Chapter 301 A Scream
"Okay, I'll come back when my uncle gets married."
Ye Mingzhu and Ye Yun'an are Wang Dahu's only remaining relatives, and she also hopes to attend his wedding.
"I'll also come when my uncle gets married." Ye Yun'an got off the carriage and immediately walked over when he heard Ye Mingzhu talking.
Wang Dahu patted his shoulder and said, "Yun'an, I can't be with you. You have to take good care of yourself and your sister."
Ye Yun'an stood on tiptoe: "I'm almost as tall as my sister. I will take good care of her."
Wang Dahu was amused by his actions. He praised Ye Yun'an and looked at Uncle Yan.
"Brother Yan, thank you for your hard work on the way back. I will thank you again when we meet next time." He bowed to Uncle Yan with a pleading look on his face.
"Brother Dahu, you are too polite. Mingzhu and Yun'an call me uncle, so they are my nephews and nieces. I will definitely take good care of them." Uncle Yan has no children of his own and almost treats the two as his own children.
Seeing that it was getting late, Wang Dahu asked a few people to get on the carriage, thinking it would be better to leave early.
Ye Mingzhu understood that it was better to leave early than late, so she got on the carriage without any hesitation. Ye Yun'an had tears in his eyes: "Uncle, I will miss you."
Wang Dahu wanted to scold Tian Ming to death. If Tian Ming hadn't caused trouble, he would have been able to spend a few more days with his niece and nephew.
He just watched the carriage leave and was reluctant to go back until it turned the corner.
Qiu Sheng had been standing nearby. Seeing that the carriage had disappeared, he wanted to persuade Wang Dahu to leave, but Wang Dahu had already put away the reluctance on his face and said with a stern face, "Qiu Sheng, prepare the carriage and take me to the dock."
He wanted to go back to the big ship. Although he had sent Ye Mingzhu away, he was worried that the master's family would come and Ye Mingzhu would be implicated.
In the past, he had a good relationship with Tian Ming and trusted him, and even took the blame for him. However, he did not expect Tian Ming to cause such a big trouble. Now Ye Mingzhu is involved. He no longer has the same mentality as before. He wants to keep an eye on Tian Ming to prevent Tian Ming from telling Ye Mingzhu about it.
On the other side, Uncle Yan drove his carriage westward along the road.
Inside the carriage, Ye Yun'an's face was full of questions: "Sister, what happened? Why are we in such a hurry to leave?"
Ye Mingzhu hadn't told Wang Dahu the details, so how could she tell Ye Yun'an? She just smiled and said, "My uncle is busy and has no time to take care of us. Besides, we've been here for many days. If we don't go back, we won't be able to celebrate the New Year."
Ye Yun'an felt something was wrong, but he couldn't tell what was wrong.
Ye Mingzhu changed the subject directly: "We will take a carriage back. We will probably pass through several counties and towns. We will buy some New Year's goods to take home."
Ye Yun'an became interested: "Will the things here be different from ours?"
"We'll stay and see what happens, as long as it doesn't delay our return home for the New Year." Ye Mingzhu breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that Ye Yun'an was no longer worried about the reason for going back.
Qiu Sheng bought them a newly grown horse and fed it well before they set off. Although the road was a bit bumpy, the horse was walking quite fast. Unfortunately, they walked for a whole morning and did not find any inns or restaurants, so they had to prepare their own food for lunch.
Uncle Yan found a place sheltered from the wind to stop the carriage, took some licorice and bean cakes for the horses to eat, and started digging a pit to cook.
Ye Yun'an was very interested and went over to help. Ye Mingzhu went to the carriage to see what Wang Dahu had prepared for them.
A large box of various dim sum, meat patties, sesame cakes, meat buns, white buns, steamed sausages, several large pieces of bacon, as well as smoked chicken, smoked duck, smoked rabbit...
Rice, flour, millet, dates, some dried vegetables, and even various seasonings...
After seeing what they saw, Ye Mingzhu could only express admiration. Who prepared all these things for them? It was so comprehensive that even if they didn't come across any inns or restaurants along the way, they could cook and eat by themselves.
In Wang Dahu's house, the cook looked at the empty kitchen and went to Qiu Sheng to complain: "Why did you take away everything? What are we going to eat these days?"
Qiu Sheng chuckled: "The master is not at home these days anyway, so let's keep it simple."
The cook glared at him, "There's nothing in the kitchen. Even if you want something complicated, there's nothing there."
Qiu Sheng pleaded again and again and promised to go out shopping in the next two days before he coaxed the cook.
In the carriage, Ye Yun'an looked at the pile of things with a look of surprise: "Uncle is too thoughtful. He prepared so many things, enough for us to eat until we get home."
He scooped half a bowl of rice first, then took the meat pie: "Let's have meat pie for lunch."
Ye Mingzhu has no opinion on what to eat, as long as she is full.
Ye Yun'an happily took the rice and meat patties to find Uncle Yan.
In the dry and cold winter, drinking a bowl of rice porridge and eating two meat patties is simply wonderful.
Ye Yun'an's initial worries had completely disappeared: "This meat pie is really delicious. Let's have meat pie tonight."
Uncle Yan nodded and said, "Let's find a farmer's house to stay at night. Otherwise, it will be too cold to sleep in the carriage."
Especially since there were three of them, Ye Mingzhu could only sleep in the carriage, while Uncle Yan and Ye Yun'an could only sleep on the floor outside. Even if they had quilts, the weather would be enough to make them suffer.
Ye Yun'an nodded immediately. He didn't want to sleep in the wild.
But ideals are full and reality is very skinny. They started searching when it was almost dark and kept searching until it was completely dark, but they didn't find a single farmhouse.
Ye Yun'an held a hand warmer, lifted the curtain, and looked at the darkness around him. He always felt that someone was staring at them, and he shuddered.
"Uncle Yan, where are we going to sleep tonight?"
Uncle Yan's brow had been furrowed since the afternoon. He hadn't expected that there were no farmhouses along the way. But now it was completely dark, and it was difficult to move forward. He could only find a place to rest.
Although there was a gas lantern hanging on their carriage, the lighting range was limited and they could not see far away.
Even though the road conditions were bad, Uncle Yan walked forward for another quarter of an hour and found a half-collapsed house.
Ye Yun'an watched Uncle Yan stop beside the dilapidated house and get off the carriage, his eyes full of disgust: "Uncle Yan, are we going to sleep here?"
"Yes, don't look at this place because it looks shabby, but there are walls here. Let's go inside and see if there are any wooden boards or something. It would be more comfortable than sleeping on the ground."
Uncle Yan untied the lantern from the carriage, walked around the dilapidated house with it, and came back with joy in his eyes: "There are two rooms inside. The roof hasn't collapsed too badly, and there are still boards on the ground. If we tidy them up, we can sleep in them tonight."
Ye Mingzhu and Ye Yun'an happily followed Uncle Yan inside.
Uncle Yan found a broken broom in the yard, swept the broken board clean, put oilcloth on it, took the bedding from the carriage, and made a simple bed.
For safety, Ye Mingzhu slept inside, while Uncle Yan and Ye Yunan slept outside.
They had been on the road all day and, apart from being tired, they were not very hungry, so they simply boiled a pot of hot water, and each of them simply ate some dry food before lying down on their beds.
Ye Mingzhu had just fallen asleep when she heard a scream from outside.
