Chapter 244: The Truth
In the study, the young master in brocade robe had not slept for two days and two nights. He laid out all the drawings one by one, hoping to piece together a complete route map.
But these two days, his eyes were red from staying up late, and he still couldn't put all the drawings together.
The door creaked open and sunlight shone through. He narrowed his eyes and could only vaguely make out the arrogant servant.
"Did you buy all the blueprints?"
"Master," the arrogant servant said in a panic, "Linglong Pavilion just now spread the news that their jewelry sketches were stolen. They are planning to hold a jewelry exhibition in five days."
The young master in brocade robes hadn't slept for two days. He didn't understand what the arrogant servant meant for a moment. He waved his hand and said, "It's just a jewelry shop. It has nothing to do with us."
The arrogant servant swallowed his saliva, closed his eyes, and told the news he had heard: "Master, someone said that the blueprints sold some time ago were the sketches lost by the painter of Linglong Pavilion."
"What? Impossible." The young master in brocade robe raised his head suddenly, then his eyes went dark and he fell backwards.
The arrogant servant quickly stepped forward to support him: "Master, Master, are you okay?"
The young master in brocade robes didn't say anything. He waited a moment, letting the dizziness pass, before he said angrily, "What do you mean by the lost blueprints of the painter from Linglong Pavilion?"
The arrogant servant supported the young master in brocade robes, not daring to look at his expression. "When I went to buy the painting today, they sold it to me as long as I paid. I asked someone and found out about this."
The young master in brocade robes turned pale. "Impossible! Go buy all the blueprints and let me see them."
The arrogant servant had already guessed that the young master didn't believe it, so he silently took out the picture he had bought today for five taels of silver and put it on the table.
The young master in brocade robe pushed away the arrogant servant, leaned over the table, opened all the drawings, and checked them one by one.
His expression became increasingly grim, and he dug out the blueprint that the man in black had stolen.
"Who is it? Who did it? Just for a hundred taels of silver, they actually played tricks on me like this?" The young master in brocade robe crumpled the drawings in his hand into a ball.
I didn't notice it at first, but the more I look at it now, the more these drawings look like jewelry drawings, or the kind that are poorly drawn.
The arrogant servant looked at the drawings with heartache. He wanted to remind the young master that he was the one who paid for the drawings, but the young master looked too scary now. He swallowed the words that were on the tip of his tongue and lowered his head silently.
"Go and get ready, let's go to Lin's house." The young master in brocade robe kicked the arrogant servant.
"Young Master, why don't you change your clothes before going?" The arrogant servant looked at his wrinkled clothes and boldly reminded him.
The young master in brocade robe looked at him with red eyes, and the servant lowered his head in fear.
"Go prepare some clothes. I'll change now."
The arrogant servant immediately went downstairs to prepare clothes and also had someone prepare some food.
The young master in brocade robe didn't eat anything. He changed his clothes and went to Lin's house with the arrogant servant.
When the two of them stood at the gate of the Lin residence again, the arrogant servant suddenly pointed at the Jiang family's house and said, "Master, did they release the blueprints on purpose?"
The young master in brocade robes stared at the Jiang family's house with deep eyes, and shook his head for a while: "Linglong Pavilion is the property of the Lin family. My cousin must know about this."
The arrogant servant still believed that Ye Mingzhu was a suspect. The young master in brocade robes sneered and said, "I'll ask my cousin first, and then I'll settle the score with them."
When Mr. Lin met the young master in brocade robe, he readily admitted that the sketches of the painter from Linglong Pavilion were lost.
"Cousin, when you came last time, I reminded you that the sister-in-law next door is the painter of my Linglong Pavilion." Mr. Lin looked at the young master in brocade robe with a calm face.
"The artist at Linglong Pavilion lost her sketches. She told me about it early this morning. We were worried that someone would use those sketches to counterfeit Linglong Pavilion jewelry, so we decided to create Linglong Pavilion's latest jewelry as soon as possible."
The expression of the young master in brocade robe became very ugly. He tried his best to suppress his emotions so as not to go forward and grab Lin Dongjia.
"Cousin, do you know that I have been collecting blueprints? Your painter sold the discarded blueprints for over a hundred taels."
"Impossible," Lin Dongjia said in disbelief, "Ming, Sister Ye would never do such a thing."
The young master in brocade robes had a gloomy expression on his face and sneered, "How can that be impossible? My servant bought this personally."
He glanced at the arrogant servant, who immediately stepped forward and said, "Madam Jiang, I bought all those blueprints. I really spent over a hundred taels."
The pain in his words was too obvious to be fake.
Lin Dongjia thought for a moment and asked, "Did Sister Ye sell those pictures to you?"
"That's not the case," the arrogant servant added after seeing Master Lin relax, "Those people said these pictures were dug out from the house the young master bought. Who else could it be besides her?"
"What you said doesn't make sense. Could it be that someone took Miss Ye's things and sold them to you?" Mr. Lin looked at the young master in brocade robe.
"To be honest, cousin, it was me who asked Sister Ye to conceal the fact that the sketch was lost. According to what you said, I also cheated you out of this money."
"Impossible?" The arrogant servant shook his head reflexively, "Mrs. Jiang doesn't need this hundred taels."
"You say this because you don't know how much money Sister Ye makes from painting. She's the painter at my Linglong Pavilion. Do you think I would treat her unfairly?"
Mr. Lin looked at the arrogant servant with a half-smile, which made him feel very ignorant and his face turned red.
"Cousin, even if you gave that person money, it doesn't necessarily mean she didn't do it," the young master in brocade robes said, trying hard to endure the headache. "I originally suspected that she took the treasures from my room and had an argument with her. It's very likely that she is using this incident to plot against me."
Lin Dongjia had no way to refute this. She picked up the water on the table and took a sip, a tired look on her face: "Cousin, is this what you came to me to talk about today?"
The young master in brocade robe was speechless. He came to Lin's house with anger, but when he got here, he found that he could do nothing.
"You find that person and I will ask her myself." After a long while, he gritted his teeth and said one sentence.
Lin Dongjia looked him up and down, then shook his head: "Cousin, please forgive me for not being able to do this. Sister Ye is not only the painter of my Linglong Pavilion, but also my adopted sister. I can't just stand by and watch others bully her."
"Besides, she's also drawing for Linglong Pavilion in the city. If you touch her, I won't be able to explain to my family."
Every time Lin Dongjia said something, the face of the young master in brocade robes became uglier. When he finished speaking, his face completely darkened: "Cousin, we are relatives."
"Why don't you go and tell my father and uncle about this, cousin?" Mr. Lin threw the pot away.
The young master in brocade robe pursed his lips. If he made a big deal out of this, he was afraid that the matter of the military book would be exposed. He was even more afraid that he would not be able to find the military book in the end. Not only that, but even his father would not be able to explain it.
