"Hey, look, who's back?"
"Of course it's our Ke'er girl who's back."
"Didn't Ke'er go to pick up her uncle? Why can't he be seen?"
"What are you looking at? Isn't the second son of the Qin family sitting in front of the carriage driving it?"
As soon as the carriage arrived at the village entrance, the aunts, sisters-in-law, and other aunts who had been holding a discussion under the big elm tree gathered around, chattering and gossiping. When Qin Chengrui saw that he couldn't move, he stopped the carriage and slowly got out. Only then did everyone see that his leg was wrapped in white gauze.
"Ouch, are you injured?"
"Is it serious?"
"Is this leg going to be crippled? This Erwa hasn't even gotten married yet. If his leg is crippled, it might be hard for him to find a partner."
"I'm afraid I'll have to retire and go home. How will I live after getting married? It'll be hard to work in the fields."
Qin Chengrui just smiled with a dark face, covered in dust and with an untidy beard. No one dared to approach him and just chatted on the side. When Ke'er heard that he was worried about his uncle getting married and having children, she immediately got out of the carriage and waved to the aunts and sisters with a smile, "Aunts, aunts, sisters-in-law, sisters, hello everyone. My uncle was injured while on a mission and walked for five or six days. You can see he doesn't look well. I won't chat with you today. I'll come out and chat with you tomorrow when my uncle is better. Goodbye."
Qin Chengrui was about to get on the carriage and continue his journey when he heard, "Uncle, is that you uncle? You are uncle! Uncle!" Before he could react, he was hugged tightly by a strong arm. While shouting "Uncle", he patted Qin Chengrui's back, "Uncle, I finally see you again. It's so good that you are alive. I see you again, uncle." Qin Feng cried and laughed loudly like a child, patting Qin Chengrui's back vigorously.
Qin Chengrui thought to himself, "This is so strong! Fortunately, I'm a soldier and have trained myself to be strong and muscular, otherwise I would have been beaten to pieces." He raised his hand and patted Qin Feng on the back. "Let go! You almost beat me to death! What did you eat to grow up? How can you be so strong? You're crying and laughing, your nose is bubbling. You're such a grown man, aren't you ashamed? Let go! Stand up straight and talk properly." Qin Feng finally let go of his uncle and wiped his tears and snot from his uncle's shoulder with his sleeve. Qin Chengrui glared at him with disdain and slapped his hand away. "Why don't you leave? Go home! You're so old and still have no sense of propriety." He waved to the crowd of women who opened their mouths in surprise and pulled Qin Feng away. If they could run, Ke'er thought that Uncle would have grabbed Dad and ran away. It's so embarrassing. Dad, so you are such a dad. Go home and tell everyone.
When he got back to the door, Qin Feng shouted loudly, "Shuwan, your uncle is back." "Qin Muze, Qin Muchiao, Qin Muzhou, Qin Muchun, come out quickly, your uncle is back."
A group of people rushed out in a hurry. Li Shuwan bowed slightly to Qin Chengrui with tears in her eyes. "Uncle, welcome home." Hearing the word "home", Qin Chengrui also felt dazed. Home? His mother passed away that year. When he left home with his father, he was only a year older than Ke'er, and Qin Feng was just one year old.
The next time I saw Qin Feng was when my eldest sister-in-law passed away. My father came back with my eldest brother and myself. That year, my eldest brother's eldest son was in the army and couldn't come home. Qin Chengrui was 15 years old and already a soldier, and Qin Feng was 10 years old. When he left, he hugged Qin Chengrui and refused to let go, insisting on going together to serve in the army. My father didn't want the Qin family to be extinct, so he cruelly abandoned Qin Feng and handed him over to the elders of the clan to take care of his food and drink. Qin Feng said to his father hatefully: "You are a bad grandfather, a bad guy, never come back." He yelled at his eldest brother, "You are a bad father, go and be Qin Chengrui's father, I don't want you anymore, all of you go."
Xiao Si threw himself on Qin Chengrui's legs, and he came back to his senses. Xiao Si raised his head and patted Qin Chengrui with a smile, "Uncle? You are uncle, your face is so dirty, go wash your face quickly and eat, the rice smells so good. I can eat a big bowl of rice." Qin Chengrui picked up the nephew who was not afraid of him, his eyes slightly red, "Okay uncle, go wash your face now, you are Xiao Si Qin Muchun." Xiao Si nodded, "Yes." Then he introduced his brothers to him one by one, and finally introduced Ke'er, "Uncle, this is my sister Ke'er, she is beautiful, there is no such beautiful girl in the surrounding area." The arrogant look on his face made Qin Chengrui laugh.
Bending over and placing him on the ground, Qin Chengrui pulled Zhou Jinyan over and introduced him to everyone, "This child is the child of a friend of my comrade-in-arms. His father died, so I brought him to my hometown to recuperate. When I return to the army, I will take him back with me."
Zhou Jinyan smiled at everyone, her upturned almond-shaped eyes full of smiles. "Hello everyone, I'm Zhou Jinyan. I'll be staying here for a while. I'm sorry to bother you."
Qin Muzhou stepped forward and took his hand. "Let's go home." These three words made Zhou Jinyan's eyes red, and he followed him into the yard. Qin Feng pulled the carriage. He looked and saw if it was the general's carriage. They were back home. If the villagers asked where the carriage was, it must be his uncle's. They unloaded the carriage at the barn and carried the things inside into the hall.
Several children fetched water for their uncle and Zhou Jinyan so that they could wash and change into clean clothes. Li Shuwan had made Qin Chengrui's clothes in the past few days. She had made three sets of clothes for him, including one for inside and outside, and also made two pairs of cloth shoes for him. Zhou Jinyan was wearing clothes given to him by Qin Muchun. Xiao Si was reluctant to give them away because they were all made by his mother. But his mother said that when guests come, he should be hospitable. This brother is so pitiful. He has no mother and no father. Well, let him wear the clothes my mother made for me.
After they washed and changed their clothes, Ke'er took a crutch and gave it to her uncle to lean on so that he could move freely without anyone's help. They came to the hall and the food was already prepared. Qin Feng calculated the time and asked Li Shuwan to prepare it every day since he should be back these days. Today's meal was very rich, with braised pork, stir-fried bacon with green peppers, wild vegetables with minced garlic, shredded potatoes, stewed pork ribs with green radish, stir-fried cabbage slices, eggplant with beans, brown rice, and a pot of steamed buns made of two-grain flour.
