Chapter 33 Marriage
The wedding date was soon set, and both families were preparing in full swing.
While Fang Yu was preparing, she was secretly complaining that Shengxia was really a scoundrel and was eager to marry her off.
Soon all the ministers in the court also received the invitation. In the Wei Dynasty, the brother would dress up at home in the morning, and at noon he would host a banquet for his relatives and friends at home. In the afternoon, the man would choose an auspicious time to pick up the bride.
Xia Yanjing has had nothing to do recently, so he exercises at home every day. After a few days, Xia Yanjing no longer feels sore in his body, and he believes that he will be able to build muscles soon.
As the wedding date is approaching, Xia Yanjing will go to accompany Xiaohong whenever he is free. Although Xiaohong is reluctant to let her go, she knows that her son is going to have a better life and she should be happy.
As the wedding date approached, Butler Wu came in person to deliver the wedding dress. Sheng Yuan had instructed Butler Wu to have dozens of embroiderers make the wedding dress.
Although their marriage was fake, since his younger brother was getting married, he would not let his younger brother settle for less. His younger brother deserved the best.
Xia Yanjing received the wedding dress and tried it on. It was made entirely of red brocade with intricate auspicious cloud patterns embroidered with gold thread. On the back was a pattern of a magpie climbing a branch, and on the front was embroidered mandarin ducks. It was very exquisite.
Xia Yanjing couldn't help but admire the craftsmanship of the ancients. The patterns on the wedding dress were so lifelike that if it were in modern times, it would be considered a rare treasure.
Time flies, and soon it is the day of their wedding. Xia Yanjing is woken up by the servant early in the morning to take a bath, wash his hair, and change into the wedding dress that was delivered earlier.
This was the first time Xia Yanjing had gotten married in two lifetimes. He didn't feel sleepy at all. He just felt that time was passing too slowly. Why hadn't his Xia Xia come to pick him up yet?
Since it was a marriage into the wife's family, the situation was not exactly the same as that of an ordinary boy getting married. At least she didn't have to be carried out by her brother or younger brother, nor did she have to cover her head with a veil. So far, Xia Yanjing felt it was acceptable.
Standing in front of the bronze mirror, Xia Yanjing looked at his refreshed self. It was true that clothes make the man. Although he was not a stunningly handsome man, he was still a tall and long-legged handsome young man.
After a long wait, Xia Yanjing was drowsy with his head supported. Suddenly, he heard bursts of noisy sounds outside the house. Xia Yanjing instantly became alert. It must be Shengxia coming.
The first person to come in was Xifu, who said auspicious words without asking for money. Next came Shengxia. In the Wei Dynasty, there was no such thing as blocking the door.
Shengxia's shoulders were straight, making the figure outlined by her wedding dress look even more upright and sturdy. Her neckline was slightly open, revealing a sharp line, and her jawline was just right, giving her a restrained and heroic air.
His black hair was tied up with a jade crown. When he looked over, his eyebrows were slightly raised, and there was a hint of a smile on his lips. He had the handsomeness and liveliness of a young man, but also a calm demeanor.
He walked slowly, the hem of his wedding gown brushing the ground with his movements, without a trace of drag. The red silk trailed on the ground, highlighting his handsome complexion. Although red is the most eye-catching color, on him, it only made his eyebrows and eyes appear more profound, his nose straighter, and even the faint red on the tips of his ears, brought on by the heat, added a touch of indescribable allure.
It was just an ordinary step, but he walked with a sense of calm nobility, a bit of youthful clarity, and mixed with the warmth of the wedding dress, Xia Yanjing felt that everything around him became empty, and only the midsummer was clear.
"The auspicious time has arrived, and the groom has left." As the husband's voice fell, Xia Yanjing came to his senses.
The next moment, one end of the red silk was stuffed into Xia Yanjing's hand. Xia Yanjing looked along the red silk with the big red flower and saw that the other end was in Shengxia's hand. His hand was a healthy wheat color, with distinct knuckles, slender and strong, but not bony.
The hand was currently firmly grasping a large piece of red silk. The silk surface was smooth and was gently rubbed by the fingertips, revealing tiny wrinkles.
The fiery red silk wrapped around his palm made the wheat color look even more mellow, like fertile soil wrapped around a ball of fire. It had a sense of power, but also revealed an indescribable tenderness - as if the red silk was not being held, but being properly protected in the palm of his hand.
Shengxia came closer and whispered, "Don't be afraid, just follow me closely."
Shengxia saw that Xia Yanjing was confused and thought that Xia Yanjing was a bastard, and was a little restrained and afraid because he rarely faced such a scene, so she comforted him kindly.
"Okay." Xia Yanjing replied softly, as if that single word carried all his emotions and determination. He slowly tightened the red silk in his hands, which was as hot and bright as midsummer.
The two of them slowly walked to the door, only to see that the door was already surrounded by a crowd of people, and the people who came to watch the excitement seemed to have packed the door completely.
Sheng Xia smiled slightly and said softly, "Mr. Xia, I'm afraid I'll have to inconvenience you by having you ride in the bridal sedan today."
Xia Yanjing's lips curled up slightly. In his red clothes, he looked particularly handsome under the sunlight. After hearing Shengxia's words, he smiled brightly. His voice was low and gentle: "It's not a grievance. I am happy with it."
Shengxia looked at Xia Yanjing's smile and felt that the smile was as bright as the sun, as if it could dispel the summer heat.
His words echoed in Shengxia's ears, "I'm happy with it." These four words hit Shengxia's heart like a heavy hammer, making him a little dazed for a moment, wondering if he had heard it wrong.
Xia Langjun today seemed a little different from usual. His smile revealed a kind of confidence and satisfaction, making him radiate a dazzling light.
Shengxia couldn't help but be stunned. He had never thought that Xia Yanjing would say such words, let alone that he would accept all this so willingly.
Just when Shengxia was stunned, Xia Yanjing had already obediently sat in the sedan chair. The red curtain of the sedan chair fluttered in the wind, which made Shengxia feel itchy.
Seeing that Shengxia was still in a daze, Ye Zi, who was standing by, quickly reminded him softly, "Young Master, it's time to set off." Shengxia finally came to his senses. He took a deep breath, calmed himself down, then turned over neatly and jumped steadily onto the horse's back.
Following Shengxia's actions, the people around him also consciously made way for him.
Xia Yanjing sat in the sedan and felt that it was not a place for humans to sit. It was too bumpy to ride in, but he was willing to accept it no matter how bumpy it was.
Xia Yanjing could only make a rough estimate based on his own feeling. He had been sitting in this sedan for a long time, at least half an hour!
He couldn't help but start complaining, "What on earth are these people thinking? Just get married, why do we have to go through such a long, long way? This sedan is so wobbly, it's almost shaking my butt off!"
Just when he felt like he was about to vomit, the sedan suddenly stopped and then slowly landed on the ground. At that moment, Xia Yanjing felt as if he had returned from hell to the human world. The feeling of being grounded was so good!
