Chapter 190 Ending

While eating, Bai Xiaoyue talked to her mother about Li Xinru losing her child.

Mother Bai sighed and said:

“There are also cases of children being lost now, because of the family planning policy.”

If the first child is a girl, you can have another child.

If the second child is a daughter, many people will abandon the second daughter in hopes of having a son.

Bai Xiaoyue asked, "Mom, do we have them in our village too?"

Bai's mother: "Anyway, someone is throwing children at the village entrance. I don't know if they're from our village or not."

Bai Xiaoyue: "What about the children?"

Bai's mother said, "Some of them were taken in by families who couldn't have children, and those that no one wanted were sent to the government."

Bai Xiaoyue frowned: "These girls are so pitiful!"

She thought for a long time, wondering what she could do for these poor children.

Yan Ci disliked his wife being too worried:

"Wife, doesn't the garment factory keep 20% of its profits in the village?"

That money could raise many girls; let Uncle and Ye Jianguo worry about that.

Bai Xiaoyue thought for a moment and said, "Well, if no one else wants them, the factory will keep them."

I asked Wen Tong to take care of this matter; she's more suited for it.

When she went to talk to Wen Tong about this, Wen Tong immediately agreed.

Wen Tong: "Sister, this is a good thing. The factory is paying for He Panpan's tuition and living expenses. She comes to the factory to help out during her holidays, and she's incredibly capable."

Bai Xiaoyue exclaimed, "Panpan is such a good child! Grandma He is so lucky."

Wen Tong said with a grin:

"Sis, I called Lin Xiao and asked him to look into Li Xinru's situation for me. He called me back today."

Li Xinru has been married three times in Beijing, and now she's divorced again.

I heard it's because she can't have children that her husband's family doesn't want her anymore.

Bai Xiaoyue: "No wonder she came back looking for the child. I thought she had a change of heart, but she's just grasping at straws. She's still as selfish as ever."

Wen Tong said mysteriously, "Sister, I've also discovered a secret."

Bai Xiaoyue: "What secret?"

Wen Tong: "Panpan came to the factory to help out during her vacation. My mom treats her very well, which is very strange to me!"

My mom said that when Panpan was little, she caught a cold and almost didn't survive. It was only after Grandpa Cui took care of her for many years that she recovered.

On one occasion, they casually mentioned that Grandma He and her uncle went to see Grandpa Cui for Panpan's medical treatment on the first day of the Lunar New Year.

Bai Xiaoyue thought to herself, what's so special about the first day of the Lunar New Year? She wondered if it was something special to mention. After a moment's thought, she suddenly realized:

"You mean the child Liu Aiguo lost, the one Li Xinru is looking for?"

Wen Tong: "Sister, do you think it's possible? I asked my mom later, but she wouldn't admit it and insisted that I misheard."

Bai Xiaoyue instructed, "Wen Tong, this matter must be kept to yourself; you can't tell anyone else."

Grandma He is old and can't stand being frightened.

He Panpan has been Grandma He's granddaughter for sixteen years, so she will always be He Panpan.

Wen Tong nodded: "I'll tell you, even Wen An doesn't know."

Bai Wen'an entered the room just then: "Wen Tong, I don't know what's going on."

Wen Tong quickly said, "Wen An, my sister said the factory is paying for the care of those abandoned babies."

Bai Wen'an said happily, "Sister, this is great news."

Bai Xiaoyue said, "Wen'an, Wen Tong will be in charge of this good thing from now on. You can teach her how to do it."

Bai Wen'an: "Sister, I can't go to Beijing this time, I'm just too busy. Let Wen Tong go with you."

Bai Xiaoyue said with a smile:

“I understand. I heard from Wen Tong that you’re about to be promoted. When I come back next time, you’ll be the deputy county head.”

Bai Wen'an: "Sister, you can't laugh at me."

Bai Xiaoyue: "Wen'an, I'm so happy for you. My little brother is so amazing. I'm so proud of him."

Bai Wen'an: "Sister, I'm trying my best not to let you down. I used to say I would take care of you and Chang Le, but I didn't do it."

Bai Xiaoyue: "Wen'an, your job is to serve the people. Do a good job. I believe in you."

"You said you'd take care of me, so cook a good meal today. Yan Ci and I will be eating at your place."

Bai Wen'an: "Okay, okay, okay! I'll make it myself!"

Bai Xiaoyue was so happy that she opened a bottle of Moutai from the cellar.

Yan Ci joked:

"Honey, there are only two bottles of Moutai left, and you're still willing to drink one of them? You're so happy about that!"

Bai Xiaoyue: "Aci, why don't you bring the wine to drink? Bring it to look at! Wen'an will be the deputy county head soon, I'm celebrating for him in advance."

When they were drinking and having a good time, they saw their parents, Wen Tong's parents, sister, brother-in-law, and Bai Wen'an all shed tears.

Bai Xiaoyue was very happy and drank two small cups. Yan Ci then carried his wife around the yard.

After settling things at the factory, the group headed to Beijing in a large entourage.

There was a little incident before I left.

Wang Weiguo's elder brother, having heard from somewhere that Wang Weiguo had become rich, came to the village to find him, saying that his nephew and niece were getting married and that he wanted to go too.

Wang Weiguo produced the well-preserved letter severing ties with his relatives and said:

“You have no relation to Father, and even less relation to me.”

Brother Wang pleaded desperately, explaining his predicament at the time, but Wang Weiguo and Li Mingyue ignored him completely.

Ping'er got married first; he was the older brother.

Then came Xiaobai and An'an's wedding, a grand and solemn affair attended by all their relatives, friends, classmates, and colleagues.

Dozens of tables of guests were gathered, toasting and making a lively scene. Chang Le and Cui Yu were handling everything.

Bai Xiaoyue and her husband, and Li Mingyue and her husband, were responsible for accompanying their relatives and friends.

After Xiao Bai's wedding, Bai Xiaoyue spent the whole day playing with Ruyi.

It was only now that she learned that Ruyi's parents had come back, sold the house that the government had returned to the Jiang family, and then left.

Bai Xiaoyue felt sorry for Ruyi after hearing this, but Ruyi said:

“Auntie, I’m so glad I’m Yan Ruyi. Their son, Jiang Nan, died long ago.”

While going to bed, Bai Xiaoyue and Yan Ci discussed:

"Chang Le and Cui Yu are capable of making money and own multiple properties, so we don't need to worry about them."

Xiao Bai has things we bought, things Chang Le bought, and things Wen Tong gave him. He already has three courtyards, plus his great-aunt's shop. His life is pretty much the same as An An's.

Let's buy Ruyi a yard too! She's a child we raised as well.

Yan Ci nodded: "Wife, you can decide."

The couple stayed in Beijing for half a year, taking Yangyang and Xingxing with Mr. and Mrs. Bai to travel around.

In the spring of 1986, Yan Ci and Bai Xiaoyue prepared to go out.

Chang Le prepared a film camera and a pager for the couple.

Bai Xiaoyue said, "Changle, these things are so expensive, you don't need to bring them. I think it's best to travel simply and without extravagance."

Chang Le: "Mom, these are all products that our company is currently distributing. It'll be easier for me to contact you if you take them with you. Take lots of photos and show them to us when you get back."

Yan Ci packed his things and took his wife to travel all over the world.

When the two arrive at a place that interests them, they rent a house and stay there to learn about the local history, culture, food, and customs.

Yan Ci took photos specifically to document the event, and Bai Xiaoyue wrote the text.

After organizing everything, we sent it to the magazine. The payment was just enough to cover the two of us's travel expenses.

The couple spent the rest of their lives on the road, free and happy.
