Chapter 58 Lover = Hunter

Chapter 58 Lover = Hunter

The sound of raindrops fell on Irene's ears.

"So, considering that I have waited for my sister for so many years, can you please not leave me again?"

Leo touched Irene's brow with his lips, his voice low and gentle, as if it came from the distant horizon, with a bewitching charm.

Irene grabbed the collar of Leo's white shirt, looked up at the man in a daze, and couldn't help but continue to say what Leo said.

"good……"

"Miss," Hannah's voice suddenly sounded outside the door. She knocked on the door a few times and said loudly, "Mrs. Irin is here and is waiting for you in the living room! Let's go see her. I haven't seen her for two or three years."

Hannah interrupted, and Irene hurriedly let go of Leo's collar and replied loudly: "I'll be right out, wait for me."

There was a clanking sound of something being moved in the room. Hannah sat on the platform at the door skillfully. She glanced at James who looked extremely upset and smiled, "Don't be afraid. The lady is here to protect us. Leo can't do anything to you."

Of course it's easy for you to talk without any worries, but I don't even know your daughter, so who will protect me?

James slumped his shoulders, wanting to cry but without tears. He stomped out the cigarette he had just lit in annoyance, and said in a hurried tone, "Where did you come from, little ancestor? How did you get to the door in the blink of an eye? If you look like this, the boss will really skin me alive. I can't even guard the door."

Clearly, he had sealed all the dog holes in the house, but how could this little girl still find a chance to sneak in? James clenched his teeth tightly, feeling that what was flowing in his heart was not tears, but the blood dripping from his heart for not being able to get promoted.

When James thought about how he had ruined Leo's plans while he was in custody, he now wished he could just stab himself. The sooner he died, the sooner he would be reborn. It was better to end his life with a knife than to be tortured to death by the boss.

"You really want to know how I got in?" Hannah raised her eyebrows.

"I really do. I really want to."

I wanted to add an electric fence around all the walls of this house to specifically shock troublesome little brats like Hannah.

James looked at Hannah sincerely.

"Hey, hey," Hannah bared her big white teeth, "I won't tell you, so you guess. Doesn't your boss have everything in his hands? Let him guess."

"Guess what? Let me guess too," Irene asked first after pushing open the door. She was feeling very guilty, afraid that Hannah would ask her why she had been lingering in the room for so long.

Leo followed closely behind her, his face as black as the sacks of coal piled outside the kitchen door.

On the other hand, Irene looked very good with a smile on her face. She wore a simple brown dress and her long hair was tied up behind her head. It was a little cold on a rainy day, so she put on a plaid shawl commonly used by southern women, revealing her snow-white and slender neck, with a few strands of hair hanging down from her temples, dangling on her delicate collarbone.

The most noticeable thing was the relaxed and peaceful look on her face. She didn't have the panic and tired look that most people had after the war, like a frightened bird. Irene just stood there and naturally attracted the attention of the people around her.

James stupidly took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and was about to light it when he felt a sudden chill in his heart.

A colleague behind him pinched him hard, and James woke up as if from a dream, lowered his head and hastily put the cigarette box into his bag.

Cold sweat dripped from his forehead and he slowly blinked his stinging eyes.

"Nothing," Hannah stood up and opened the umbrella which was only big enough for two people.

She turned her head to look at Leo, her smile almost smug, "You are not very familiar with Madam Irin anyway, the young lady and I can just go and greet her, so you don't need to make the trip."

"It's okay, we'll go together," Leo said in a cold tone. He glanced at James who lowered his head, raised his hand and put it around Irene's waist, "Irene and I will share an umbrella, and you can hold one yourself."

"That's fine." Hannah was in a good mood because she had successfully ruined Leo's plan. Naturally, she didn't care about these small details.

Although she didn't know what good thing she had ruined, the worse Leo looked, the happier she was.

Hannah walked into the rain with a smile on her face.

"How dare you stare at the madam?" James' colleague, who had just pinched a cigarette, held the cigarette holder close to the flame and took a deep puff, followed by the spray of light blue smoke onto James' face.

James frowned in disgust, "I'm just shocked. I just didn't expect this woman to be so beautiful."

Less than two seconds after he finished speaking, he added: "Now that I think about it, she's just an average girl, nothing special."

As James spoke, his left hand subconsciously pressed on the gun at his waist, and his eyes showed a sense of caution.

"Humph," the man holding the cigarette sneered strangely, "You'd better think so."

After saying that, the man turned and walked towards the corner where he was supposed to be squatting. His voice echoed in the empty courtyard.

"Leo hates young kids like you, who are only 18 or 19 years old. If you know what's good for you, you should be transferred to another position."

"Don't bother Leo all the time." The man turned back before climbing the tree. The hideous scar at the corner of his mouth made his expression even weirder. "I don't know why he took in useless kids like you."

He raised the corners of his mouth and smiled sinisterly, "It would have been great if I had let you die in that village."

Hearing this, veins popped up on James' forehead, and his eyes were fierce, "No matter how useless I am, I am better than trash like you."

Now this house is not only occupied by Mrs. Soi's family. It seems that Leo has rebuilt many houses nearby and connected them with simple corridors. Many people live here, especially young boys and girls, many of whom look only eleven or twelve years old.

Irene stood next to Leo and received a lot of stares along the way. Most of the people patrolling the house were young men. They were fine and only dared to glance at Irene out of the corner of their eyes, and then exchanged a knowing smile.

Most of them were little girls who were packing clothes and straps. They were just passing by. At first, only one or two of them were met at the corner. They greeted Hannah with a smile, and then said a few words to Irene. The more lively ones even shook hands with Irene.

Each of them seemed to be particularly familiar with Hannah, and they all had a clear affinity for Irene.

But later, Irene saw several familiar faces bringing other little girls to talk to her. Some of them even came over to talk to her without saying hello to Hannah, and surrounded her like chirping little sparrows.

There was also a little girl who came to her in the rain with a big bouquet of wild flowers, and forced the flowers into her hands with a blushing face. Before Irene could ask why she gave her flowers, the girl ran away.

"What's going on?" Irene was at a loss, holding the flower. The tiny thorns on the flower were cleaned and wrapped in a handkerchief, and the fragrance was fragrant. "Why are they so enthusiastic about me?"

Hannah glanced at Leo subconsciously, and Irene followed her gaze and looked at Leo. I don't know if it was because she met too many strangers or because of the cold, Irene's voice was slightly trembling.

"What the hell is going on? Why are they looking at me in such a weird way?"

Leo tilted the umbrella a little more toward Irene and held Irene's fingertips with his other hand.

It wasn't cold, and she seemed to be sweating a little. Leo's brows relaxed, and he put his arm around Irene's shoulders, his fingertips loosely clasped on Irene's shoulder blades, showing a protective gesture, and explained briefly:

"Many of them lost their parents in the war, so I set up an institution similar to an orphanage in your name to take in these children."

Irene's eyes widened in surprise. "Why in my name? I didn't do anything. They should be thanking you. You've done so much, why are you pushing all the credit onto me?"

Leo tightened his fingers around Irene's shoulders slightly. He was silent for a moment and said, "Because some people say that doing good deeds can accumulate merits. If a lot of good deeds are done in your name, God will take my place and bless you in an era that I will never be able to go to."

"I can't find any other way to protect you except praying to God."

His tone was very calm, as if he was talking about something insignificant.

Irene's nose suddenly felt sore, and she subconsciously looked away from Leo, her eyes wandering around the corridor. The flowers in her arms seemed to suddenly become a thousand pounds heavy, so heavy that she could hardly hold them. She pulled up the corners of her lips and smiled, but the smile did not reach her eyes.

She was a timid person, and like all people who are timid about feelings, her first reaction when she received a precious gift was not excitement, but fear.

For example, now, Irene couldn't help but ask herself.

Does she deserve it? Does she really deserve Leo's deep affection?

The atmosphere in the corridor fell quietly.

Hannah was keenly aware that the atmosphere had become tense, and she laughed and said:

"Miss, you don't know, Leo is very superstitious. He knows a lot of wizards, even Taoist priests, sorcerers and monks from the East. I think there is no one in the whole United States who knows more metaphysical masters than him."

Hannah originally wanted to ease the atmosphere, but she didn't expect that after she said this, Irene became visibly silent, and even unconsciously fell back half a step, as if she was deliberately distancing herself from Leo.

Leo's eyes fell on a strand of long hair hanging from Irene's temple. He moved his fingers slightly, then curled them back patiently.

He knew that Irene was not trying to stay away from him on purpose. She was probably just thinking about something, so she fell behind. When she was thinking about something, she would walk much slower. Leo was aware of these little habits of hers.

Besides, if Erin really wanted to stay away from him, she wouldn't have slept with him.

A Scottish man's chastity is not so easy to obtain.

Leo's Adam's apple rolled clearly twice, and his expression was gloomy.

but……

That didn't stop him from thinking Irene was terrible.

Leo scraped his tongue across his fangs and then pressed it against his upper jaw, trying his best to resist the urge to bite Irene's neck and question her why she was always good at retreating.

Desire and reason competed to gain the upper hand, Leo closed his eyes patiently, and when he opened his eyes again, his light blue pupils were as quiet as the sea at night.

The bottom layer is turbulent, but the surface is peaceful.

Be patient, be reasonable, and give her enough space.

Don't be too anxious, or you'll scare the timid rabbit.

A qualified hunter must be good at approaching while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

When his prey is cornered, that is his feast.

Leo took off his coat and put it on Irene's shoulders.

"The wind is getting stronger. Be careful not to catch a cold. You just recovered not long ago."

Irene pursed her lips twice. She wanted to say something of thanks, but the words couldn't come out.

That wasn't what Leo wanted to hear.

She gently bit the soft flesh on her lower lip, not knowing what to say. After a long pause, she finally said, "The shawl is made of wool. It looks thin but it's quite thick. I'm not cold."

"Wool doesn't keep out the wind," Leo helped her hold up her collar. "You caught a cold and coughed so badly in the middle of the night a few days ago, don't you remember now?"

Irene's attention was successfully diverted by Leo's words. She looked at Leo suspiciously.

"How do you know I was coughing in the middle of the night for the past two days?"
