Chapter 11 The Lu Family's Elegance
When the Jiang family was exiled, they didn't bring many jewelry with them, only banknotes, all of which were large in value. It was only after they came here that they slowly exchanged the banknotes.
So the Jiang family just lost their status, but they actually don’t live a bad life.
"This is all we can prepare for you at home. As for jewelry and fabrics, it's up to you."
In fact, the villagers only gave a few taels of silver for marriage, and some even gave nothing. But it was too unfair for the Jiang family to marry a daughter-in-law.
Jiang Hongyu nodded. He planned to go to the town to see if there was any good fabric. Although the two of them were not getting married based solely on love, he still wanted to give her a good wedding as much as possible.
After talking about the wedding, Jiang Hongyu was about to go out. Aunt Jiang hesitated for a moment and said, "You are getting married, Jingya will probably look for you."
Jiang Hongyu frowned: "I have nothing to do with her."
Aunt Jiang nodded quickly: "I know you have nothing to do with her, but Jingya has been coming home all these years, and the other people in the Jiang family have been talking about her feelings for you."
Although these people living nearby were all exiled, they were not exiled together. Apart from those who were related by blood, the only family that came with the Jiang family was the Lu family.
The Lu family has only one daughter, who has liked Jiang Hongyu since childhood. They once thought about letting Lu Jingya marry Jiang Hongyu.
But both parties had just had the idea and had not yet talked about marriage. They were both exiled and had lived a difficult life in recent years. How could they still think about the marriage that they had almost mentioned?
However, as Lu Jingya grew older and became more beautiful, many families in the village expressed their intention to marry her, but she never agreed and only wanted to marry Jiang Hongyu.
He even tried to please the Jiang family.
Aunt Jiang originally thought that since they were all exiled together, the Lu family knew each other well, and Lu Jingya had a good personality, but Jiang Hongyu had refused her long ago. Later, every time Lu Jingya came, he avoided her.
Even so, Lu Jingya came every two days.
"Mom, Ye Mingzhu and I are getting married. From now on, just ignore irrelevant people to avoid causing other troubles." Jiang Hongyu didn't want to mention Lu Jingya anymore.
"Don't worry, Mom won't cause you any trouble. But we are here together after all, so we have to take care of each other." Aunt Jiang's voice was full of helplessness.
"Mom, I don't blame you. They always bother you, and you are not in good health." Jiang Hongyu once again felt that his mother was too soft-hearted.
Even after living here for several years, Aunt Jiang is still so kind and can never learn to refuse others.
"Forget it, I'll go out first." Jiang Hongyu felt helpless, thinking that after getting married, Ye Mingzhu should be able to help Aunt Jiang a little.
Jiang Hongyu then packed up his things and walked out of the yard.
"Brother Yu, are you going out? I just steamed some buns this morning. Try them." Lu Jingya was waiting at the gate of the courtyard, holding a clean cloth with two white buns on it.
Jiang Hongyu prepared to leave without even looking.
Lu Jingya reached out to grab his clothes, but he dodged her. The steamed bun in Lu Jingya's hand fell to the ground, and she just looked at Jiang Hongyu.
"Brother Yu, we've been together for so many years, are you really going to marry someone else?"
Jiang Hongyu then looked at her and said, "Don't call me that in the future. We have no relationship."
Lu Jingya's eyes were red, and she bit her lips tightly. After a long while, she said, "Brother Yu, is that woman pestering you? I heard that you will marry her because you saved her. I, you saved me before, I, I am yours."
"What?" Aunt Jiang behind the door widened her eyes. When she heard Lu Jingya at the door, she hurried out. She was afraid that both parties would be embarrassed, but after hearing the subsequent conversation, she really couldn't go out.
"When did I ever save you?" Jiang Hongyu's face was frozen cold. "Are you planning to rely on me?"
"No, no," Lu Jingya cried weakly. She wanted to reach out and pull Jiang Hongyu's clothes, but he dodged too quickly. She had to wipe the corners of her eyes with a handkerchief.
"On the way here, I couldn't walk, and the officer wanted to whip me, but you stopped him. The officer whipped you, and your arm was injured. I swore that I would marry you from now on."
Jiang Hongyu frowned and tried hard to recall that he was blocking the whip for his mother and it had nothing to do with Lu Jingya.
Lu Jingya opened her eyes wide in disbelief: "No, it's impossible. You were so nice to me at that time."
"How old were we then? Ten? We were both children. Have I ever spoken to you in all these years? Have I ever paid attention to you? How did you become mine? I had nothing to do with you before, and I will have nothing to do with you in the future. Don't come to my house anymore."
Jiang Hongyu glanced at the gate of his own yard, turned away and left.
Aunt Jiang behind the door quickly shrank inside, looked at Lu Jingya squatting on the ground crying and shook her head, but did not dare to go out.
Lu Jingya squatted on the ground, her heart filled with endless sorrow and sadness. Her eyes were empty and confused, not knowing what to do next.
She stood up shakily, glanced at the Jiang family's yard, and then slowly walked home. She had liked Jiang Hongyu for so many years, and she was unwilling to give up.
When she passed a group of thatched houses, a shabby-dressed woman stood at the door and called out to her, "Jingya, I have a way to make your wish come true."
Lu Jingya looked up blankly, looking at her in disbelief: "Aunt Qing, how can you get what you want?"
When Aunt Qing heard this name, the corners of her mouth twisted. They were both from the capital and married into the Jiang family, so why was she, Li Wanyi, Aunt Jiang and she, Li Qing, Aunt Qing?
Isn't it because her own man has returned to the family? So what if they are legitimate descendants? They were still exiled, so who is more noble?
Aunt Qing had a fake smile on her face: "As long as you give me five taels of silver, I will find a way for you."
Lu Jingya hesitated for a moment and shook her head: "I don't have five taels of silver. I used all my silver to buy flour and make steamed buns. Brother Yu hasn't asked for it yet."
"Where are the steamed buns?" Aunt Qing immediately rushed to Lu Jingya when she heard there were steamed buns.
It was only after Aunt Qing reminded Lu Jingya that she remembered that she had dropped the steamed bun on the ground.
When Aunt Qing heard this, she ran to Aunt Jiang's door without even saying a word.
Fortunately, it was still morning and there was no one around. She picked up the two steamed buns and ran home.
He casually brushed off the dirt on the bun and took a bite: "You prodigal son, you threw such a good bun on the ground."
Lu Jingya looked at Aunt Qing with some disgust. The steamed buns were covered with dirt.
Aunt Qing naturally saw Lu Jingya's expression. She finished the steamed bun without any hesitation and licked the steamed bun crumbs on her hand before leaning close to Lu Jingya's ear and saying, "I have an idea for you. How about you feed me steamed buns for a month, no, two months?"
"Can you really let me marry Brother Yu?" Although Lu Jingya didn't believe it, her eyes lit up.
"I will definitely make your wish come true." Aunt Qing rolled her eyes around, looked around, pulled Lu Jingya to the corner and whispered a few words to her.
