Chapter 14 Cleaning the New Home

At seven o'clock in the morning, Jianshu got up and washed.

There are a lot of things to do today, including cleaning the new house, packing things, and packing luggage. Time is quite tight.

I didn’t go to the cafeteria, so I took two buns and a cup of soy milk from the space as breakfast.

The distance from the compound to the new home is not very far. It takes about half an hour to get there by taking two buses.

It only takes 40 minutes to get there by bike, and buses aren't very fast these days.

The new house was in a good location, within the Third Ring Road in later generations. Nearby there was not only the Public Security Bureau and a department store, but also a state-owned restaurant.

This is a small courtyard with two entrances.

The main gate is in the southeast corner. When you open the gate and walk in, there is a screen wall opposite. It used to be carved with peonies, but now it has been smoothed out.

Go left through the moon-shaped gate and you will see three back-facing rooms that have been converted into guest rooms.

There is a hanging flower gate to the north of the back house, and the carved patterns on it have been worn away.

When you open the door, you will see three main rooms and two side rooms directly opposite. The middle of the three main rooms is the main hall, and to the east is the bedroom of Jane's father and mother. The side room next to it has been converted into a study.

On the west side is Jianshu's room. The side room next to it was converted into a bathroom by Jian's father. It is connected to Jianshu's room to make it convenient for her to wash.

Secretary Jian remembered that it was not a bathroom before. It must have been modified by Jian's father later. It seemed that he had been planning to let Jian Shu live here for a long time.

The east wing was converted into a kitchen, dining room and warehouse, while the west wing was empty. Jane's parents used to joke that they would keep it for Jian Shu's future children to live in.

The east and west wing rooms and the main house's hanging flower gate are connected by winding corridors, enclosing a courtyard of about 100 square meters.

There was an osmanthus tree in the yard, and beneath it stood a stone table and chairs. Jian Shu remembered that his parents often played chess there. Now it was the season for the osmanthus flowers to bloom, and a breeze blew the fragrance into the yard.

There's also a well in the courtyard, which will make water more convenient. The toilet is in the southwest corner of the courtyard, a distance away from the rooms, so there's no need to worry about odors. There's a small utility room in the southeast corner.

After seeing the overall situation of the courtyard, Jianshu was very satisfied. In this day and age, it is common for a family of more than a dozen people to squeeze into a 30-square-meter house. Having such a large courtyard is really satisfying.

If it weren't for his background and his entire family being martyrs, Jian Shu wouldn't be able to guarantee that he could protect this courtyard.

However, it is a bit too conspicuous for one person to live in such a big yard. It would be better to find someone with good luck and rent out the three back rooms in the front.

If it is reported by some people with ulterior motives, even if Jianshu has a background and nothing bad happens, it is still better to keep a low profile.

However, this matter cannot be rushed. The tenants also need to carefully examine the candidates. If they get a top-notch one, life will be restless.

This matter can be put on hold for now.

Jianshu found a broom, rag and bucket from the utility room, drew a bucket of water from the well, and prepared to start cleaning.

When Jane's mother was still alive, the couple would bring Jianshu to stay with them every now and then during their vacation.

But since Jane's mother passed away, the father and son have never come back to live here again. Only Jane's father comes back occasionally to clean the house.

It has been half a year since I last cleaned the house. After half a year, the furniture is covered with dust and the floor is also very dirty. If I don’t clean it properly, it will be uninhabitable.

However, time is limited, so Jianshu can only clean the main house and kitchen first, and the rest of the west wing and guest rooms can only be cleaned slowly after moving in.

Entering Jane's room, it was about 20 square meters. There was a single window, on the right side of the door, facing the courtyard. Beneath the window sill sat a large, bare desk. Further in, there was a 6-foot-tall double bed. Against the inner wall was a wardrobe. The layout was simple, with little decoration.

Perhaps because no one had lived there for a long time, there was nothing in the room except furniture, and the bedding and clothes had been taken away long ago.

Jianshu took a rag and wiped the wardrobe and desk, using two buckets of water.

When I was wiping the bed, I found something wrong. After fiddling with it for a while, I found a letter.

This letter was hidden very secretly. If Jianshu hadn't cleaned it carefully, wiping it inside and out, up and down, he might not have been able to find any clues.
