Chapter 145 Encountering a Bear Attack

Chapter 145 Encountering a Bear Attack

The next morning, before dawn, Liu Ye carried a basket on her back, took a wood-chopping knife, and went up the mountain with Bai Zilin and the others. By the time they reached the depths of the mountains, it was already daylight.

Liu Ye was afraid of disturbing Bai Zilin and his group's hunt, so she walked at the very back. Before long, Bai Zilin and his group had each caught several pheasants and rabbits, which made her itch to hunt as well. She had to find a way to separate from them. Suddenly, she saw a small river in front of her. The river was covered with a thick layer of ice, and the water flowed down from the mountains. This place was good; it was the perfect excuse for her to separate from Brother Bai.

“Brother Bai, I won’t go in with you. I’ll wait for you by this stream. Come back to me when you’re done hunting.”

Bai Zilin didn't want to take her into the mountains for an adventure, so he agreed without hesitation: "Okay, don't wander off, just wait here for us to come back."

"knew."

After Bai Zilin and the others left, Liu Ye followed the direction of the stream and quickly headed into the deep mountains. Generally, there is prey where there is water. Sure enough, she hadn't gone far when she saw a large flock of pheasants in the low reeds by the river. There were twenty or thirty of them visible to the naked eye. With a quick wave of her hand, she put all the pheasants into her spatial storage.

She quickly went to the reeds, squatted down, and dug out a grassy nest. Inside each nest were a dozen or so wild eggs. The eggs were small, with green shells. She had guessed right. She took off the basket on her back and picked up the wild eggs. She walked and pulled at the grass as she went until she left the low reeds. She had collected about 100 wild eggs, filling a small half-basket. That was quite a lot; enough for them to eat for many days.

When she gets back to the river, she'll have to take out a few big fish from her spatial storage. There are still so many fish in there, almost none of them have been eaten. There are also quite a few crabs. She ate all the big ones, and there are still a lot of small ones left.

Half an hour later, "Hmph, hmph." "Wild boars!" Liu Ye quickly stopped walking. She listened intently to the sounds around her. The sounds seemed to be very close to her, right in front of her to the right. She mustered her courage and walked to the right, pushing aside the tangled branches in front of her. She saw three large wild boars rooting around in the grass in the snow.

The three wild boars also noticed the humans behind them. They turned around abruptly and charged towards Liu Ye. Liu Ye calmly waved her hand and put the three wild boars into her spatial storage.

"OK, at least she didn't come for nothing today."

She clapped her hands, and just as she was about to turn back to the stream, she smelled a foul, cold wind rushing towards her. Oh no, something was attacking her! Without turning around, she waved her hand behind her, and the foul, cold wind disappeared. She quickly turned around and saw several huge animal claws on the snow behind her, more than three times the size of her feet. Judging from their direction, they had suddenly rushed out of the woods.

Liu Ye patted her chest, still shaken. The footprints looked like bear tracks. She was really lucky to have encountered a bear as soon as she entered the mountains. She'd better hurry up and leave, or she might run into something else.

After walking for about half an hour, Liu Ye returned to the riverbank. She found a large rock and smashed ten holes in the deep part of the river. Then she took out five large fish from her spatial storage: two grass carp, three carp, and not the crabs, as taking out the crabs was a bit inappropriate.

Before Brother Bai and the others returned, she had to go into her space to check. She flashed into her space and saw a huge creature lying on the ground, which was a bear: "Holy crap, it really is a bear. This guy is huge. Even lying down, it looks like a small mountain. This guy must weigh more than 1,000 pounds. No wonder Brother Bai said bears are valuable."

She then looked at the three wild boars lying to the side. The wild boars had two long, sharp tusks in their mouths. If you got stabbed by one, you were done for. She decided not to take the wild boars out. Instead, she would take the bear out. Otherwise, if she got hurt by both the wild boars and the bear, Brother Bai would suspect her of being strange. She would take the wild boars out next time, and she would not take the pheasants for now.

She flashed out of the space and waved her hand toward the clearing by the stream. A bear appeared out of thin air. It wouldn't do if the bear wasn't injured. She took out a wood-chopping knife from the basket on her back and slashed the bear's neck twice. Bright red liquid flowed from the bear's neck and soon it was all over the ground, filling the air with the smell of blood.

"Won't the smell of blood attract wolves?" "Oh dear, the blood was drawn too early."

Just as Liu Ye was regretting that she had released the blood too early, Bai Zilin emerged from the woods. Upon seeing the enormous creature on the ground, he was so frightened that he dropped his prey and rushed to Liu Ye's side, calling out, "Liu Ye!"

Da Hu and the other two abandoned their prey and ran towards Liu Ye, all looking worried.

Bai Zilin checked Liu Ye over thoroughly and, finding no blood or injuries, finally breathed a sigh of relief: "Oh my god, thank goodness you're not hurt! You scared me to death!"

Liu Ye said carelessly, "Hehe, I heard that bear paws are especially delicious, let's save one bear paw to eat."

Bai Zilin -_-||: "You little rascal, alright, if you like them, we'll keep two for you."

Seeing that Liu Ye was alright, Da Hu, Xiao Long, and He Tao all patted their chests in relief. They were relieved that nothing had happened. They immediately looked at the bear. Da Hu patted the bear's massive body and said excitedly, "What a huge bear! This is the first time I've ever seen a bear. This bear is so big, we might have a hard time getting it down the mountain."

Bai Zilin turned to look at the bear: "The bear's fatal wound is in its neck. Did you cut it?"

Liu Ye nodded and said, "Yes, it suddenly rushed out of the woods, so I stabbed it twice. Oh, and I also caught a few fish over there. You can take the walnuts."

"Understood, boss."

Bai Zilin didn't doubt Liu Ye's words. He knew she was strong, even stronger than him, and quick-witted: "We can't take down the whole bear, but we can take it down if we break it apart. You all step aside, I'll skin the bear first."

Because the bear was so big, it took Bai Zilin an hour just to skin it. Then he gutted the bear, and Da Hu handed him the basket, saying, "There's a lot of good stuff inside the bear. Let's clean it out and eat it ourselves."

Bai Zilin took out the intestines and put them into his basket, filling it to the brim. Then, he began to butcher the bear meat. Da Hu, He Tao, and Xiao Long also joined in. The four of them worked together to cut the bear into four pieces, which were quite heavy, each weighing four or five hundred pounds.

Big Tiger, Walnut, and Little Dragon each carried a piece of bear meat, which was already their limit. Bai Zilin carried much more; he had a basket of entrails on his back, a piece of bear meat on his left shoulder, a deer on his right shoulder, and a dozen rabbits and pheasants hanging from his waist, yet he still walked ahead with ease. Liu Ye carried the rest; she had a basket on her back, a bear skin tucked under her left arm, five fish in her right hand, and a dozen rabbits and pheasants hanging from her waist, and she also followed Bai Zilin with ease.
