Chapter 191: Beach Hunting
Jiang Hongyu was a little tired from being surrounded by a group of people talking, so he simply nodded: "Okay, we will leave quietly later."
Aunt Guilan handed over the basket in her hand: "This is the lunch we prepared, please don't be disgusted."
Ye Mingzhu smiled a little embarrassedly: "Sister-in-law Ying brought a lot of things yesterday, why did you bother Auntie to bring us food?"
"I see you don't have the energy to cook. Let's eat. After dinner, go to the beach behind the village. There will probably be some seafood after the tide goes out. You can go and take a look." Aunt Guilan simply took out all the vegetables and rice in the basket.
A bowl of fried eggs with green onions, a bowl of stir-fried vegetables, a bowl of braised mixed fish, two bowls of bacon rice, and a few steamed buns.
This kind of food is considered good for an ordinary fisherman's family.
Aunt Guilan urged them to eat quickly. Fearing that they would feel embarrassed, she went to the yard with Sister-in-law Ying to talk.
After Ye Mingzhu and the other person finished eating, Jiang Hongyu went to wash the dishes. She went back to the house and found two pearl rings that Linglong Pavilion had given her as gifts. She stuffed them into Sister Ying's pockets and said, "Sister-in-law, these were given to me when I bought something in town. I haven't worn them yet, so please don't dislike them."
Sister Ying looked at the exquisite ring and quickly waved her hand: "Mingzhu, it's just a few bowls of food, you are too polite."
Ye Mingzhu forced the ring into her hand and said, "Sister-in-law, if you don't accept it, you must be disgusted with me. The pearls on this ring are worthless. Pearls better than this are not expensive."
Sister Ying knew that Ye Mingzhu was being polite. Pearls were worthless, but this ring was made of colorful silk threads, and it would cost several cents to buy it in the town.
She looked at Aunt Guilan, and only when she nodded did she happily accept it: "Then I'll accept it, thank you Mingzhu."
"We are all family. I ate the meal you sent me, but I didn't keep saying thank you." Seeing that she accepted it, Ye Mingzhu felt relieved.
Aunt Guilan knew that Ye Mingzhu didn't want to owe anyone a favor, so she agreed to let Sister Ying accept the ring.
"Okay, we'll leave first. You guys pack up and go out. If anything happens, I'll ask someone to call you." Aunt Guilan took the bowl handed to her by Jiang Hongyu, put it in the basket, and left with Sister-in-law Ying.
Jiang Hongyu and Ye Mingzhu looked at each other and smiled: "Let's go to the beach."
Jiang Hongyu found two wide-brimmed hats, and the two changed into simple clothes and went to the beach behind the village to catch seafood.
The beach here is relatively small and not convenient for docking boats. Except for going to the beach after the tide goes out, people rarely come here.
It was lunchtime, and there weren't many children on the beach. Ye Mingzhu and Jiang Hongyu, each holding a small rake, were digging for clams and razor clams on the sand.
After digging for a while, a little boy came over and said, "Sister Mingzhu, what you dug doesn't taste good. I caught a fish today and I'll give it to you."
After saying that, without waiting for Ye Mingzhu to speak, he put a grouper into Ye Mingzhu's basket.
"Are you, Shitou?" Ye Mingzhu identified him and realized that this was Ye Yun'an's little friend.
"Yes, it's me, Sister Mingzhu. Please wait here. I'll go over there and look for something good and bring it back to you later."
Shitou didn't let Ye Mingzhu say anything and ran away. Ye Mingzhu only had time to say, "Be careful."
Shitou didn't even turn his head, just waved his hand and squatted down.
Jiang Hongyu has been very busy since he came to Yuanshan Village. Before he even crossed the sea, he stood next to Ye Mingzhu and watched her digging a hole.
He watched Shitou walk away and couldn't help but say, "How about we wait for Shitou to find something good and give him some money? I'm afraid this thing won't taste good."
He pointed to razor clams and cockles.
Ye Mingzhu disagreed. She loved eating razor clams and mussels the most. Although there was not much meat in them, the aroma of them when fried with chili peppers was so great that she could eat two bowls of rice with them.
"Brother Yu, I'll go wash the sand with sea water and soak it in clean water when I get home. It will taste better without the sand."
Ye Mingzhu ran happily into the sea. Jiang Hongyu couldn't even stop her. He had to follow her closely, fearing that she would fall into the sea.
Fortunately, Ye Mingzhu walked steadily and rinsed the half basket of clams and mussels she had dug out.
When she turned around, she saw a large rock covered with oysters. She quickly called Jiang Hongyu over. The two of them tried various methods, but in the end it was Shitou who contributed his knife and they were able to dig out all the oysters from the rock.
Ye Mingzhu's face was full of smiles: "We have delicious food tonight."
Shitou also placed the two newly discovered stone nine-fish (somewhat similar to Songjiang perch) in Ye Mingzhu's basket. The stone nine-fish had tender meat and no bones, but they were too small, weighing only about 300 to 400 grams.
Jiang Hongyu didn't want to accept them, but Shitou insisted on giving her everything he picked up.
Ye Mingzhu finally accepted Shitou's things and invited him to dinner at her home that night. Shitou looked at Jiang Hongyu sheepishly and shook his head: "No thanks."
Ye Mingzhu handed the basket to Jiang Hongyu and asked him to go back and soak the clams and mussels in salt water, spit out the sand, and eat them in the evening.
Jiang Hongyu was a little worried, but Ye Mingzhu chased him away: "I'm a pearl diver, what do I have to be afraid of on the beach?"
Ye Mingzhu urged him to go back. She couldn't wait to eat the spicy stir-fried razor clams and mussels.
After Jiang Hongyu left, Shitou said, "Xiao Anzi said that his brother-in-law cooks delicious food."
Ye Mingzhu teased him: "Do you want to go back with us for dinner? Let me tell you, these seafood we picked up are even more delicious than meat when cooked."
"Really?" Shitou's eyes lit up. "Then I'll go home and get some food."
"How much can a little kid like you eat? I'll treat you." Ye Mingzhu laughed. It was just a meal for Ye Yun'an's little friend, and there was still enough food at home.
"Then I'll go see if there are any fish." In Shitou's heart, fish are the most delicious food after the tide goes out.
"Let's look for crabs and conchs, they're delicious too." Thinking of the delicious seafood feast, Ye Mingzhu followed Shitou.
The two of them searched through all the rocks on the beach and found a lot of good things, such as black sea bream, spicy snails, and orchid crabs...
Ye Mingzhu laughed heartily: "Great, there are so many delicious foods, I can have a full meal tonight."
Xiao Wu came over from a distance, looked at Ye Mingzhu who had rolled up her trouser legs and sleeves, and said loudly: "Did you find something delicious? Can I have some?"
When Shitou heard the sound, he hid behind Ye Mingzhu. Ye Mingzhu was almost fallen down by him, splashing mud and water.
Jiang Hongyu took off his shoes and walked over to take the basket from her hand: "Xiaowu heard that you were fishing here, so I had to come over to see you."
Ye Mingzhu wiped the sweat from her head and said, "Take him back first. I'll be back soon."
Jiang Hongyu nodded, and just as he turned around, Xiaowu was standing barefoot behind him: "How did you dig these things?"
