Patrolling the Territory (Edit)
Elena wrote a letter to her superior lord, Earl of Barnett, requesting to inherit the title of Viscount.
The messenger left the town of Fussen with Elena's letter.
No one dared to covet her position as viscount anymore. Elena finally felt like going to the kitchen again. She wanted to cook a delicious meal to reward herself.
Two bottles of the seasoning sauce that I had instructed the chef to make were ready to be opened. After Elena tried them, she decided to make steak today.
Cooking steak is quite simple, and the chef’s skill in frying meat is pretty good. The key thing Elena needs to adjust is the sauce.
First make a black pepper sauce.
Black pepper, onion, garlic, starch, olive oil, salt, and sugar are all available in the kitchen, but the salt and sugar still need Elena to purify them.
The salt and sugar currently used in the kitchen are both very rough raw products. They are not salty or sweet enough, and contain many impurities. They are usually given to high-ranking servants, such as butlers, butler assistants, and male and female servants.
As for the salt that the owners eat, it is purified through secondary filtration, but there are still a small amount of impurities. The sugar is better, and natural honey is used. This is a rare sweet delicacy.
But when making the sauce, not to mention that the impurities in the salt will affect the taste, just talking about honey, it is too easy to stick to the pan and burn. It is better to use sugar. So Elena now has to carry out necessary purification of the salt and sugar, magical purification.
Next came the oyster sauce. Elena used fire magic to quickly process the oysters and other raw materials.
By the way, we also need some red wine, so Elena asked the butler to get a bottle of red wine from the wine cellar.
With all the ingredients ready, the black pepper sauce was quickly prepared. The rich aroma wafting from the kitchen made the cooks and handymen waiting outside swallow their saliva continuously.
After the black pepper sauce was made, Elena instructed the chef to make mushroom sauce.
The ingredients for mushroom juice are all available in the kitchen, but the kitchen is still at the simplest stage of cooking mushrooms, directly making soup and mushroom sauce. The kitchen has never thought of any other methods.
Elena followed the instructions from the cooking aid book that popped up in her mind to instruct the chef to stir-fry and cook the mushrooms.
The mushroom gravy is ready in no time.
The chef looked at the mushroom sauce he had made with a look of doubt on his face.
Is this the mushroom sauce he made?
Mushrooms are so fragrant when cooked this way!
He is indeed not a good cook and doesn't know as much as Miss Elena.
With black pepper sauce and mushroom sauce, the steak Elena wanted was served quickly. The aroma was so fragrant that she wanted to eat it just by smelling it.
As Elena picked up the silver fork and knife, a figure appeared at the dining table.
"It smells so good, can I have one?" Leonard looked at the steak with shining eyes.
Elena: ...Are you okay?
Leonard took out his wallet, rummaged through it, and pinched out a silver coin: "Is that okay?"
He had eaten at many high-end restaurants, and although they were always treated by others, he also knew the prices. This steak was better than all the expensive steaks he had ever eaten, so he thought it was okay to give an average price, well, the average price, not the highest price.
Leonard cunningly tested Elena's attitude.
Elena: "...Okay."
He was actually willing to give her a silver coin? Did he think her steak was worth a silver coin? Ha, ha, ha, it seems her steak was even more delicious and popular than she thought.
Leonard chose the more fragrant black pepper steak, which was as big as two adult palms. He finished it in just a few bites.
Leonard scraped some of the remaining black pepper juice from the plate with a fork and put it into his mouth, savoring it slowly.
Elena frowned as she looked at his big beard stained with black pepper juice.
"Your beard is dirty." Elena couldn't help but remind him.
Leonard looked down and with a flick of his finger, the water elements in the air quickly gathered and condensed into a water droplet the size of an apple. The water droplet rolled across his beard, and his beard became clean again.
"You can also do magic? Are you a magic swordsman?" Elena looked at the unkempt Leonard again.
Leonard's gaze shifted to the steak with mushroom sauce in front of Elena: "You know some basic magic. Is your steak delicious?"
Elena nodded her chin towards the chef who was waiting by the wall, and the chef immediately went back to fry the steak.
Elena continued to cut and eat the steak slowly.
Leonard continued to scrape and lick the black pepper juice to deceive his unsatisfied stomach.
Leonard didn't have to wait too long before the chef came in with freshly fried steak in mushroom sauce.
Leonard looked at the new steak with sparkling eyes: "Wow, it smells so good."
Leonard quickly cut off a small piece of steak with his knife and fork and put it into his mouth: "Wow, wow, it tastes completely different from before."
He cut another piece and stuffed his mouth full. Leonard put down his knife and fork and took out his purse: "Here, here you go." Another silver coin.
Elena didn't accept the silver coin, but asked him seriously: "Do you think I can make money by opening a restaurant?"
Leonard chewed his steak in big mouthfuls and swallowed it. Then he said, "Where do you want to open it? If it's in Book Harbor, I guarantee it will make money."
Buck Harbour is the seat of the Earl of Barnet's Earldom and the political and economic center of the Earldom.
"What if it's opened in the town of Fussen?" Elena was a little unconvinced.
Leonard took a big sip of Langer wine brewed by the brewery in Fussen Town and said, "Do you think there is anyone richer than you in your territory?"
Elena pursed her lips.
"Rich people are the bottom line. There are indeed more rich people in Book Harbor than in your town of Fussen, and much more." Leonard cut another piece of steak and put it in his mouth.
Elena took Leonard's words to heart, so she decided to inspect her territory first and take a good look at what it looked like.
At least you should know whether your territory is rich or poor. If it is poor, you should also know how poor it is.
The first thing to do when traveling is to prepare transportation.
The old butler suggested taking a carriage because it was best for a lady to ride in a carriage, but Elena wanted to ride a horse. In the end, Elena, the owner, won this little argument.
When Elena rode away from the town of Fussen, she was very glad about her decision.
Although the town of Fussen is small and not prosperous enough, fortunately the ground is paved with cobblestones. Once you leave the city gate of Fussen, the road outside becomes a dirt road.
The roads around Fussen are slightly better, they are compacted dirt roads. A little further away, they are semi-natural dirt roads with potholes mixed with mud and stones.
Elena controlled the reins to make the horse trot, and looked back. Not far behind her was a thin layer of dust floating, covering the knights behind her.
Fortunately, she is the future female duke and the protected master, otherwise she would not be able to run ahead and would have to fall behind and eat dust.
Elena once again felt that her transmigrated identity was not bad.
The sound of horse hooves rang out on the country road. After passing a bend along the mountain, a small village appeared in front of Elena.
"Where is that?" Elena turned and asked the acting captain of the knight team behind her. The original captain had died heroically in the battle protecting Viscount Elro and Master Joyce. In that battle with the pack of magic wolves, most of the knights of the Viscount's Mansion were killed or wounded. The only ones who still retained their combat effectiveness were the few knights who stayed in the castle at that time. They all came today to protect the only owner of the Viscount's Mansion.
The acting captain steed his horse forward and said, "That's Abang Village, the knight's territory led by Captain Malen."
Maren is the former captain of the knights who died in battle. As a knight, he has his own territory, which is usually a village. If he has made great contributions, the lord he is loyal to will give him another village.
Elena nodded: "Let's go and take a look."
The team headed towards Abang Village.
The country roads are always winding. They look close but are actually far away. Although Abang Village is right in front of us, Elena's team is taking a detour through the woods.
"What kind of crappy road is this? Why does it have to be so winding? Can't we just take the main road to Abang Village?" Elena couldn't help but complain. Although her skills were all maxed out, her body wasn't good enough. She was still essentially a delicate lady.
My legs will be sore and my skin will hurt.
Elena cast a recovery spell on herself again.
"This is a special arrangement to resist invasion. The woods are a good barrier, which can give the village more time to organize resistance and retreat." The acting captain explained.
Elena glanced at the acting captain and asked, "What's your name?"
The acting captain's face suddenly burst into an unconcealable joy: "My name is Neil."
Elena nodded.
Neil took a deep breath to calm the joy in his heart, and chopped the branches in front of him more carefully, cutting out a wider path for his lord.
A long moo of a cow came from the distance.
Neil frowned and said, "You guys stay on guard here, I'll go take a look." Then he walked towards the source of the sound.
Walking to the front, Neil saw five big cows and two calves, as well as a boy about sixteen or seventeen years old dressed as a cowherd, who was trying hard to pick up a calf.
"Who are you?" Neil asked directly.
The young man was frightened by the loud shout and shivered. He looked up and saw that the person coming was a knight in full armor. He quickly put down the calf and knelt on the ground to answer as expected.
"Your Excellency, I am a cattle-herder from Abang Village, and I am herding cattle."
"Herding cattle? Why were you holding the calf just now?" Neil asked.
"The calf's leg is injured and it can't walk. I want to carry it back." The boy lowered his head even more.
"You are a cowherd who takes care of cattle. How could you let a calf get injured while you were herding cattle? Damn lazy idiot!" Neil also has a village of his own. He knows the value of cattle very well, and he knows how easy it is for an injured calf to die. If this young man was not a cowherd from Abang Village, but a cowherd from his own village, he would have hit him with his whip long ago.
The sound of horse hooves came from behind.
"What's going on?" Elena's voice rang out.
Neil quickly suppressed the anger on his face, turned around and replied respectfully: "This is the cattle herder from Abang Village. He was herding cattle and a calf was injured."
The Mavericks are injured!
The knights, who also owned a village, looked at the cowherd with condemnation and anger in their eyes.
The cowherd trembled under the angry gazes of the crowd.
