Chapter 41 Pearl Makes Shoes
Ye Mingzhu told him that Lin Dongjia and Jiang Wanyi were coming. "They are both nobles, so it's not appropriate for them to be crowded together with the villagers. We can only have a separate table."
Jiang Hongyu waved his hand: "It's not a big deal. Let my mother and Third Aunt accompany them when the time comes."
After setting the wedding date, the two discussed holding a wedding banquet together with relatives from both sides. The Jiang family had very few relatives in Yuanshan Village, and most of them were exiled.
Although Ye Mingzhu has Uncle Ye and his wife to help manage the affairs of the family, they are not her biological parents after all.
The two of them simply held the banquet together, which was lively and saved trouble.
"My mother has already ordered some dishes from my aunt in the village, with whom I have a good relationship. I also ordered two pigs from a butcher in the neighboring village. I went to the sea two days in advance to catch some fresh fish..."
Jiang Hongyu told Ye Mingzhu about his plan: "I've asked a friend to be the chef, and I've also found two aunts to help with the washing of vegetables. I plan to notify each family of the specific date once the house is built. Is that okay with you?"
Ye Mingzhu was not clear about the marriage customs in Yuanshan Village, so she planned to ask her uncle Ye.
Jiang Hongyu smiled and said, "I've already asked Uncle Ye. He said that most of the time when marrying off a daughter in our village, they invite close relatives. He also gave me a list of some close relatives."
Well, since he has arranged everything, what else can she say? She can only nod and say yes.
It felt good not to have to worry about anything, but she still asked, "What can I do for you?"
Jiang Hongyu: "Just stay home and wait to be your bride."
Ye Mingzhu suddenly felt aroused, but Jiang Hongyu's face remained calm, except for his ears which were slightly red.
She lowered her head and touched her nose, and for a moment the yard became quiet.
Ye Yun'an was worried about the two people in the house, wondering why they didn't say a few more words. He leaned out of the door and accidentally kicked the stone beside the door.
The sound of the rolling stone startled the two men, and they realized that there was someone eavesdropping in the house.
Ye Mingzhu turned around and glared at him. When she turned around again, she remembered something: "The clothes I made for you are almost done. Take them back and try them on. If there are any problems, I will modify them."
Jiang Hongyu showed a hint of surprise at the right time: "It's done so soon."
Ye Mingzhu felt a little guilty, lowered her head and went back to the house to get her clothes.
If Fang hadn't asked her about the wedding dress, she would have completely forgotten about making clothes for Jiang Hongyu.
I have been busy drawing pictures to make money these days.
Jiang Hongyu planned to wear the clothes for his wedding, and she was afraid that they wouldn't be made well, so she spent half the night in the space to finish it.
Ye Mingzhu found a piece of cloth to wrap the clothes and handed it to Jiang Hongyu.
Jiang Hongyu quietly wiped his hands on both sides of his clothes, and only took the bag after he felt that his palms were no longer sweaty.
"I've ordered furniture in the county town. Do you want to go take a look?"
Ye Mingzhu shook her head: "No need, I trust your judgment."
The truth is that she doesn't know how to look at furniture, so it's better for her to stop being an amateur and give orders to an expert.
But her words obviously pleased Jiang Hongyu, and the lines on Jiang Hongyu's face relaxed: "Then I'll go home and try on clothes."
Ye Mingzhu nodded. Jiang Hongyu left in a hurry, which made Ye Mingzhu realize that the cloth shoes on his feet were worn out. There were obvious signs of wear on the toes and the uppers were covered with dust.
Ye Mingzhu thought about it, called Ye Yun'an over, and said a few words to him.
Ye Yunan smiled mischievously: "I'll go now."
Ye Mingzhu stopped him and said, "Wait a minute, go find me at Third Aunt's house. I'll go there first."
Ye Yun'an stuck out his tongue and ran away immediately.
Ye Mingzhu turned around and went back to the house to look for fabric. After searching for a while, she found that there was no fabric suitable for making shoes. She had to cut off a piece of green fabric, which could probably be used to make a piece of clothing.
"Aunt San, are you home?" Ye Mingzhu shouted at the door.
When Fang saw her, her face was full of surprise: "Mingzhu is here, come in quickly."
As soon as Ye Mingzhu sat down, Fang poured her a cup of sugar water and placed a box of preserved fruits in front of her: "This is what your third uncle bought. Come and try it."
Ye Mingzhu picked one up and put it in her mouth, praising, "My Third Uncle is really caring. He just made some money and he's already thinking of buying food for Auntie."
"You little girl, even your third aunt is making fun of you." Fang's face turned red and she patted her arm.
"Third Aunt, I'm telling the truth." Ye Mingzhu said, handing the cloth in her hand to Fang: "Third Aunt, I came to ask you for something today."
"I want my third aunt to teach me how to make shoes."
Fang looked at the fabric she brought and said, "This fabric is too soft, and the color is not suitable for making shoes. Leave your measurements and I'll make it for you."
Ye Mingzhu shook her head: "Aunt, I don't have any cloth to make shoes at home. I want to exchange this piece of cloth with you."
"Kid, how much cloth is needed to make shoes? I'll make them for you and Yun'an. Don't worry about it."
Ye Mingzhu was about to say that she was making them for Jiang Hongyu when Ye Yunan ran in from outside and handed her a piece of paper: "Sister, this is the pattern of Brother Jiang's shoes."
Fang suddenly realized, and her face and eyes were full of smiles. She said, "Why did Ye Mingzhu suddenly think of making shoes? It turns out she is making them for her fiancé."
Ye Mingzhu blushed and said bluntly, "Jiang Hongyu took over all the wedding matters. I saw that his shoes were old, so I wanted to make him a new pair."
Fang suppressed a laugh and said, "Making shoes for my fiancé is a serious matter. It's good, very good."
Ye Mingzhu originally thought it was nothing, but after being laughed at by Ye Yunan and then teased by Fang, she felt a little embarrassed.
"Mingzhu, to make shoes you have to make the soles first, and to make the soles you have to paste the 'cloth ribs'. This is not a one-day job. Do you want to start with the 'cloth ribs' or use one of my soles? I've seen that Jiang Hongyu's feet are about the same size as your third uncle's. I have some pre-made soles here, you can take them home first."
Ye Mingzhu wanted to learn from scratch. When she got married, she couldn't always trouble her third aunt to make shoes for her.
"Aunt San, I'll start by pasting the 'cloth skeleton'."
Fang said with a look of astonishment, "We need rags to paste the cloth bones. Why don't you go back and see if there are any rags at home?"
Ye Mingzhu didn't think much about it, turned around and went home to get some old clothes that the original owner didn't wear.
Fang had already boiled a small pot of thin paste and asked Ye Mingzhu to tear all the clothes into pieces of cloth, avoid the patches, stick a piece of cloth on a door panel, and apply a layer of paste. She did not stop until she had pasted seven or eight layers.
"When making shoes, it's best to paste five layers. I usually paste seven or eight layers. They are not only wear-resistant but also comfortable to wear."
Ye Mingzhu nodded, and Fang looked at the remaining fabric: "There are still quite a few scraps of fabric here, enough to make two pairs of shoes, or will they all get mushy?"
Ye Mingzhu was working on her work, so of course she agreed. She cut the fabric, pasted the pieces, and applied glue until all the fabric was used up.
