"You're here!" Qi Heng turned the steak over with difficulty, and then saw Cong Rui standing at the door.
Cong Rui came back to her senses, smiled at him, walked over and hugged him, "Why did you think of cooking?"
"I'm happy. When I'm happy, I want to cook for you."
"What are you so happy about?"
Qi Heng didn't say anything, but smiled mysteriously, put his arm around her, and then pushed her out of the kitchen. "Go out, there's all this fumes here, and your clothes will get dirty."
"It's okay." Cong Rui turned around and hugged his waist from behind, "Let me hold you for a while, you do it, I'll watch you do it."
"Okay." Qi Heng took Cong Rui's hand under his apron to cover it. "Be careful, don't get burned by the oil."
"Um."
The two of them cooked the meal like conjoined twins. The steak was burnt, the pasta was lumpy, and the vegetables and fruits were cut into pieces of different sizes in a mess.
However, Qi Heng still arranged the dishes very seriously, with such seriousness that if you didn't know him, you would think he was performing surgery.
Cong Rui took a picture of this scene and also took a few pictures of the prepared dinner.
Bang!
The sound of the red wine glasses clinking together was very pleasant. The two of them clinked their glasses together in a very ritualistic manner and took a sip of the red wine first.
"Try it quickly." Putting down the wine glass, Qi Heng waited expectantly for Cong Rui to taste the steak he fried.
Cong Rui cut a small piece, put it in her mouth, chewed it carefully, and savored it slowly, much more seriously than she had just drunk the red wine. Under Qi Heng's expectant gaze, she smiled and said, "It's delicious."
Qi Heng's face was full of smiles, and he couldn't wait to taste it.
“…”
Qi Heng thought it was unpalatable, but Cong Rui said it was delicious. Seeing Cong Rui carefully eating the meal she made bite by bite, Qi Heng thought the meal seemed okay.
After finishing the last bite of steak, Cong Rui put down her knife and fork and finally told Qi Heng the good news that he had been waiting for all night.
"The signing date has been set. It's next Monday morning."
"Really?!" Qi Heng pretended to have just found out and raised his glass to celebrate with her happily, "Congratulations! You can finally fulfill your dream!"
Cong Rui didn't raise her glass, but just looked at Qi Heng.
"What's wrong?"
"Qi Heng, let's break up."
Qi Heng's expression froze. He slowly put down his wine glass, looked at her, and said nothing.
The room was so quiet that one felt a heavy pressure, as if the air had frozen at this moment, making it impossible to breathe.
Cong Rui felt uncomfortable, she stood up and wanted to leave.
"Why?" Qi Heng's voice was a little hoarse. His tone was light, but one could hear the forbearance in it.
There were no lights on in the house. Only the candlesticks lit on the dining table by Qi Heng to create a romantic atmosphere were flickering. Cong Rui did not turn around, so Qi Heng could not see her expression.
"I'm about to debut, and no fans will like a newcomer who's in a relationship."
"The company asked you to break up?" Although he knew it was impossible, Qi Heng still wanted to find a reason for Cong Rui.
"No, I wanted to divide it myself."
Qi Heng closed his eyes, feeling the sting of a knife finally falling. He said anxiously, "Can't we just break up? We can have a secret relationship. If we're careful, we won't be discovered. Even if we are discovered, we can still deny it."
After a moment of silence, Cong Rui slowly spoke, her tone filled with helplessness, "Qi Heng, I'm twenty-seven years old."
I'm twenty-seven, so I don't have that much time to waste and I don't have that many opportunities to take risks.
"Thank you, this meal is delicious."
Cong Rui turned and glanced at Qi Heng again. She couldn't see clearly, but she felt that Qi Heng looked very fragile, which made her feel a little pain in her heart. She secretly took a deep breath and turned to walk to the door. Qi Heng stood up and followed her, and in his panic, he knocked over his wine glass.
With a bang, the wine glass fell to the ground, and the red wine mixed with glass shards splattered everywhere.
Cong Rui didn't look back. She quickly walked to the door, picked up her bag and opened it. Just as she was holding the door handle, she heard Qi Heng ask her from behind, "If you didn't have this opportunity, would you break up with me?"
"There aren't so many ifs." Cong Rui opened the door and left, leaving behind a single sentence as the door closed: "No."
Qi Heng stood in the darkness, looked at the door handle and smiled, a desolate feeling of having to bear the consequences of his own actions flashed through his heart.
Cong Rui fled in panic. She thought she could break up without a care in the world, but she obviously overestimated herself. But she didn't lie to him. If she didn't have this opportunity, at least Cong Rui would not break up with him now. She loved him.
It can even be said that Cong Rui has never thought about breaking up with Qi Heng. Qi Heng is really a good guy. He has a clean and handsome appearance, a lively and cheerful personality, a good family background, and she is also an excellent student of medicine. He has a bright future that is obvious to the naked eye.
She herself was just an ordinary undergraduate who worked as a resident singer in a bar and didn't have much of a future. Although she didn't feel inferior, she still felt lucky to have met Qi Heng.
And most importantly, she never felt she had a chance.
She knows herself well, and she knows that unless she pays some price, she will not have any chance, but she just can't stop. She just wants to break through and try, until she can't break through or try anymore, then she may stop.
Now it seems that she has finally made it. She has finally won the jackpot, so she must be in the best condition to receive the prize and throw away everything on her that may affect her, no matter how precious that thing is.
She loves herself more than her lover.
She would not say sorry to Qi Heng, because she did not think she had done anything wrong, she was just pursuing her own dream. She was just grateful for everything Qi Heng had brought her.
