Chapter 28 A Letter from the Mu Family

At the dinner table, Mu Qing saw their son, Zhang Huaien. He had always been weak and took medicine for many years, so his face looked a little pale, but his eyes were very clear.

At the dinner table, the family of three quietly ate sweet potatoes, cherishing them like devout believers enjoying a gift. The old lady was a kind-hearted person, constantly putting cured meat on Mu Qing's plate. Their cured meat tasted good, and unable to refuse her hospitality, Mu Qing ate quite a bit. The group chatted as they ate.

During the conversation, it was discovered that the flowers were grown by their son, who was genuinely happy that they could bring in some extra income for the family.

Mu Qing was moved as she looked at the loving family who supported each other.

For Mu Qing, establishing Fangcao Pavilion was merely a business venture, or perhaps a way to fulfill a wish from his past life. But for this family, it provided a tangible means of earning money, allowing them to have enough to eat. Moreover, because he was able to help the family, their son's overall energy and spirits improved significantly, and he took less medicine. They were truly grateful to Mu Qing.

Mu Qing learned that for ordinary farmers, the biggest fear is getting sick. When someone in the family gets sick, the money spent on medical treatment makes it difficult to even have enough to eat.

There are many people like the Zhang family in the impoverished village, which is what prompted Mu Qing to grow and sell common medicinal herbs.

Bai Mansion

Grandpa Bai looked at Mu Qing, who had grown quite a bit taller, with loving eyes and said, "Qing, the New Year is almost here." He then hesitated, as if he wanted to say something more.

Mu Qing: "Grandpa, just say what you want to say. Why are you being so polite with me?"

Old Master Bai coughed a little awkwardly and said, "I received a letter from the Mu family today, asking when you will go back for the New Year, and also about next year's spring hunt, which your father plans to take you with him."

Mu Qing was silent for a moment, then looked up and saw Grandpa Bai looking at him expectantly. He couldn't help but find it amusing and a little touched. He said slyly, "What do you think, Grandpa? I'll listen to whatever you say."

Seeing his quick wit, Grandpa Bai was pleased and stopped worrying. After all, it wasn't like they would never see each other again. Besides, he was healthier now, and even if Mu Qing didn't come to Jiangnan, he could go to the capital by himself. After thinking it through, he patted Mu Qing on the shoulder and said, "Of course, Grandpa wants you to stay for the New Year, but you've already stayed for a year. Logically, you should go back and spend the New Year with your family."

She paused and added, "It's alright, and there's no need to worry about Grandpa. Grandpa still has the Bai family, and it'll be very lively during the New Year. It won't be quiet at all."

Mu Qing thought for a moment and said, "I won't go back for the New Year this year. I'll stay here and spend the New Year with my grandfather. After the New Year, I'll go back to accompany my father to next year's spring hunt."

Upon hearing this, Old Master Bai was overjoyed, his smile widening. He laughed heartily, "Good, good, good! Then Grandpa will go and reply to them right away." With that, he went to his study, beaming with delight.

Mu Qing: "..."

Mu Qing thought for a moment and said to Butler Bai, "Grandpa Butler, I'm going out to buy some special New Year's goods from Jiangnan. When you see me later, please tell Grandpa that we shouldn't send the letter back to the Mu residence yet. Let me buy some things first."

Butler Bai: "Yes, young master, don't worry. I'll tell the master when I see him later."

Mu Qing: "Thank you, Grandpa Butler."

Butler Bai said with a look of satisfaction, "Good child."

Mu Qing turned to leave, but Butler Bai's voice came from behind him: "Young Master, do you have enough money? Do you want me to go to the storeroom and get you some more?"

Without turning his head, Mu Qing said, "Don't worry, Grandpa Steward, there's enough money. I'm leaving now." He walked out as he spoke and soon disappeared around the corner.
