Chapter 273 Calling a Doctor
After walking for another half a day, we finally arrived at a pier.
The boatman came to inform that the official ship would stay here for two hours.
Ye Mingzhu was discussing with Uncle Yan whether to get off the boat to buy some things when Jian Pingping came over. She looked at Ye Mingzhu embarrassedly and licked her lips.
"Mingzhu, can you accompany me to the clinic? I can't take An An to the clinic by myself."
Ye Mingzhu hesitated for a moment. It was not that she was unwilling, but they were unfamiliar with the place and it would be inconvenient to bring a sick child with them.
"Uncle Yan, please go to the clinic and find a doctor to see you."
Jian Pingping looked at Uncle Yan as Ye Mingzhu spoke, his eyes shining: "Uncle Yan, why don't you take me there."
Uncle Yan looked at Jian Pingping's thin figure, then looked at Ye Mingzhu: "I'll go by myself. It'll be faster."
When Jian Pingping spoke, Ye Mingzhu guessed that Uncle Yan would not take her with him.
"Uncle Yan is here and can bring the person back quickly. Pingping, tell Uncle Yan about An An's situation."
Ye Mingzhu reminded Jian Pingping.
Jian Pingping immediately and quickly recounted Jian Anan's condition, then thought for a moment and said, "I'll have to trouble Uncle Yan to find a doctor this time."
Uncle Yan nodded and was about to leave when Jian Pingping called her over as if she had thought of something, and took out a purse from her pocket and handed it to him.
Uncle Yan glanced at the purse and didn't take it. He just said, "I still have some money. I'll give it to you after I get the doctor back."
Jian Pingping looked back at Ye Mingzhu in confusion: "Mingzhu, is Uncle Yan angry?"
Ye Mingzhu didn't notice that Uncle Yan was angry. Her eyes fell on the purse in Jian Pingping's hand. A lotus with two stems was embroidered on the dark green lotus leaf.
She praised: "The lotus embroidery on it is really beautiful."
Jian Pingping's eyes fell on the purse in his hand, his eyes widened instantly, and he hurriedly put the purse into his sleeve: "I took the wrong one when I went out."
How could she give the Lotus purse to anyone casually? She was in a hurry when she went out just now, so she just took a purse from the box, put some silver in it and came here without paying any attention to the pattern on it.
When she thought about the stupid thing she had done, Jian Pingping's face was about to burn. She lowered her head and said, "I'll go back and see how An An is doing."
Ye Mingzhu also reacted. She nodded and sent Jian Pingping back.
Uncle Yan was very quick. After a while, he called a doctor and took him directly to Jian Pingping's cabin. He stood at the door and did not go in.
Doctor Fang's clinic is located near the pier. He has seen many people drowning. With just one glance, he could tell that Jian Anan was in a state of drowning.
After taking Jian Anan's pulse, he lifted her eyelids and took a look before standing up.
"Did this child take any medicine?"
"Yes, I had a fever yesterday and took a fever-reducing pill." Jian Pingping nodded randomly. "We were on the boat at the time, so we could only reduce the fever first. Could it be..."
Jian Pingping couldn't continue speaking and just stared at Doctor Fang.
Doctor Fang was calm. He sat on the stool next to him and began to write a prescription. Jian Pingping, who was standing next to him, bit her lips anxiously and frowned, but did not dare to make a sound to disturb him.
"Come back to the clinic with me to get the medicine. This prescription will almost cure you in three days." Doctor Fang dried the prescription he had just written and handed it to Jian Pingping.
Jian Pingping took the prescription, his hands shaking a little: "Only three days will cure it?"
"Why, do you have questions about my prescription?" Doctor Fang's face immediately drooped. "If you're worried, don't take my medicine."
Doctor Fang reached out to take the prescription back, but Jian Pingping immediately dodged, constantly praising him: "There's no doubt about it. I didn't expect your medical skills to be so good. My brother's illness was cured in just three days."
After she finished speaking, she took out a ten-liang silver ingot from her purse and handed it to Doctor Fang: "Doctor, this is my consultation fee. If it's not enough, please let me know."
Doctor Fang saw that she was speaking with sincerity. He took the silver ingot and squeezed it hard. His expression brightened a little. "No matter how good my medicine is, it depends on the patient's foundation. Your brother was treated promptly after drowning, and the antipyretic medicine he took was of very good quality. Otherwise, he would have needed to take medicine for at least ten days, not three."
Jian Pingping nodded continuously: "I have to thank you, doctor. I'll go get the medicine with you now. Have you paid for the consultation?"
Doctor Fang then took the silver and looked at it in front of him, nodding: "That's almost enough."
Jian Pingping felt relieved and sent the doctor to the door. Uncle Yan was still standing at the door. She was about to speak when Uncle Yan spoke.
"I'll take the doctor back and bring back the medicine. Is there anything else you want to buy?"
Jian Pingping didn't expect Uncle Yan to be so kind. She shook her head and said, "No more."
Uncle Yan looked at Doctor Fang and asked him to go ahead. Jian Pingping called him again, making a mosquito-like sound: "How about buying some candied fruit? The medicine is too bitter, An An, I'm afraid I can't eat it."
For some reason, she was so nervous that she broke the sentence into several parts.
"I understand." Uncle Yan's expression did not change as he saw Doctor Fang off the boat.
Jian Pingping returned to the cabin. Although Jian Anan's illness had not yet been cured, she had already put most of her worries at ease. She just had to wait for Jian Anan to take the medicine, and then she would be able to completely relax.
I don’t know how long it took, but Uncle Yan came back with a big bag of medicine.
At the cabin door, he explained the exact dosage of all the medicines one by one. Jian Pingping frowned, "Just now the doctor said An An only needs to take the medicine for three days."
"An An's illness only requires three days of medicine. The rest is for conditioning his body. He's young and has been at sea all the time, so conditioning will be better for his body. The rest is candied fruit."
Uncle Yan turned to leave after giving his instructions, but Jian Pingping quickly stopped him and went back into the cabin: "I'll get you the money."
"No, the silver you gave the doctor is enough to buy all the medicine. These candied fruits are bought with the remaining silver."
Jian Pingping looked at the large bag of medicine in disbelief: "I only gave the doctor ten taels of silver just now."
Uncle Yan looked at Jian Pingping speechlessly. This girl had never been out of the house. She didn't know how much she could buy with ten taels of silver. Many poor families couldn't even spend three taels of silver in a year.
Although the money was not his, he could not bear to see such wasteful behavior, so he asked the doctor to exchange the extra money for tonics and candied fruits.
He didn't say what he had just done, but although Jian Pingping was simple, she was not stupid. She guessed that it was Uncle Yan who gave her the tonic. She bowed to Uncle Yan and said, "Thank you, Uncle Yan."
Uncle Yan nodded, turned and left.
Jian Pingping held a large bag of medicine in her arms. Although it smelled bad, she felt at ease.
She took out the medicine she had taken for the past three days and went to the boatman to borrow the casserole for boiling the medicine. With the help of the boatman, she boiled the medicine and brought it back to the cabin.
Yesterday, with Ye Mingzhu's help, she fed the antipyretic medicine to Jian Anan. Now that Jian Anan was lying in bed, she didn't know how to feed her the medicine for a while.
Just when she was in trouble, Jian Anan opened her eyes.
