy rains of the past few days had caused the stream running through it to flow rapidly, other areas seemed to be largely unaffected.
