Chapter 40
Chapter 40
Ji Yuan made soft and glutinous snacks with tea leaves. They have tea flavor and are sweet to eat. Mr. Fang likes them very much.
This apprentice of mine is a first-class dim sum craftsman and always takes care of his spleen and stomach.
Even the desserts use less sugar, but the taste is just right.
This made Mr. Fang, who loves sweets, like it even more.
Today is the monthly exam, and school always ends early in the afternoon. Ji Yuan uses this time to make snacks for Master Fang.
But today, Master Fang asked him to wait: "Ji Yuan, how long have you been practicing calligraphy?"
how long?
Ji Yuan calculated that from late January last year to the end of April this year, a year and two months have passed.
Time flies by so fast.
Master Fang nodded and said, "I told you before that when your calligraphy is good enough, I will teach you how to paint."
"I asked you to practice calligraphy a few days ago. Do you find it difficult?"
Mr. Fang was just asking casually. In his opinion, painting and writing are just fun, so how could they be tiring?
Fortunately, he was speaking in front of Ji Yuan. If it were any other student, he would probably have complained bitterly.
How can drawing and writing be considered playing?
Master Fang looked at the calligraphy that Ji Yuan had been practicing recently and nodded slightly.
That’s the beginning.
In this case, painting can also be taught.
It's so hard to meet a student who suits my taste, and I would be doing a disservice to him by not teaching him.
"Fortunately, the students also bought some paints. I don't know if they are suitable." Ji Yuan told Master Fang about the paints he bought, only to see Master Fang shaking his head.
"We won't need it for now. When we learn landscape painting, we can just use ink and wash first." said Mr. Fang.
Speaking of which, the decision to learn painting this year was made last year.
Last year, Ji Yuan was still worried about paint, but he didn’t expect that he wouldn’t need it for the time being.
Just don't use it. The money he has is really not enough to buy much paint.
No wonder people say studying art is expensive.
And even if you don't use paint, buying rice paper is still an expense.
Fortunately, he still has some assets.
I only heard Master Fang introduce: "Chinese landscape paintings can be roughly divided into two categories."
As he spoke, Master Fang casually drew a landscape painting with a refined and elegant style: "This is the Southern School."
“Because the regions are different, the paintings produced are also different.”
"In the south, especially in the Jiangnan area, the land is fertile and the climate is humid, so this place gives people a feeling of lush vegetation."
“And most of the paintings created in such places have the same style.”
Different soils can not only grow different crops.
Even people’s personalities and customs can be very different.
This has a lot to do with the region.
In other words, oranges grown in the south of the Huai River are oranges, while oranges grown in the north of the Huai River are tangerines.
The same goes for paintings.
Different customs and practices, but the paintings are the same.
Ji Yuan thought of what Dr. Luo said, that the writings of students from the southern and northern schools were different, but he didn’t expect that the same was true for their paintings.
It is understandable that among the many teachers in the county school, the one who represents the Southern School is naturally Dr. Yin, the Doctor of Rites. His personality is very different from that of Dr. Luo, the typical Northern School.
Ji Yuan was distracted for a moment in his thoughts, then returned to his painting.
The southern-style paintings created by Mr. Fang have a sense of simplicity, innocence, delicacy and elegance.
To put it in a metaphor, it's like a spring breeze.
Mr. Fang added a few more strokes and felt that the vegetation in the painting was lush and colorful, and it really had the style of the Jiangnan region.
This is the benefit of Ji Yuan’s extensive knowledge and experience in his previous life.
Although I have never been to Jiangnan myself, I have an impression of its scenery in my mind.
If a student who has never been to Jiangnan came here, he probably wouldn't be able to tell what style this is.
Not only the scenery of Jiangnan.
When talking about the scenery of the Northwest, the desert, and even the sea that many people have never seen in their lives, Ji Yuan can all leave some impression.
The ancients said that reading ten thousand books is like traveling ten thousand miles, which means that you should combine what you read with the scenery you see.
Ancient people did not have the opportunity to sit at home and enjoy the beautiful scenery of mountains and rivers.
China has all the landforms in the world, and Ji Yuan has naturally seen them all.
Just based on this point, Jiyuan is far ahead of others in terms of local landscape.
It is estimated that Ji Yuan and Master Fang have no idea how much advantage these impressions of local customs will bring to their future painting studies.
People cannot describe a scenery they have never seen, let alone paint it.
Ji Yuan was fortunate to have seen the beautiful mountains and rivers of his motherland.
"Graceful and beautiful, what a beautiful scenery of the Jiangnan region." Ji Yuan couldn't help but admire.
Master Fang looked at him and said, "How do you know Jiangnan is like this?"
Ji Yuan paused, it was not easy to say that he saw it on TV or in a documentary.
Even in later TV dramas, one can appreciate the beautiful scenery of the Jiangnan region.
Not to mention, he and his grandparents went to Suzhou to see the real garden scenery.
Ji Yuan said vaguely: "Dr. Luo has a catalog of famous paintings. I have read a lot of them."
"So that's how it is." Master Fang said, "If I have the chance, I must go and see it for myself."
"The mist and rain are so beautiful. My southern paintings have improved there."
Nowadays, people generally talk about the Southern School, but in fact there are also subdivisions within the Southern School. Master Fang traveled all over the south of the Yangtze River before he was able to get to know one or two of them.
Ji Yuan looked at him and thought that Master Fang was a Southern school master, but he didn't expect that Master Fang would pull out another piece of rice paper.
Master Fang said, "We are in the north, and there is no environment for studying the southern style. The northern style of landscape painting is more suitable for you now."
“The northern style of landscape painting is naturally related to the northern climate.”
“Dryness and sandstorms are the characteristics of the northern landscape, and the people of the northern style are mostly bold and straightforward, and their paintings also have these characteristics.”
With a wave of his hand, Master Fang drew powerful and solid rocks on the paper.
The majestic momentum of the mountain and the flying spring can be seen at a glance.
The outlines of the rocks here are clear, without any of the softness just now, and even the brushwork is bold and open.
"Ink-and-wash landscape painting, as the name suggests, is a painting made with water and ink."
"But the key point is the water. How to use water and how to mix ink are also the basis of painting."
"Some people say that the first person to paint in ink was Wang Wei in the Tang Dynasty. He was taught by Li Sixun and also studied by Wu Daozi. His style is pure and simple, and his aesthetics are extraordinary."
When it comes to painting, Mr. Fang is no longer as silent as before, but talks incessantly.
The great poet Wang Wei is well known to the Chinese people. It is said that in his works there are paintings in poetry and poems in paintings.
The combination of poetry and painting, ink painting, best represents the style of literati painting.
Therefore, this is also the best choice for beginners of Chinese painting.
It was not until nearly the hour of Xu that Ji Yuan left Master Fang's place, his mind full of painting.
Ink painting shows the skill of the brush. According to Master Fang, "If you can do good ink painting, your calligraphy will surely improve again."
In other words, the two complement each other. The old man let him start learning painting, and he could also practice calligraphy at the same time.
After all, what is tested is the skill of the brush tip and the mastery of the brush.
After leaving Zunjing Pavilion, Ji Yuan first went to the kitchen to get the snacks he had made.
When making snacks for Mr. Fang, I naturally would not forget Dr. Luo.
The tea-flavored pastries I made this time were also inspired by Dr. Luo’s taste.
Seeing that Ji Yuan was so understanding, Dr. Luo no longer pretended to be stern, but still put the test paper in front of him.
"Come on, take the Spring and Autumn Annals test."
I took the monthly exam for the big class in the afternoon.
Now let’s continue with the monthly exam for small classes.
Ji Yuan quickly organized his thoughts, cleared his mind of distractions, and answered the questions seriously.
Dr. Luo was eating cakes nearby and found a few hidden painting books in his study.
If you want to learn painting, you must learn it well.
Dr. Luo's students cannot be good at only one thing.
Reading more painting books can also improve your aesthetic taste.
As Mr. Fang said, the styles of each place are different, and the painting albums collected by Dr. Luo here are mostly in the northern style.
It seems that if Ji Yuan wants to learn the Southern style, he can only do so by going to Jiangnan.
I don’t know when that was.
An hour later, the monthly exam for the small class was over.
The results of the big class exam came out very quickly.
The small class was faster, so Dr. Luo asked Ji Yuan to sit down and wait while he corrected the test papers immediately.
There is nothing wrong in memorizing Moduo, Ji Yuan has always been concerned about this.
He has a good memory. He can memorize something that others have recited several times after just two or three times. Looking at Dr. Luo's satisfied expression, I know that he has no problem memorizing.
The Spring and Autumn Annals are in line with the views of beginners.
"It's passed." Dr. Luo subconsciously reached out to take the snack, only to find the plate was empty. Seeing that Ji Yuan was listening to him seriously and didn't notice his movements, he quietly withdrew his hand.
"Okay, go back. There will be no homework today."
Ji Yuan left Dr. Luo's house with a few more books in his hand.
Half of them are classics related to the Book of Rites recommended by Dr. Yin, and the other half are several painting books.
These are what he needs to learn this year.
Consolidate the knowledge of "Book of Rites" and learn the basics of ink painting.
There is also the new study of "Spring and Autumn Annals".
The four basic books.
Days like this are fulfilling and happy.
This is what it felt like for ancient scholars to study the Four Books and Five Classics while practicing calligraphy and painting.
Especially in painting, Ji Yuan learned a lot of fun from it. Sometimes, one can see the different personality of a painter from his paintings.
Mr. Fang's brushwork in painting amazed Ji Yuan even more.
Moreover, when he was young, he traveled to various places in the south of the Yangtze River, various places in the northwest, and all over the country of Tianqi, and finally acquired excellent painting skills.
Before, Ji Yuan felt that Master Fang’s calligraphy was top-notch no matter where it was placed.
At the beginning, Ji Yuan thought that he had seen too little.
But after seeing many calligraphy works by famous calligraphers from Dr. Luo, he became more certain that Master Fang was definitely extraordinary.
When Dr. Luo mentioned Master Fang, his attitude was also different. He heard that Master Fang was a scholar, but it did not prevent him from being a teacher, and everyone was respectful to him.
When I look at Mr. Fang’s paintings today, I can see that he combines both the southern and northern styles with ease.
With such skills, he must not be an ordinary person.
It is already very impressive that their Zhengrong County School has two Juren dedicated to teaching.
With the addition of Mr. Fang, he becomes a hidden boss.
Judging from the instructor's words, it seems that he is in line with Mr. Fang's mood.
Although Ji Yuan was curious, he had no intention of snooping until Master Fang told him.
It’s just that after studying with Mr. Fang for a long time, Mr. Fang himself said something: “When I was young, I traveled all over the country, just to learn calligraphy and painting.”
"I also thought about taking the imperial examination, but I was always impatient. In the end, I passed the examination and became a scholar in the prefecture. I was really tired of those mundane affairs, so I left the prefecture the year after I passed the examination."
"I traveled all the way, and when I looked back, I found that my parents had passed away and I was old, so I found a quiet place to live in seclusion."
"When I came to Zhengrong County School, there was basically no one here, let alone studying. It was so quiet."
Although Mr. Fang said it simply, Ji Yuan heard something from it.
It is said that a poor family brings rich travels. If one can travel all over the country when he is young, his family background must be rich.
Or maybe he could sell paintings along the way, which is quite possible.
If this is the case, it means that Mr. Fang’s reputation must be extraordinary.
No matter from which perspective, Ji Yuan felt that his teacher was very different.
Mr. Fang nodded at him and said, "Don't think about it. When you become a master painter, you will know who I am."
Ji Yuan said embarrassedly: “I just thought that with your paintings, you must be very famous.”
"Need I say that? Think back to the past." Before Mr. Fang finished speaking, he shut up and shook his head, saying, "Draw yours."
After a while, Mr. Fang seemed to think of something, shook his head and said: "Officialdom is difficult, official career is difficult, cherish the time you have in the county school now."
No matter how the outside world changes, Zhengrong County School provides great shelter for the students here. In modern terms, this is an ivory tower.
They don’t need to pay attention to the disturbances outside. They just need to study here. The only thing they compete with is studying.
But outside the county school, the situation is quite different.
In other words, it is different outside of Zhengrong County School.
Let me tell you something no one else knows.
When I took the county school entrance exam the year before last, the results were delayed in coming out, and outsiders thought it was a surprise, thinking that the county school had delayed the announcement of the results.
Only the government offices and county school teachers knew what they had gone through to achieve this result.
If Mr. Zhao’s good friend Mr. Huang had not told him the truth in the letter, Ji Yuan would not have known it.
From his perspective, it was just a common case of the results being released late.
For example, the Zhang family in the county town had played tricks on Qian Fei many times, and he and Qian Fei and Li Ting dealt with them.
If they were not students of the county school, the other party would definitely not be so relieved so easily.
This relatively free world is indeed rare.
Mr. Fang is over sixty years old this year, and I think he has a very rich life experience.
He is good at calligraphy and painting, but he is willing to be a guard in Zunjing Pavilion. His mentality is admirable.
Ji Yuan calmed down again, holding the pen in his right hand, and practiced seriously with Master Fang.
Keep your mind calm and take things slow.
With every stroke, I indulge myself in ink and wash.
Quiet and inaction, untainted by worldly affairs, painted in ink and wash.
Ink painting.
This is a literati painting.
Every stroke of Ji Yuan's calligraphy already carries the spirit of a scholar.
-
On the first day of May, sacrifices are offered to the Confucian Temple as usual.
Ji Yuan also returned the book that Dr. Yin had lent him.
Dr. Luo didn't have this book, but Dr. Yin said he had to read it, so he asked Dr. Luo to bring the book to him.
Ji Yuan was grateful, and after quickly copying a book, he naturally returned it in person.
Dr. Yin was waiting to go to the second-class classroom for class. He ignored Ji Yuan's thanks and said, "We are both teacher and student. Why be polite?"
It feels like it is natural for a teacher to teach his students.
No wonder people say that Dr. Yin is a natural born teacher.
But Dr. Yin paused and said, "If you really want to thank me, next time when you make snacks for Mr. Fang and Dr. Luo, don't forget Dr. Yin."
It’s all because of those two people who kept talking about how good Ji Yuan was at making dim sum.
They are all masters, why doesn’t he have one?
Now it was Ji Yuan who was stunned.
ah?
You should have said this earlier.
Ji Yuan nodded quickly, and Dr. Yin patted him on the shoulder: "Go to class. If you have it, send it. If not, forget it."
Ji Yuan heaved a sigh of relief when he realized that Dr. Yin was joking with him.
However, on the way back to Bingdeng Hall, he ran into a skinny scholar.
The man was wearing a green robe, so one could tell at a glance that he was a scholar.
He walked unsteadily, and Ji Yuan was in a hurry to go to class and accidentally bumped into him.
When Ji Yuan greeted him, the scholar actually said, "Little boy, do you know how to be polite? What are you called? I will definitely tell your teacher."
Li Ting and Qian Fei, who were following nearby, looked at each other in bewilderment.
Looking at this scholar again, I don’t recognize him at all.
Since he is not a scholar in their first-class hall, he is not a teacher here.
Ji Yuan said: "Student Ji Yuan, please forgive me, Mr. Scholar."
"era?!"
"You are Ji Yuan?!"
Ji Yuan had heard this so many times that his ears were almost callused.
So the meaning of the words is easy to discern.
Some people were simply surprised.
Some people looked at it with curiosity.
Some people also have sour and vinegar in their voices.
The scholar in front of me is obviously this one.
"I am An Xiaohe's uncle." Uncle Xiaohe raised his chin and looked at Ji Yuan again.
Seeing that he was so young, his clothes had patches on them, and had to be altered several times because they were too small, she looked down on him even more.
"I thought you were the top student in the county and you were quite useful, but I didn't expect that your relationship with the masters and doctors was just average."
Li Ting and Qian Fei were shocked.
Does Ji Yuan have an average relationship with Dr. Fuzi?
He is the teachers' favorite student, no doubt about it!
Ji Yuan knew what was going on.
But even if you have a good relationship with the teachers, you can't ask them to find teachers for your school.
Just like you always got the first place in exams in your junior high school.
Does this mean I can interfere in the school’s personnel arrangements?
This is a joke.
Ji Yuan nodded: "Uncle Xiaohe, please go ahead and do your work. We still have classes to attend."
Having said that, he took Li Tingqianfei and left.
On the way back, Ji Yuan told Li Tingqian Fei about the letter, and Li Tingqianfei was stunned: "How could someone dare to say such a thing?"
"Yeah, that's unreasonable."
“It seems like everything revolves around him.”
Ji Yuan thought of Madam An Er. Her family should revolve around Uncle Xiaohe in this way. It is normal to develop an egocentric mentality in such a family.
It is only natural that people who have nothing to do with him should become his stepping stones.
"Ignore him. Whether he can be our teacher depends on his ability."
In fact, An Xiaohe's uncle Li Yaozhong not only failed to become a teacher in the county school, but he couldn't even enter the first-class hall.
The teacher had a sharp eye and could tell the other person's personality and temper in the blink of an eye, so he politely declined Li Yaozhong's request.
The excuse is ready: there is no room for teachers in their county school.
As for the first-class hall?
You have to pass an exam to get in, not just anyone can come.
However, as a scholar, he is indeed qualified to enter the county school, but the quota is now full, so he will have to wait until a vacancy opens.
After all the arrangements, Li Yaozhong only took the salary that the scholar deserved and left.
What happened next was told by An Xiaohe.
An Xiaohe said that his uncle was indeed very angry.
He said that he was treated so coldly after returning from the provincial school, and he seemed to have written a few poems, seeming to complain about the unfairness of fate.
But it was not well-written and was not widely circulated.
Now his uncle lives in his house, saying that he is helping him and other children of the An family with their homework.
This, isn't this just staying at my sister's husband's house?
Yes, Uncle An’s family is known as the wealthy An family, so naturally they live an easy life, at least more comfortably than myself.
Not to mention that the silage materials allowed his family to renovate the gate of the yard, which looks very grand.
But no matter what, it is still outrageous to live in your sister's husband's house.
An Xiaohe probably meant that his uncle wanted to be a private tutor in Uncle An's house, which would be considered their own private school.
But Uncle An ignored this completely, not to mention that he respected Master Zhao more.
Besides, his family also has a husband? Does he have a lot of money to burn?
Even though he has a lot of students, his family doesn't have many.
However, considering Uncle Xiaohe's status as a scholar, it is not easy to chase him away.
I found these gossips funny, but I didn’t take them seriously. I just treated them as a pastime after dinner.
He had just bought some rice paper, and he did not find the practice of calligraphy and painting lines boring, but instead found fun in it.
As the masters of calligraphy and painting said: "Stones are like flying white, wood is like Zhuan, and bamboo is written in the eight methods. If someone can understand this, then he will know that calligraphy and painting are essentially the same."
This arrangement emphasizes the art of pen, ink and lines, from which one can better appreciate the feeling of "freehand brushwork".
The strokes, the colors, the structure.
There seems to be a unique rhythm between the words and between the lines.
Only after learning painting did I realize that it is no wonder that people say calligraphy and painting have the same origin.
No wonder Mr. Fang said that one should learn calligraphy first and then practice painting, and then the painting skills will help with writing and form one's own style.
This is probably what it means to incorporate calligraphy into painting.
Paint the height, distance, and turning points of the mountains and rocks.
It has the same effect as the pauses and pauses in writing.
As the era progressed, the masters saw things more clearly.
Judging from the assignments he submitted recently, Ji Yuan's writing skills have improved rapidly.
He is diligent in practice and has an excellent foundation.
Now there are many different techniques, and the art of calligraphy has already been learned.
It's so rare for a ten-year-old to have such beautiful handwriting.
Master Fang looked at it and also felt the wind under his feet.
Look at his students, how amazing they are.
When practicing calligraphy and painting in Ji Yuan, I can't help but think of the "Book of Rites" and "Spring and Autumn Annals" that I am learning now.
Calligraphy and painting can complement each other.
What about these two classic books?
If they confirm each other, can we come to different conclusions?
In the monthly exam at the end of April, Ji Yuan wrote □□ to verify the two, which can be said to be done subconsciously.
After realizing this, the monthly exam in May was intentionally combined.
Use the views of the Book of Rites to support the Spring and Autumn Annals.
The two compare and complement each other, thus obtaining unique viewpoints and articles.
The article written during the monthly exam was written in a very refreshing way.
After the exam, I immediately went back to review the other three classics I learned last year.
His actions attracted the attention of other students.
Ji Yuan has long become a weather vane for the C-class Hall. Whatever he does, everyone is willing to imitate him.
He was a little embarrassed at first, but seeing that Ji Yuan didn't mind, he now openly regards Ji Yuan as a role model.
Seeing him flipping through the three classics he learned last year, he quickly asked, "Ji Yuan, why are you flipping through last year's books?"
Ji Yuan looked at them with excitement in his eyes: "Do you remember last year's "Book of Shang: Song of the Five Sons"?"
Everyone will naturally remember it.
The Book of Documents does not contain many words, but it is obscure and difficult to understand. To be honest, it is not as easy to learn as the Book of Rites.
This is naturally because the Book of Shang was written earlier.
So it’s more difficult to understand.
Among them, the Song of the Five Sons was a song in which Yi asked the king's five younger brothers to compose songs to criticize their elder brother Taikang.
This article is divided into six sections.
The first paragraph tells everyone the reason for writing the song.
As a monarch, Taikang did not follow the tradition of his father, the founding monarch of the Xia Dynasty. He became the emperor but ignored state affairs, thus losing the virtue of a monarch.
So Yi found an opportunity to let Taikang's brothers criticize him for his inaction.
The next five paragraphs are about the five younger brothers criticizing Taikang from different perspectives.
It means "People are the foundation of a country, and a country will be peaceful if its foundation is strong."
Only when the people are well off can the country be at peace.
It has always been said that we must remember the lessons of history so that our ancestral legacy can be passed on.
It also means to do one's job well.
This can be verified with the "Book of Rites: Questions of Duke Ai" that we are studying today.
Duke Ai of Lu asked Confucius two questions: one about ritual and the other about politics.
Confucius also replied that the most important thing for people’s survival is ritual.
That is to say, people rely on etiquette for survival, and etiquette is the most important.
What is said later is that only by observing etiquette can we distinguish the relationships between the ruler and his subjects, superiors and subordinates, the old and the young, men and women, fathers and sons, and brothers.
Using etiquette to determine one's position also emphasizes that everyone should do their own job well.
For today's test, it is feasible to use the chapters of "Shangshu" to verify the chapters of "Book of Rites".
The rulers of the Xia State must govern their country within their proper position.
Doesn’t this prove the importance of “ritual”?
In fact, this view is not new, nor is it unique to Jiyuan.
But he realized the true meaning of reading through calligraphy and painting, and realized that all books are interconnected.
Once you understand one thing, you will understand everything.
This kind of situation is already the era of studying, slowly exploring your own path.
This path may be difficult, or may not be correct enough.
But being able to form your own cognition is already valuable.
The two classics can be connected.
The Five Classics are naturally acceptable as well.
The theories of the Four Books can also be integrated.
This is completely different from modern subjects. It is not like a mountain between two different fields. Instead, truly understanding and grasping the knowledge is the essence of learning.
For example.
In the past, reading a book was just a book.
Ten books, that is, ten separate books.
Now, not only can people read Epoch Times, but they can also debate and discuss each other’s viewpoints in their minds.
There is mutual communication between books and between knowledge.
I learned one plus one, and then I learned multiplication.
It was originally a separate formula.
Now they can be combined to calculate more complex problems.
To flip through books means to look up what you learned last year and compare it with what you learned this year.
No wonder he studied the Book of Rites and was willing to tutor him in the Spring and Autumn Annals in private.
It’s simply because these courses are all the same. Not only do they not interfere with each other, they can obviously complement each other.
I think, if the county school was not afraid that they would find it difficult to learn, it would be willing to teach both parts of knowledge at the same time.
Ji Yuan explained it in detail, and most of the students seemed to be enlightened.
yes.
You shouldn't forget all the knowledge you've learned in the past, and when answering questions, you shouldn't just look for the answers in the original book.
No wonder their articles are always said to be not comprehensive enough.
But how to integrate this knowledge?
What to do if the fusion is too messy?
Everyone fell into thought.
But this kind of thinking is already advanced thinking.
When instructor Yan was on patrol, he found that the students in Class C were all in a daze, all of them were deep in thought, which scared him so much that he hurried over.
I could only hear the students flipping through books, sometimes reciting the Book of Rites, sometimes reciting the Book of Changes, and sometimes complaining that this chapter of the Book of History was too difficult.
It’s just an exam every month.
What's wrong with everyone.
It’s not like I haven’t taken the exam before.
Or is today's question too difficult?
Instructor Yan called over Master Guo and two doctors of the Book of Rites.
The four people listened carefully and finally didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
They naturally knew the students' problems, but this was not the time to point them out.
When they enter the B-level class and study the articles thoroughly, they will understand.
He hasn't finished learning the Five Classics, but he has just touched the threshold of learning. No wonder his eyes are dull. He must be thinking seriously.
"Let them think about it." Dr. Yin said with a smile, "Our students are well-educated and will figure it out."
Learning without thinking is useless. Before, you were just learning, but now you start thinking.
Not bad, very good.
Dr. Yin looked at the middle era and listened to the students' lively discussions.
It reminded me of my time in school, but they didn't have a classmate as smart as Ji Yuan.
Studying with classmates like this, it’s no wonder that my grades improved.
Back to the painting, Ji Yuan seemed to be more adept when practicing lines.
So this is what literati painting means.
No matter what others think, that's what he thinks.
This discussion in the Bingdeng Hall caused their articles to become quite confusing for a while, but fortunately everyone gradually found their own style, and the subsequent progress was rapid.
When the news reached the ears of the students in Grade B class, they held on to their books tightly.
What's wrong with you fellow students?
Have you realized it now?
Can you realize it in Class C Hall?
They must take part in the county examination as soon as possible and absolutely cannot take the examination together with the group from Class C.
Otherwise, you won’t be able to pass the exam as well as them.
Being in the same class with a bunch of top students, it is inevitable to feel that if there is Yu, there will be no Liang!
Especially the era!
They have to take the county exam before Ji Yuan!
Take the test immediately!
The time left for them in the era is running out!
Learn quickly!
Take the test quickly!
Cai Fenglan silently said: "I told you that he is Ji Yuan, but you still don't believe it."
May has passed and June is still scorching hot.
Students in the county school are still working hard.
Ji Yuan looked at the sun outside. Fortunately, his palms were not sweaty, so he would not damage the book when turning the pages.
The weather turns cooler in July and the days pass faster and faster.
Ji Yuan also learned from Dr. Luo that he could take part in the entrance examination at the end of the year.
But there is a condition.
That is the annual exam at the end of the year, and you must still be first.
If you are not the first, you will not be eligible to participate in the examination.
After all, according to the rules of the county school, one can be promoted to the second-grade hall only after completing the study of the Five Classics.
Although Ji Yuan learned it, it was apparently self-taught.
If other students also say that they have studied on their own and must take the assessment, should you agree or not?
If we don’t agree, it would be like opening a backdoor specifically for Jiyuan.
If we agree, then if everyone rushes to take the exam, what's the difference between that and the annual exam?
The teacher simply made this rule.
Even if one has not completed the Five Classics study in the county school, if one can get first place in the annual examination, one is eligible to take the examination for the imperial court.
This is not only the case this year, but will be the case every year.
Everyone will be convinced.
Only those who ranked first in the annual exam are eligible to participate, which is a restriction.
Ji Yuan was grateful and naturally studied harder.
Dr. Luo submitted his reading reflections one by one, and they had already formed a thick pile.
Dr. Luo asked him to bind the manuscript himself and wait until the end of the year to review his own reflections and see if he could come up with any new ideas.
Mr. Fang then began to let him practice the basic painting techniques.
This is somewhat different from the previous lines, as if it goes a step further and makes the previous rough lines more delicate.
Nowadays it is different from calligraphy.
First of all, it’s the brushwork, which Ji Yuan has already mastered.
Dotting, hooking, dyeing, picking, sweeping, etc. are considered basic pen techniques.
Next is the use of ink.
I mentioned before that in landscape painting, the use of ink is extremely particular.
Using ink is also using water, and the blending of water and ink is the key to painting.
Whether it is thick or thin, clear or turbid, there are rules to follow.
However, the use of ink is difficult to teach; it is more of a feeling. The quality of a painting depends largely on the quality of the ink.
What kind of picture and what kind of ink to use is also a very profound knowledge.
Just this one point is enough for many people to learn for a lifetime.
Use colors to color and apply brushwork.
It can only be gradually understood by the painter.
Master Fang said, "I have said so much to you, but it is not to scare you."
“No matter how profound the truth is, just like practicing calligraphy, you need to practice first before you learn.”
What you learn from books is always superficial. You have to practice it yourself to truly understand it.
Master Fang’s teaching method is somewhat different from that of other masters.
The traditional way of learning does not talk about methods, but focuses more on "the skill lies outside the painting".
This "outside the painting" refers to other things of literati and elegant people, culture, philosophy, history, music, seal carving, etc.
Let students feel the artistic conception first, so that they can write with inspiration.
Mr. Fang’s method requires on-site observation.
Start from every blade of grass and every tree, from every flower and every stone.
Ji Yuan thought that this sounded more like the Western academic school of his time.
Focus on analysis and system.
Everyone wants to learn freehand landscape painting, but it is difficult to achieve anything unless you reach that level.
Master Fang personally traveled all over the country to practice his painting skills in specific environments.
After talking about the characteristics, Mr. Fang took out a copy of "Traveling in Mountains and Rivers", which is a typical Song Dynasty Northern School landscape painting.
The features of the mountains and rocks are very much of the Northern style; they are masculine and steep, which is also reflected in the painting.
When Ji Yuan looked at it, he thought of the mountains behind Anji Village and indeed had this feeling.
Not only that, the many northern mountains that I climbed in my previous life and the towering mountains I saw on TV have all become concrete in my mind.
Just like when he takes out a painting of the Southern School, he can also think of the gentle and beautiful scenery of the mountains and rocks in the south of the Yangtze River.
After looking at several paintings of different schools, Master Fang did not let him practice, but took out a picture of pine and cypress.
There are many pines, cypresses, camphor trees, elms, willows and bamboos in the north, and the ones in this painting are pine and bamboo.
Master Fang said, "Trees have a constant state, but stones have no constant shape. Let's start practicing with trees first."
Then he pointed to the bamboo in the Sutra Pavilion and said, "Go and draw it."
Draw bamboo.
Observe the shape of the bamboo, see its characteristics, and understand the different forms of bamboo leaves at different times.
What do newly grown leaves look like?
What does the leaves look like when they grow longer.
When it rains, when it is sunny, when it is cloudy, when you are healthy, when you are sick.
Only by observing day after day can you draw a bamboo leaf well.
Ji Yuan nodded, spread out the rice paper, carefully mixed the ink, and started practicing.
Let’s start with this bamboo leaf.
Throughout the autumn, Ji Yuan was basically immersed in ink.
When mixing water and ink, it feels like adding water if there is not enough water, and adding ink if there is too much ink.
Fortunately, schoolwork and calligraphy practice do not care about the thickness of the ink. If it is not adjusted correctly, just treat it as calligraphy practice.
Li Ting and Qian Fei didn't grind ink for half a month and had to rely on Ji Yuan's incorrectly mixed ink to do his homework.
A month has passed since I finally got the color right.
The various shapes of bamboo leaves painted are also amazing.
Although landscape painting emphasizes artistic conception, its details cannot be ignored.
If someone says that it doesn’t matter if they look similar in spirit but not in appearance.
But everyone is similar in spirit and form, it’s just that the methods of processing are different.
If you put the cart before the horse, Master Fang will be so angry that he will blow his beard and glare.
It's like if someone says that the one who writes sloppily is cursive, the calligraphy teacher will be so angry that he will flick his head.
The days go by.
The books Ji Yuan had read and the paper he had practiced on became thicker and thicker day by day.
The fat owner of the bookstore said that Ji Yuan’s diligence in practicing calligraphy was something he had never seen before.
After all, pens, ink, paper and inkstone need to be delivered every few days, and they are used like running water.
After using countless strokes of the brush and ink, Ji Yuan finally painted a picture of bamboo in ink and wash.
The lines are simple, but a vibrant bamboo appears on the paper.
Anyone at a glance can tell that it is the bamboo next to the Zunjing Pavilion.
Why?
I can’t really explain it, but it looks like it.
Mr. Fang was naturally satisfied. His students painted such beautiful paintings, and as a teacher he was naturally happy.
Ji Yuan himself also breathed a sigh of relief.
After days of observation and practice, I finally have something to show for it.
His calligraphy also improved day by day as his painting skills improved.
Dr. Luo would praise the occasional beautiful handwriting.
Ji Yuan has already completed three-fifths of Dr. Luo's Spring and Autumn class.
This speed is not slow, mainly because Dr. Luo teaches in detail and he also uses many books to assist him on a daily basis.
Ji Yuan's studies in the Spring and Autumn Period can be described as very solid.
Ji Yuan calculated the time. It was almost August 15th, and he wanted to make some snacks for the teachers during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
After making tea-flavored pastries last time, although Mr. Fang and Dr. Luo liked them very much, they did not allow him to waste time and effort making them.
The snack looked extraordinary and must have taken a lot of effort to make.
It was fine in the past. Although the two teachers had not discussed it, they both told him not to work too hard.
Ji Yuan knew that the teachers were worried that he had too little rest time, so he accepted this kindness.
But this year the Mid-Autumn Festival coincided with the wheat harvest holiday, so he simply took advantage of the time to make some more food for the teachers.
Last time, Dr. Yin joked and said that he would take him with him when he made snacks.
Although it was just a joke, Dr. Yin also taught him a lot, and as a student he couldn't just ignore it.
Since it is Mid-Autumn Festival, we must make mooncakes.
Why not just make snow skin mooncakes, which are both fresh and in line with the season?
Ancient people had no idea about mooncakes being traditional or non-traditional, and they certainly didn’t say that ancestral rules couldn’t be changed.
Many literati and scholars are willing to spend their time and effort on this and figure out different things.
To make snow skin mooncakes, ice is necessary.
Thinking that it was almost the end of the year and he still had income from silage, Ji Yuan asked Qian Fei's family to buy some ice for him and use Qian Fei's kitchen.
Glutinous rice flour, corn starch, sticky rice flour, milk, different fillings, and white sugar.
These materials are certainly not cheap.
Compared with the help Dr. Fuzi’s teachings gave me, it was nothing.
Ji Yuan took the time to make snow skin mooncakes, including one with bamboo leaf scent.
Finally, it was delivered to Mr. Fang before the holiday, and another copy was sent to Dr. Luo's home, and others were sent to Dr. Yin and Mr. Guo.
As for the teacher, I don’t know whether I should send it to him because of his thoughts on the era.
If you give it to someone, it will seem like you are trying to curry favor with them, and it will not be good if others see it.
If I don’t send it, I’d feel a little sorry.
Dr. Luo said directly: "Don't worry about him. If he wants to eat, he will come to us."
Having said that, Dr. Luo still asked Ji Yuan to give the things to him and he would help deliver them.
The constable who came to deliver Mid-Autumn Festival gifts to the yamen had just arrived at the Research and Study Office when he saw the teachers of the county school distributing snacks.
The constable said subconsciously: "Your county school must have hidden something. The snacks they made last time tasted great, and this time they look even better."
The last time they came to deliver the reward of Jiyuan’s healing cow, they all smelled a very pleasant fragrance. When they asked the instructor, he said there was none.
After returning that time, the two of them were obsessed with the relationship for a long time.
Don’t miss it this time!
Master Guo laughed: "Last time? We didn't know last time either."
But if you think about it, you will know that it was most likely done by Ji Yuan for Mr. Fang.
What could have made them both remember it for so long?
That was all last year.
Needless to say, the taste of the snow skin mooncakes is excellent. Although it is August now, the autumn heat is still strong. It tastes icy and cool, which is very comfortable when you take a bite.
The entire study center is filled with the milky aroma of snow skin mooncakes.
No wonder Mr. Fang likes the snacks made by Ji Yuan so much, they are really delicious.
It’s a pity that no one got to eat what he made before. Should I ask him to make some more later?
As soon as this thought came out, everyone shook their heads.
How can this be possible? Ji Yuan studies hard enough, we can’t let him get any more tired.
It's too hard for Jiyuan to balance studying and making snacks.
Dr. Luo didn't say anything, and everyone shut up and nodded in satisfaction.
No one can order his students around easily.
He will be angry with whoever sends him around at will!
Speaking of which, the snacks made by students are just delicious.
