After coming out of Gu Lingfeng's house, Zhao Si stood on the side of the road in a daze. In such a big world, he felt like he had nowhere to go.
In order to avoid starving the cat, Zhao Si took Dudu's cat food with him when he left. He had no nest to sleep in and no cat litter to poop in, but he really didn't know what to do without cat food.
He has no money.
Holding Dudu and carrying cat food, Zhao Si came to the vicinity of Yanshan Park based on his memory of giving Dudu an IV. This was the place he was most familiar with besides Gu Lingfeng's house. He planned to rest here first before thinking about the next thing.
Unfortunately, the bench where he used to sleep was already occupied. A skinny old man was lying on it. The old man was thin and dirty, and looked like he had not had a good life. Zhao Si felt embarrassed to snatch the bench from the old man.
Zhao Si carried Dudu out of the park again and walked forward aimlessly from morning to afternoon. He stopped only when the surrounding roads became narrower and narrower and the tall buildings became fewer and fewer.
"We're almost out of the city." Zhao Si thought.
"Young man, come in and have a bowl of noodles?" Zhao Si was standing at the door of a noodle shop, and an old lady called him from inside.
Zhao Si was really hungry. Although he had eaten a lot for breakfast, he had already consumed it after walking all day. He even stole some cat food to eat when feeding Dudu at noon.
"Auntie, can I work in exchange for a bowl of noodles?" Zhao Si smiled awkwardly and asked embarrassedly.
The old lady was stunned for a moment, "Hey, come in quickly, I'll ask the old man to make you a big bowl!"
"Thank you, Auntie!" Zhao Si didn't expect that the Auntie would actually agree, and he thanked the old lady respectfully.
"It's okay, come and sit here." The old lady warmly invited Zhao Si in and shouted to the kitchen: "Old man! A bowl of beef noodles! Add more noodles!"
"Okay!" came the old man's loud answer from inside.
The noodles were quickly cooked, and the old man himself brought them to Zhao Si. A large bowl of hot, wide noodles was sprinkled with green onions, and several large pieces of fragrant beef were spread on top, tempting Zhao Si. Zhao Si thanked him, picked up his chopsticks, and wolfed down two mouthfuls of noodles, then picked up another piece of beef.
The beef noodles here taste very different from the ones at Lanzhou Ramen, but they are both delicious.
Zhao Si was eating very happily. Dudu smelled the food and kept meowing in his arms. Grandma and Grandpa hid in the kitchen and watched them secretly with loving eyes.
The old lady and the old man are already in their sixties, but they are in good health. Their children and grandchildren are not around them often, so they can't sit idle and opened this noodle shop.
Zhao Si was young, good-looking, clean and well-mannered, so he was very popular with the old man and his wife. The old lady even secretly told the old man about the boy who had no money and wanted to work to earn food.
Looking at Zhao Si's wolfing down of his food, the two of them felt that Zhao Si was a poor little thing. After imagining about it, they couldn't contain their pity for him.
The old man watched for a while, and seeing that Zhao Si was eating so deliciously, he cooked another big bowl, this time adding even more meat.
"Uncle, one bowl is enough for me." Zhao Si felt embarrassed and pushed the bowl away.
"It's okay, kid, eat it. If you cook too much and don't eat it, you can just throw it away." The old man looked at him with a smile, and the love in his eyes turned into reality.
"Okay, thank you, uncle!" Zhao Si thought so too. The food has been cooked and there are no other customers now. It would be a waste not to eat it. He will just help with the work later.
Zhao Si ate the big bowl of noodles happily, drinking up all the soup without leaving any. He burped contentedly and stood up to put away the bowl and chopsticks.
"Uncle, Auntie, where is the place to wash the dishes?"
"Oh, put it down quickly. You don't need to wash the dishes. I'll do it." The old lady said as she grabbed the bowl.
"It's okay, Auntie. We just agreed to work in exchange for noodles. After I eat the noodles, I will definitely do the work." The kitchen was not big, and Zhao Si saw the sink at a glance. When he was at Gu Lingfeng's house, he cooked his own lunch and dinner, and he was very familiar with the gas stove and sink.
There were about ten large bowls in the sink, which should have been washed by grandma and grandpa. Zhao Si found a dishcloth, squeezed some detergent on it and started washing and scrubbing.
Seeing that he had already got it, the old lady didn't fight with him for it, and she liked the boy even more.
After washing the dishes, Zhao Si wiped the stove until it was shiny. Being strong and tall, he managed to clean off many of the old grease stains. Then he went outside to wipe the table and mop the floor twice.
Doing housework is very common for Zhao Si. When he was in the mountains, his fellow disciples had to cook and do housework, and they also had to go to the fields to grow vegetables and crops. Some of the more skillful disciples could even sew clothes and mend shoes. The clothes they usually wore were made by these disciples.
Of course, we can't let the brothers work for nothing. Those who don't know how to make clothes do more heavy work, and they take care of each other to make a living.
Zhao Si was busy working, and the old man and the old woman didn't know where to stand. It seemed that they felt they were in the way wherever they stood.
"Auntie, uncle, I've done all the work I can do. Is there anything else you want me to do?"
The old lady and the old man looked at the bright lobby and then at the neat and clean kitchen, and were so satisfied that they were speechless.
"No more, no more. Oh, young man, you are so capable!" The old lady smiled so hard that her eyes narrowed, and she was so satisfied that she almost clapped Zhao Si's hands.
The old man was also very satisfied. He nodded as he looked at the noodles. These two bowls of noodles were really worth the money!
Seeing that they didn't seem to be pretending, Zhao Si picked up his bag and held Dudu in his arms, ready to leave.
"Young man, don't you have anywhere to go?" The old lady asked when she saw that he was carrying luggage and pets with him and had no money.
