Chapter 57: Windfall
Before Ye Mingzhu dived to the bottom of the sea, the rope became taut. She took out another piece of rope, tied it up, and continued to swim towards the bottom of the sea with the other end.
When she arrived near the shipwreck, she took out a box from the space and tied it firmly to the rope.
Then she dived into another shipwreck and seemed to see some light.
The ship was no longer recognizable in its original form. She gently pulled the plank and pulled it down directly.
After a shake, she knew what the bright light was. It was a huge pearl, several times larger than the pearls they usually collected, as big as a newborn baby's fist.
There was only this one pearl among the debris. Ye Mingzhu reached out and picked up the big pearl without any bad feeling.
She sent the big pearl directly into the space, searched around again, and found two intact small boxes, which she still sent into the space.
There seemed to be gold and silver among some debris on the broken planks. She had no suitable tools, so she could only go back with regret.
She just wanted to collect this sea water into the space, but there were many reefs nearby. She was afraid of causing any changes and hurting her uncle and third uncle on the sea again, so she had to give up and thought about having a chance to hunt for treasure again in the future.
Returning to the tied box, she shook the rope vigorously and floated upwards by dragging it.
When they had walked about halfway, Uncle Ye came over along the rope and gestured to her to go ashore first while he dragged the box below.
Ye Mingzhu calculated the remaining distance and felt that it would be no problem with Uncle San's physical strength. She nodded, floated to the surface, and helped Wang Dahu pull the rope.
Unexpectedly, the speed at which the rope was pulled up was slower than Ye Mingzhu had judged. In the end, Ye Mingzhu had to go down to help and finally pulled the box up.
Uncle Ye wrapped himself in a blanket, drank some hot water, and after a long while, he smiled bitterly and said, "I'm really old. I can hardly swim such a short distance."
Ye Mingzhu, also wrapped in a blanket, advised, "Uncle San, this box is quite heavy, especially in the sea. If you hadn't gone down to pick me up, I would have almost been unable to get out."
Wang Dahu circled Ye Mingzhu and looked her up and down nervously: "Mingzhu, are you feeling unwell?"
"No, no." Ye Mingzhu just wanted to comfort Uncle Ye San, she was fine.
"Uncle, take a look at what's in this box. Is the lock on it easy to open?"
Ye Mingzhu quickly changed the subject.
"Only the chief steward has the key to this box. We don't have it." Wang Dahu shook his head. "This box has been soaked in water. I'm afraid it won't be easy to store. How about we just pry the lock open?"
Ye Mingzhu went straight to the cabin and took out a kitchen knife: "Uncle, can I use this kitchen knife to split it open?"
Wang Dahu took the kitchen knife from her hand and said, "How dare you be so fierce, kid? You just picked up the kitchen knife and brought it over."
Ye Mingzhu: "Then how should I get it?"
Wang Dahu was choked and didn't know how to answer. He lowered his head and started to chop the padlock, but it was too dark and he couldn't see clearly. He only saw the lock on the box several times.
Ye Mingzhu was terrified and could only grab the kitchen knife: "Uncle, you are tired, let me try."
"Be careful, be careful, don't cut your hands." After Wang Dahu said these words, Ye Mingzhu cut off the padlock.
Wang Dahu: ...It was too dark, I couldn’t see anything.
Ye Mingzhu carefully opened the lid of the box, and Uncle Ye brought over the boat lamp. For a moment, the place became much brighter.
There were three small boxes neatly arranged in the big box. Ye Mingzhu took out the three small boxes.
There was no lock on the small box, so she opened it directly. In an instant, the boat became brighter.
"What is this? A gem?" Uncle Ye was the first to react and asked stutteringly.
He had been in and out of Linglong Pavilion many times during this period and had become familiar with various jewelry. He knew that various gemstones were much more expensive than pearls because of their rarity.
"This must be the most expensive box of gems that the steward specially left behind. I didn't expect it to be here." Wang Dahu sighed, "Mingzhu, you are so lucky. If it weren't for you, this entire box of gems would have remained on the seabed forever."
Ye Mingzhu thought of the boxes in the space and laughed dryly: "Uncle, please don't say that. We are all family. Besides, if it weren't for you and Third Uncle, I wouldn't be able to pull these boxes up by myself."
Wang Dahu didn't know whether it was possible or not. He always felt that Ye Mingzhu didn't put in much effort.
Didn’t you see that Uncle Ye’s breathing was still a little rapid after resting for a while, while Ye Mingzhu’s breathing and movements were no different from usual.
"Mingzhu, don't say that. If it weren't for your help, my uncle wouldn't have been able to get up here, let alone say he saw such a precious gem." Shame flashed across Uncle Ye's face.
"In that case, let's talk about how to divide the gem."
Wang Dahu was very satisfied to see that Uncle Ye Sanshu didn't take credit for himself. "There are three boxes of gems in total. Brother San and I will split one box, and the other two boxes will be Mingzhu's dowry. Brother San, what do you think?"
Uncle Ye nodded immediately: "As it should be. If we don't have the pearl, we won't be able to get the gem."
Ye Mingzhu quickly shook her head. There were still several boxes in her space, and she would definitely be able to find some gems.
Wang Dahu is still a servant in someone else's family, and Uncle Ye's family is just getting by. Since she has taken out this box, she won't ask for more.
"Uncle, Third Uncle, I can't pull these boxes up here without you two. We're all family, so each of us has one of these three boxes."
Ye Mingzhu placed the two boxes at the feet of the two people and picked up the remaining one herself.
Wang Dahu firmly disagreed, but he was unable to persuade Ye Mingzhu. Finally, he grabbed a handful of things from his box and handed them to Ye Mingzhu: "Mingzhu, these are the dowry that your uncle prepared for you. You can't refuse."
Seeing this, Third Uncle Ye grabbed a handful of things from his box and handed them to Ye Mingzhu: "Mingzhu, this is the dowry Third Uncle gave you."
Ye Mingzhu felt a little helpless. Why did these elders always want to give her money? She had several times more in her space, but she just couldn't say it out.
"Okay, it's decided. It's almost time for us to go back." Wang Dahu made the final decision: "Mingzhu, don't refuse. Your third uncle and I are elders. We can't take advantage of the younger generation."
Ye Mingzhu had no choice but to agree, but there were too many gems in the box and it could not be closed. Ye Mingzhu rummaged through her body and actually found a purse from the space, poured some gems into it, and then she closed the box.
Uncle Ye and Wang Dahu put away their boxes and started rowing back.
After rowing for about half an hour, Ye Mingzhu suddenly had a strange feeling, as if there was something strange in the space, and something in the sea was calling her.
