Chapter 53 Postpartum Confinement

The two young women chattered excitedly, their enthusiasm making it impossible to tell that they had just had a baby.

After the examination the next day, the doctor said the two of them could go home.

Bai Xiaoyue and Li Mingyue bid each other a reluctant farewell, and she returned home lying on an oxcart.

She lay side by side with Xiaobai, with two quilts underneath them and another quilt on top. She wore a hat and a scarf, with only her big eyes showing.

Not to mention the cold, she was sweating lightly when she got home.

Chang Le had been waiting outside for a while. Seeing the oxcart from afar, she ran to call out to Bai's parents:

"Grandpa, Grandma, my mom and brother are back."

Mr. and Mrs. Bai rushed out in a hurry.

Yan Ci got out of the carriage, wrapped Bai Xiaoyue in a quilt, and carried her home.

Chang Le wanted to hug her younger brother, but her mother wouldn't let her: "Chang Le, you're still too young, let Grandma hold you." Chang Le pouted and followed behind.

Mr. Bai had already heated the kang (a heated brick bed) in the house, and Mrs. Bai had also prepared chicken soup.

Yan Ci placed Bai Xiaoyue on the kang (a heated brick bed), and put a pillow behind her so she could lean against it. Bai's mother then placed Xiaobai on the kang and untied the outer quilt.

Chang Le quickly squeezed onto the kang (a heated brick bed), curiously looking at the tiny baby in the swaddling clothes, fast asleep with its eyes closed.

"Mom, I told you it's my little brother, right?"

"Yes, Chang Le is absolutely right."

"Mom, my little brother is so small."

"Chang Le was born as small as her younger brother. It takes time for a baby to grow up."

"When can he play with me?"

"Chang Le, don't worry. Once he can eat and walk, he can play with you."

"When will he be able to eat and walk?"

Bai Xiaoyue "..."

Just then, Yan Ci brought in the food, and Bai Xiaoyue cried out for help:

“Aci, you should talk to Chang Le properly.”

As a result, the little glutton forgot about the problem when he saw the food and sat down to eat.

Xiaobai is an easy baby to raise; he eats, poops, and sleeps all day long without making a sound.

Bai Xiaoyue took good care of herself during her postpartum period, eating pig's feet, fish soup, and chicken soup every day.

She didn't need her mother to give her repeated orders; she obediently refused to wash her hair or take a bath because she cherished her body.

Now that Xiaobai has joined the team, I have an extra layer of responsibility and can no longer act impulsively.

Feeling so dirty that she couldn't stand it, she asked Yan Ci to boil mugwort in water and wipe herself down.

Last year, when Yan Ci was newly pregnant, he heard from Bai's mother that mugwort was needed for postpartum care, so he collected a lot of it, dried it, and prepared it.

Bai's mother helps out here during the day, cooking and making soup for her daughter.

Yan Ci changed and washed the child's diapers.

Bai Xiaoyue eats well, sleeps well, and has plenty of breast milk.

Before long, the bright red doll turned into a plump, white one.

Throughout the entire postpartum period, Yan Ci stayed at home with his wife and child, even having Bai Wenyi help him with shopping.

On the day of the full moon, the sun was shining brightly. Yan Ci boiled a large pot of water with mugwort and let his wife take a good bath and wash her hair.

After taking a shower, Bai Xiaoyue felt refreshed and relaxed.

Although she had gained a lot of extra fat around her waist and abdomen, she was still very happy with Xiaobai.

However, she made up her mind to go running with Yan Ci every day from now on, determined to lose this extra weight.

A few days later, Yan Ci told Bai Xiaoyue that he had to go out to run errands.

He first went to Bai Wenyi and took a bag containing some fruit and grain.

Then we went to Dr. Liu's house, and the old doctor happened to be home.

Seeing that Yan Ci was carrying a bag, she scolded, "Yan Ci, you've brought something to the door again."

Yan Ci said, "Grandma Liu, it's just some fruit."

“You sent so much meat in the winter, you don’t need to send anything anymore, I haven’t been of much help.”

“My wife and child are safe and sound, you are my great benefactor.”

"Your wife is amazing too. Childbirth is so painful, but she gritted her teeth and didn't utter a single cry of pain."

"I know, she was afraid I'd worry," Yan Ci said with heartache.

"You've come to her door time and time again for her sake, and she's endured the pain of childbirth for you. Your relationship is so deep, so live a good life together from now on!"

Grandma Liu waved her hand: "I'll accept it this time, but don't bother sending it next time. Go home now!"

Yan Ci went to the hospital instead; he was going to have a vasectomy.

The tubal ligation procedure was very simple. He rested in the hospital for half a day and then rode home smoothly in an oxcart.

That evening, after hearing Yan Ci's story, Bai Xiaoyue was completely stunned.

With red eyes, she tried to pull down Yan Ci's pants to see his wounds.

Yan Ci pressed down on her hand:

"Honey, it's just a small wound, really, really. We'll look at it after it heals."

Bai Xiaoyue shouted, "Yan Ci, you're too bold! You dare to have surgery in this era? Aren't you afraid of becoming a eunuch?!"

Yan Ci thought to himself, "Oh no, my wife is really angry. She won't call me A-Ci anymore."

He hurriedly hugged his wife and coaxed her:

“It will be fine. Bai Wenli has had this surgery before, and he said it would be fine, so I went ahead with it.”

Bai Xiaoyue was taken aback:

"My older cousin also had surgery? How did you know? How dare you ask such a question?"

Yan Ci retorted, "Anyway, I know that childbirth is too dangerous, so I don't want children."

Bai Xiaoyue glared at him: "If you don't want to have children, then don't! No, you can always use a condom!"

Yan Ci glanced at his wife and said softly:

"I don't want to be separated from you by a barrier."

Bai Xiaoyue blushed after hearing this:

"What if there are any side effects? I heard people in the office say that some people who had this surgery didn't survive."

Yan Ci frowned, a hint of unease in his voice: "No, the doctor said it won't have any effect."

Then he said viciously, "Even if it doesn't work out, you'll still have to stay with me for the rest of your life."

Bai Xiaoyue rolled her eyes and sighed inwardly. What else could she do but take good care of herself?

We'll deal with him properly once he's fully recovered.

For the next few days, Bai Xiaoyue let Yan Ci take care of the child on the kang (a heated brick bed), while she cooked and did housework every day. Anyway, when she got tired of lying down, she could get up and move around.

Yan Ci rested at home for a full week before Bai Xiaoyue allowed him to go out and work in the fields.

Worried that Yan Ci's body couldn't handle it, she even went to see Uncle Bai:

"Uncle, when I was in confinement after giving birth, Yan Ci took care of the baby every day."

He hasn't slept well for a long time last night, so let's give him an easier job, even if it means fewer work points.

"Once he recovers, he can start earning work points properly."

The uncle jokingly scolded his niece:

"You have the nerve to say that? I think Yan Ci just lost weight from exhaustion, I know, I know."

Once spring planting is complete and the weather gets warmer, Little White will be able to babble.

The first thing Chang Le does when she gets home from school is to go see her younger brother, play with him for a while, and then start doing her homework next to him.

If Xiaobai is noisy, Changle will read him a passage from a textbook:

A crescent moon and a tiny boat.

The little boat is pointed at both ends.

I sat in the little boat.

...

It was amazing that Xiaobai stopped crying immediately.

During the day, Mr. and Mrs. Bai often come over to lend a hand.

Every night when Xiaobai cried, Yan Ci would change his diaper and bring him to Bai Xiaoyue's side to nurse.

Bai Xiaoyue's life as a mother is very easy.
