Chapter 425 A Chance

Chapter 425 A Chance

Jiang Hongyu asked Yunniang to deliver a letter to the Yan family, and divided the things he brought back into two parts, one for Ye Mingzhu to keep, and the other for Aunt Qing later.

But they waited until the evening, and Aunt Qing didn't come. She just sent someone to tell her.

Jiang Hongyu frowned and asked Ye Mingzhu, "Is it true that since Zhou Jinman came, mother hasn't come to our place?"

Speaking of this, the smile on Ye Mingzhu's face faded: "Since my cousin from the Zhou family came, I have only been there once. My mother told me not to go there unless necessary, so as to avoid being pestered by my cousin from the Zhou family."

Ye Mingzhu expressed her worries again: "The Zhou cousin is very cute and has a sweet and innocent personality. She seems to have been loved and pampered when she was growing up."

But Zhou Jinman is just a concubine's daughter. Even if she is loved by her father, her temperament should not be like this. She is really too true to her nature.

Jiang Hongyu nodded: "I understand. I will ask someone to investigate the situation. Otherwise, let someone tell mother tomorrow and I will take you to the county to stay for a few days."

Ye Mingzhu hesitated a little: "Is it not a good idea for us to leave mother at home?"

Jiang Hongyu shook his head: "Zhou Jinman is here, mother won't go with us."

Ye Mingzhu also understood this logic, she just felt that it was not a good idea to leave Aunt Qing behind and go out to play with them.

"By the way, where are Yun'an and Ludou? I haven't seen them since I came back for so long?" Jiang Hongyu only then realized that the house was too quiet.

Ye Mingzhu burst out laughing: "You've been back for so long, and you just realized that they are not at home."

"Some time ago, when Uncle Yan went to the county town, he took them with him, saying that they should go with him to study. What could two children learn?"

Ye Mingzhu was afraid that the two children would delay Uncle Yan's work, but the two children pleaded for them, and Uncle Yan was willing to agree. In the end, he had no choice but to let him take the two children away.

"It just so happens that we can see them when we go to the county."

Finally, after Jiang Hongyu's persuasion, Ye Mingzhu agreed to go to the town.

She asked someone to deliver the things to Aunt Qing, and then went next door to talk to Doctor Zhou, asking him to pay more attention to Aunt Qing during this period.

Aunt Qing and Doctor Zhou both replied to the letter. The next morning, Jiang Hongyu and Ye Mingzhu went to the county, while Old Hu and Yunniang stayed at home.

Jiang Hongyu rented a carriage and drove it himself. He also bought some snacks and candied fruits for Ye Mingzhu before setting off.

Ye Mingzhu was holding the snack box and said with amusement: "Have you forgotten that we have a snack shop at home? You actually went to someone else's house to buy snacks."

Jiang Hongyu waved the reins gently: "The dim sum shop is in the county town. We can't let you go there on an empty stomach. Besides, if you try these dim sum and find them delicious, you can talk to Aunt Mo and we can add some varieties to the dim sum shop."

"You know all this." Ye Mingzhu smiled, took out two small snacks, put one in Jiang Hongyu's mouth, and ate the other one herself.

Both of them had already had breakfast and only had two pieces of dessert each and didn't eat any more.

Ye Mingzhu was bored sitting in the carriage, so Jiang Hongyu asked her to sit on the shaft and taught her how to drive the carriage.

They went to the farm first. When Wu Jiang saw the two people coming, his mouth widened.

"Boss, I dug up a sweet potato a few days ago. It's growing better than last year."

Ye Mingzhu smiled and said, "Can we dig it now?"

"The old farmer on the farm thinks we can plant for another half a month, and the sweet potatoes that grow will be even bigger. I've sent someone to inform Master Yu."

Wu Jiang realized something was wrong after he finished speaking: "Boss, you said before that the sweet potatoes planted in several nearby farms were all helped by people sent by the county government, so I notified Lord Yu."

The smile on Ye Mingzhu's face faded a little. Jiang Hongyu glanced at her and suddenly said, "We are tired from riding in the carriage. Let's go and rest for a while."

Neither of them paid any attention to Wu Jiang and went back to the main courtyard to rest.

The main courtyard was as clean as usual, and it was obvious that someone had been cleaning it.

Wu Jiang followed them, personally served them tea, and held the account book in his hand, reporting on the situation on the farm in the past few months.

Ye Mingzhu sat in a chair drinking tea and didn't say anything.

"Boss, this is the situation of our farm in the past few months. Can you see if there is any problem?" Wu Jiang said and put the account book on the table next to Ye Mingzhu.

Ye Mingzhu looked at the account book without saying a word, her fingers tapping lightly on the table.

After a while, Ye Mingzhu said, "Wu Zhuangtou, you have been working in this farm for a long time, right?"

Wu Jiang wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, "Yes, Boss, I have always been at this farm."

"I took over this farm and didn't change the manager. Do you know why?" Ye Mingzhu tapped the account book with his fingers and slowly looked up.

"Boss, boss." Wu Jiang called out twice and couldn't continue.

"I think you're a very honest person, so I'll give you a chance. I hope you can manage the farm well. Wu Yue went to work in a shop in the county town, and Wu Tie learned to make pastries from Aunt Mo. Wu Jiang, am I treating your Wu family well?"

Ye Mingzhu's voice was not loud, but it was like thunder exploding in Wu Jiang's ears. He immediately knelt down and said, "The boss treats my whole family well. I know that. I am also devoted to Zhuangzi and have never done anything to let him down."

A smile appeared on Ye Mingzhu's face: "I don't know if you have done anything to offend Zhuangzi, but do you know who this Zhuangzi belongs to?"

"Master, I didn't betray you. I didn't tell anyone about what happened at the manor. It was you who asked Master Yu to take charge of the manor temporarily."

There was a hint of grievance in Wu Jiang's voice; he really felt that he was wronged.

Ye Mingzhu looked at him expressionlessly. "I said you could ask Lord Yu and Lord Cui if you have any questions, but did I ever say I don't care about what's going on at the farm? You've been the head of the farm for so long, have you ever thought of showing me the account books?"

Wu Jiang was speechless for a moment, and after a while he replied: "I, I didn't think of it for a while."

Ye Mingzhu picked up the account book and spoke in a low but clear voice: "The snack shop in the county town has only been open for a few months, and I have already checked the account book three times."

Wu Jiang had no words to defend himself, so he could only lower his head and say, "Boss, I was wrong. Please give me a chance."

He just thought that he had done a good job and had not let his boss down, but he never thought about taking the initiative to report to his boss.

In his situation, even if there is no problem now, there will be a problem sooner or later.

Ye Mingzhu ignored him and looked through all the information in the account book before speaking: "I'll only give you one chance. If there is any problem again, I don't mind changing the head of this manor."

Wu Jiang breathed a sigh of relief and knelt down to kowtow: "Don't worry, Boss. I will do my best and inform you immediately if anything happens."

Ye Mingzhu said "hmm", took the account book and left.

On the carriage to the county town, Jiang Hongyu asked Ye Mingzhu: "Why didn't you change to Wu Jiang?"
