Chapter 64 1966

Yan Ci found the mother and daughter amusing. He cupped Bai Xiaoyue's head and gently kissed her forehead.

"Honey, it's hot outside, you go inside first. I'll deal with him."

Then he squatted down and faced his son: "Son, are you a man?"

Little White sobbed, "I want to go, I want to go."

Yan Ci patted his son's head:

"Go wash your face, and Daddy will take you to find your sister, okay?"

The little rascal seemed to understand, stopped crying, wiped away his tears, and ran to fetch water to wash his face.

He was too short to reach the water, and he was about to cry.

Yan Ci prepared the water for him and told him to take the small towel and wash himself.

After he finished washing, his clothes got wet again, so Yan Ci brought him more clothes to change into.

Yan Ci asked Bai Xiaoyue if she wanted to go, but Bai Xiaoyue was afraid of snakes and the heat, so she let the father and son go instead.

By the time Yan Ci strolled over with Xiao Bai in his arms, Chang Le and her group were long gone.

Yan Ci planned to take Xiao Bai for a walk around the foot of the mountain and then go home, but they found a little rabbit when they got there.

Little White was very excited and wanted to chase after it, but Yan Ci threw a pebble and the little rabbit fainted.

Little White was overjoyed and stopped asking for his sister. He hugged the rabbit and wanted to go home.

Yan Ci teased his son, saying that he would kill the little rabbit and eat it. Xiao Bai immediately cried loudly and clung to the rabbit.

Bai Xiaoyue didn't want to raise it, saying that if Xiaobai wanted to raise it, she would have to take responsibility, feed it herself, and take care of it herself.

Later, Chang Le was the one who fed them most of the time, because she also took care of the three hens in the house and helped her younger brother feed the rabbits.

Seeing that a rabbit looked lonely, Bai Xiaoyue asked Yan Ci to catch another one so they could raise it together.

Xiao Bai was very happy and would go to see his little rabbit every day and feed it vegetable leaves.

Seeing that Chang Le was running around every day, Bai Xiaoyue went to the bookstore in the city and bought her two sets of comic books.

A set of "Journey to the West", a set of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", plus a "Xinhua Dictionary".

She also wanted to buy a set of math, physics, and chemistry books for Chang Le to keep, but there were only four volumes of physics and four volumes of chemistry.

Even without algebra and geometry, Bai Xiaoyue didn't mind and bought all eight books to take home and store.

I don't know if it will still be usable by then, but I'll prepare it in advance, just in case it comes in handy!

Chang Le was overjoyed to receive the comic book and stopped running outside. She stayed home every day reading the comic book with Xiao Bai.

Time flies, and it's already 1966.

Bai Wen'an's son, Bai Yanrui, is already a month old.

The first half of the year was still peaceful. Bai Xiaoyue was like a little ant, constantly carrying things home, including daily necessities and food.

She made sure to prepare plenty of supplies, believing that in times of chaos, it was safer to stay in the village and avoid going out if possible.

In July, the atmosphere became tense, schools were closed, and students were restless.

Bai Xiaoyue had kept Chang Le locked up at home early on, making her stay home to take care of her younger brother and not allow her to go anywhere.

Chang Le is 10 years old this year, 1.5 meters tall, and has a lively and cheerful personality. She is warm and generous to others.

She had been practicing martial arts with Yan Ci, who said that Chang Le could easily handle an ordinary adult.

In addition, she has a chivalrous heart, and letting her out would cause big problems.

Bai Xiaoyue said to her daughter very seriously:

"Chang Le, the world outside is very chaotic now, there are bad people everywhere. You can't go out, you can only stay at home every day to protect your mother and younger brother."

Chang Le nodded and said earnestly, "I know."

Chang Le knew her mother's personality; she was usually very easygoing, but when her mother spoke seriously, she had better obey, otherwise, the consequences would be severe.

Yan Ci also spoke very formally to Chang Le:

"Changle, I'm entrusting Mom and my younger brother to your protection. You must stay by their side at all times. Can you do that?"

Chang Le saluted Yan Ci: "I guarantee to complete the mission."

Chang Le's daily activities consist of learning to cook with her mother, practicing horse stance with her younger brother at home, or running around the yard.

Bai Xiaoyue even took the time to make a tattered old outfit for everyone.

They would patch up old clothes and wear them, making it obvious that the family was extremely poor.

She then packed away all the valuables in the house, her wedding clothes, and any slightly nicer clothes, and put them in the cellar.

The items displayed outside are just some daily necessities.

She also went to the Bai family to find Bai's mother:

"Mom, put away all the valuables in the house, like the silver bracelet that Grandma gave you last time."

Bai Xiaoyue looked around and realized that the Bai family didn't have anything of value.

She went to Bai Wen'an's house to find Wen Tong again:

"Wen Tong, you know it's very chaotic outside right now. You should put away all your valuables, and also put away those cheongsams you brought from Beijing."

The same goes for the novels and magazines you like to read; we should keep them as simple as possible.

We need to be prepared for the possibility that the movement might spread to the countryside.

Bai Xiaoyue felt that apart from Chang Le, the other children were still young and should be fine.

As a result, she overlooked Ye Changxing. By the time she found out, Ye Changxing had already gone to participate in the Great Cultural Revolution.

Bai Xiaoyue could only sigh when she found out.

Ye Changxing was actually a good kid. After he got into a fight with Changle and was criticized by Grandpa Ye, he was a good kid.

He never bullied Chang Le again, nor did he allow anyone else to bully Chang Le. At school, he acted as Chang Le's older brother.

When Bai Xiaoyue saw Ye Changxing again, it was already November.

The boy, who was fourteen or fifteen years old and about 1.7 meters tall, was wearing a new military uniform with a red armband.

He was followed by a few henchmen, looking very smug.

The city had long been turned upside down by the little devils; there were cries, shouts, and curses everywhere, a chaotic and foul-smelling scene.

The people of Hongxing Production Brigade were mostly refugees who had settled here, and they were all poor peasants, so the village was relatively peaceful.

The weather was already very cold, and Yan Ci and Bai Xiaoyue had already stocked up on food and supplies, so the whole family stayed at home to get through the winter.

In December, when snow was falling heavily, someone knocked on Bai Xiaoyue's courtyard gate.

The knocking was urgent. Yan Ci opened the door, and Li Mingyue was standing outside, holding An'an, with Ping'er following behind.

When Bai Xiaoyue saw Li Mingyue, whose eyes were red and swollen and whose face looked haggard, she hurriedly asked, "Mingyue, what's wrong?"

Li Mingyue hugged Bai Xiaoyue and burst into tears.

It turns out that Wang Weiguo's father worked at the steel factory, and this time the top leader of the steel factory was being criticized and denounced.

Wang's father spoke up in his defense, but he was also arrested and criticized, accused of being an accomplice of a high-ranking leader.

The Red Guards also encouraged the masses to expose their crimes.

Brother Wang and Sister-in-law Wang, fearing they would be implicated, wanted to sever ties with everyone in the Wang family.

In order to gain merit, Sister-in-law Wang even made a baseless accusation against her father.

The father's body had been ravaged, and then his eldest son and daughter-in-law dealt him a fatal blow, which he could not accept.

He didn't want his youngest son to suffer along with him, so he left a letter severing ties with Wang Weiguo and went to see his ancestors.

Grandma Wang went along too.

Wang Weiguo was devastated and beat up his older brother, then tearfully arranged his parents' funeral.
