Chapter 26 There's Something in the Bed
Because of the heat, the fire quickly spread to an entire street, burning down all the houses on the street. Since the distance was relatively far, the house where Liu Ye and the others lived was unharmed, as were the streets in front and behind it. The street that caught fire seemed to be the one at the very front.
Almost everyone in town had left, and there was no one to help put out the fire. Of course, no one was likely to die from the fire. That evening, Liu Ye and Bai Zilin each ate an apple, and that was their dinner.
"Brother Bai, you can sleep inside tonight. I'll sleep in the car; it's cool outside."
Actually, it wasn't very cool outside either. There was a fire in front, which turned the sky red, and there was a strong smell of smoke in the air.
Bai Zilin laughed and joked, "You're quite cunning. I was hoping to sleep outside in the cooler air. Hehehe, it's not cool outside either. You stay in this room, and I'll go stay in another room. The smoke outside is too strong; smoking too much is bad for your health."
Liu Ye agreed, realizing she had just made a blunder. The courtyard they were staying in had quite a few houses, like a two-courtyard house, with a lot of rooms, though she didn't really understand the details: "Okay, then I'll go to my room to sleep. I've never stayed in such a nice house before, I need to experience it quickly."
Bai Zilin also stood up from the ground, leaning on his cane: "I'm a little tired today too, I'll go find a room to sleep."
Liu Ye entered the room, closed the door, kicked off her shoes, and lay down on the bed: "Ah, this is so comfortable. It's so comfortable to sleep in bed..."
Ever since she transmigrated into the body of the silly girl, she has never slept in a bed, let alone a kang (heated brick bed). She sat up from the bed and carefully looked around the room. The more she looked, the stranger the room seemed. It was clean and tidy, like a woman's room, but there was no dressing table.
If this were a man's room, how could it be so clean and spotless? The furnishings all looked brand new, and there was no smell of grease or dirt from a man on the bed, nor any long hair from a woman.
It seemed like no one had ever lived there, yet it also looked like someone had. She reached out and patted the bed frame. This bed was nice; the frame was quite thick and sturdy, and it looked brand new. When she left, she secretly put it into her spatial storage to save for when she bought a new home.
She's collected quite a few things in her space now. Oh right, she hasn't harvested the corn in her field yet. Thinking of this, she quickly got out of the field, locked the door, sat on the bed, and slipped into her space.
As soon as she entered the space, she saw a large pile of things on the floor, all of which she had just brought in. It looked quite messy. No, she had to tidy it up and put everything away properly. She wiped the sweat from her forehead and went to the black soil.
Two mu of corn is quite a lot. When will she be able to harvest it? If only the grain from the black soil could be harvested by herself after it ripens. Just as she finished thinking this, she saw a flash of golden light in the black soil. The corn cobs separated from the corn stalks and piled up at the edge of the field. The corn stalks also disappeared into the ground in an instant, becoming fertilizer for the black soil.
Then, a golden light flashed on the black soil, and the land expanded from the original two mu to four mu, doubling in size.
Liu Ye closed her surprised mouth. "Holy crap, so the black soil really does have this function. Doesn't this save her trouble?" She quickly went to get the seeds she bought yesterday and evenly scattered them at the edge of the field, scattering two small patches, one for rice and one for wheat.
She still had to plant corn on the remaining land. She looked at the corn pile at the edge of the field and saw that she had 5,000 jin of corn. The black soil was indeed a high-yield crop. The corn cobs were thicker than her legs. She didn't shred the corn kernels. She wondered if the black soil could automatically plant the seeds.
Just as she finished thinking that, a shower of corn kernels fell onto the black soil, automatically planting everything. "Hahaha, it really works! I love you, black soil!"
Overjoyed, Liu Ye skipped and jumped to pick a tomato. After eating it, she left the space. She got off the bed and slid open the door. In case bad guys came to the yard at night, Brother Bai's legs were not convenient, so she could run out faster.
She returned to the bed barefoot and pushed it with her hand, but the bed didn't budge. The bed was extremely heavy. "Hey, something's not right. How can a wooden bed be so heavy?"
She pushed the bed again with all her might, but it wouldn't budge. Something was wrong. She was very strong; there was no way she couldn't move a bed. There was something wrong with this bed. The outside was wood, but the inside seemed to be iron. But even if it was iron, that didn't make sense. She could move an iron bed. There seemed to be something inside this bed.
Liu Ye looked around the bed. What could be inside? She squatted down and crawled under the bed, only to find that there was a solid board underneath without a single gap. This was even more suspicious.
She tapped on the bed frame, which made a hollow sound, indicating that it was hollow inside. "Hmph, there really is something inside! If there's something hidden inside the bed, there must be a mechanism."
She crawled out from under the bed and took everything off the bed to the floor, revealing the bed frame, which turned out to be a large, smooth wooden board with nothing on it.
Liu Ye was puzzled. There were no mechanisms under the bed or on top of it. Wasn't this a big box? She looked around the bed but couldn't find any mechanisms. Did the person who hid the thing in the bed not intend to take it out?
"Very likely. Okay, then I'll unlock a mechanism for you." She immediately stood on the bed and stomped hard on the bed board. With a crisp crack, she stomped a big hole in the bed board, revealing glittering gold bricks inside, neatly stacked.
"Gold...!" () Oh my god, no wonder the bed was so heavy. She said there was something inside. She quickly sat on the bed and pulled out a gold brick. After she had pulled out all the exposed gold bricks, she couldn't reach the ones inside. So she stomped on the bed a couple more times and continued to pull out the gold bricks until she couldn't pull out anything else. Then she got off the bed, shook the bed a couple of times, and heard a crackling sound from inside the bed. It was something falling out of the wooden frame.
"Hmph, she knew it." Otherwise, the bed frame wouldn't be so heavy. She took out the last gold brick from the bed, and no matter how much she shook the bed, there was no sound. Only then did she put all the gold bricks into her space. Immediately afterwards, she also flashed into her space and couldn't wait to count the gold bricks.
"One, two, three, four, 800." Exactly 800 gold bars. The weight was written on each bar: 4 jin (approximately 2 kg). There was also a line of small characters on it, which she didn't recognize. Whatever they wrote, she could just leave it as is. She could cut the gold into individual pieces and still spend it; if she melted it down, nothing would be visible. Now she was done for. (ω) Hey!
"Haha, she's finally experiencing what it feels like to become rich overnight." However, she can't keep all those gold bricks to herself. When Brother Bai needs them, she'll definitely be generous and lend him a hundred or two taels to build a house and get married... ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
