hall
Old Li squatted down and looked at the two large bundles of sweet potato vines that Murong Yu had brought over. He looked at them from the left and right, and even touched them, but he still couldn't recognize what they were.
Old Man Li had been working in the fields with his family since he was a few years old, toiling in the soil his entire life. Farmers are particular about their food, and seeing that he couldn't recognize it, he was filled with anxiety. Finally, unable to contain himself any longer, he respectfully asked Mu Qing, "Young Master, what is this? Is it edible?"
Seeing his expression, Mu Qing couldn't help but laugh and said, "Grandpa Li, Brother Dashan has already taken the food to the kitchen. You'll be able to eat it tonight."
Old Li exclaimed with delight, "You can really eat? Great, great!"
“The old man won’t eat it, but the young master and the guests will. The old man will grow some for the master and the young master to eat later.”
Mu Qing: "I'll have to trouble you, sir."
Old Man Li: "No trouble at all, it's good to have land to farm, it's good."
After chatting for a while, Li Dashan brought in the food. Mu Qing and Murong Yu's bowls were filled with noodles, each topped with three golden-fried eggs, and a large plate of stir-fried cured pork with dried radish. It tasted like home-style farm cooking, with a unique flavor.
Seeing that there were only two bowls, Mu Qing said, "What about yours? Bring them over and eat with us."
Li Dashan scratched his head and said in a simple and honest way, "Mother said we'll eat in the kitchen and keep an eye on the food in the stove, the one the young master brought. The aroma is already coming out. It's being simmered in the stove with the embers. Mother said she'll bring it over after the young master finishes his noodles, which will be just in time."
Hearing the aroma of the new food wafting out, Old Man Li stood up and said impatiently, "Let's go take a look." He then walked excitedly towards the kitchen, as if something was chasing him.
Mu Qing: "..."
Murong Yu: "..."
Seeing this, Li Dashan said somewhat embarrassedly, "That's just how my father is; crops are his life."
Mu Qing smiled and shook her head: "It's alright."
Li Dashan: "Then I'll go to the kitchen. Young master, young master, please enjoy your meal. Just let me know if you need anything."
Mu Qing: "Wait a minute."
Mu Qing stopped him, took two fried eggs from her bowl and put them on the plate of cured meat. She picked up two slices of meat for herself, put a quarter of the plate of meat in Murong Yu's bowl, and then handed the plate to Li Dashan: "Take these to the kitchen. We can't eat this much. Don't waste it."
Li Dashan hesitated for a moment: "This..."
Mu Qing: "Go ahead, just say it was my idea."
Li Dashan: "Okay," he said, then took the plate and turned to leave.
Mu Qing scooped most of the noodles from her bowl into Murong Yu's bowl, and then said, "Ayu, can you eat some for me?"
Murong Yu looked at him with a doting expression: "Okay."
After finishing his noodles, Old Man Li brought a roasted sweet potato into the hall: "Young Master, does this thing have a name? It smells really good."
"This is a sweet potato," Mu Qing said, taking two out of the bowl and handing one to Murong Yu. Seeing that he accepted it, she said, "Peel off the skin and eat the flesh inside. Try it."
Turning to Old Man Li, who was staring expectantly, he said, "Take these and divide them up. Eating too much at night will make it hard to digest. Peel off the skin and eat the flesh inside."
Old Man Li said, "Very well, thank you for your generous gift, young master." He then left happily.
As Mu Qing watched Murong Yu carefully peeling the sweet potato, lost in thought about planting, a peeled sweet potato was offered to him.
Murong Yu: "Aqing, eat."
Mu Qing stared blankly at the sweet potato at her lips, a ripple of emotion stirring within her.
Murong Yu: "Eat it, it's not good if it gets cold."
Mu Qing reached out and took it, taking small bites. A gentle, faint smile graced his face. The sweet potato in his mouth was soft, sweet, and fragrant—the best-tasting sweet potato he had ever eaten.
