Jianshu couldn't help but laugh when he saw it, and even felt shy. He picked up the milk beside him and handed it to him, "Here, don't rush to sleep yet, drink this glass of milk before you go to sleep."
"Thank you, Auntie!" After dinner, the eldest and second child were less reserved and more relaxed. Holding the cup in their hands, they smelled the rich milky aroma and drank it in small sips with great care.
After drinking, all three of them had a circle of mustaches on their mouths.
"It smells so good!" Tiedan sat in the quilt and exclaimed with a smack of his lips.
Jian Shu was amused by his appearance. "Okay, give me the cup and go to sleep. There will be milk to drink when you wake up tomorrow morning."
"No, one drink is enough." Tiedan shook his head and refused. Then he looked at the remaining milk in the cup and asked, "Beautiful sister, can you fill me another glass of water? I'll just use this cup."
"Are you thirsty? Okay, give me the cup and I'll pour it for you." Jian Shu asked casually.
Unexpectedly, Tiedan shook his head and said, "No, I just wanted to rinse the cup. There's still a lot of milk in it, and I can't drink it."
Jianshu paused her outstretched hand, looking at his cherished look, feeling a little complicated.
She quickly composed herself and took the cup from him with a faint smile, "Okay, but don't drink too much, or you won't be able to sleep at night." Then she looked at the eldest and second oldest brother and asked, "What about you guys? Do you want some water too?"
"want!"
"I want one too!"
The two of them quickly responded.
Jian Shu instructed Gu Mingjing to bring in the kettle, and added about one-third of water to the three people's cups. After mixing with the remaining milk, the liquid turned into a light milky white color, and it also had a light milky aroma when drank.
The three of them shook the cup carefully, cleaning every part of the cup wall with water. After making sure there was no residual milk, they drank the liquid in the cup.
The satisfied expression on his face made Jianshu realize that happiness is so simple.
After drinking, Jianshu took back the cup, pushed the three of them back into bed, covered them with the quilt, tucked in the corners, and after giving them a few more instructions, he turned and left the room.
“Raising children is such a hassle.”
Jianshu was sitting on the bed folding clothes, and Gu Mingjing was helping him.
"That's right. I have to arrange food and drink, and worry about whether they will be cold. There are too many things to worry about." Jianshu also deeply agrees. Raising children is really too stressful.
"So let's not have children for the time being." Gu Mingjing reaffirmed this idea.
If they had a child, most of his wife's attention would definitely be shifted to the child, and he didn't want that.
"Okay, go wash up and have some rest early. Remember to make breakfast for them tomorrow so they can eat before going to school." After saying that, Jian Shu took some clothes to change and went into the bathroom.
"Okay, I understand." Gu Mingjing nodded, indicating that he understood.
No words were spoken that night.
The next day, when Jianshu got up, Gu Mingjing was gone.
"Beautiful sister, you're up!" Tiedan, who was squatting in the usual place, saw Jianshu and greeted her happily.
Rubbing her head, Jian Shu smiled and asked, "Where are my brothers? Have you had breakfast?"
"Yes, Uncle Gu gave us grits porridge and eggs this morning! My brothers and sisters went to school after they finished eating." Tiedan counted the breakfast food on his fingers. When he mentioned eggs, he couldn't help licking his lips with a greedy look on his face.
Jian Shu patted his head and said, "Okay, you play here for a while. I'll go eat first."
"Well, beautiful sister, you go ahead, I'll stay here." Tiedan waved to Jianshu, then squatted down again.
Jianshu didn't care and went straight into the kitchen.
In the pot, warming was the breakfast Gu Mingjing had left for her: a bowl of rice porridge, two hard-boiled eggs, and a small pile of pickled vegetables. She touched it with the back of her hand, and it was still warm.
The portion is just right, not too much or too little. After eating it, Jianshu feels full but not too stuffy.
There weren’t many dishes, so Jianshu didn’t put them in the dishwasher and just washed them by hand.
He wiped the water stains on his hands and walked out. Looking at Tiedan squatting on the ground, he wondered whether he should take him up the mountain.
It was autumn, the harvest season, and although there hadn't been any rain these days and there weren't many mushrooms in the mountains, there were still plenty of other good things. Wild fruits and dried goods, and even if there weren't any, picking up some firewood would be enough.
Jianshu wasn't greedy for that little thing, but he was just sitting around doing nothing, so it would be nice to go up the mountain for a walk. It would also divert Tiedan's attention so that he wouldn't be squatting at the door all day thinking about the hospital.
We can't keep our spirits so tense all the time.
"Tiedan!" The more he thought about it, the more feasible it seemed, and Jianshu waved over there.
Tiedan turned around, a little confused, but he still patted his butt and stood up, walking towards Jianshu, "What?"
Jian Shu took out two backpacks, one large and one small. "Come on, it's okay to stay at home. Let's go up the mountain to find firewood."
Tiedan didn't really want to go; he wanted to wait for his mother to come back home. But something struck him, and he nodded in agreement.
He and his brother had dinner at his beautiful sister's house, which must have wasted a lot of food. He couldn't eat for free, so he had to work hard.
I obediently carried the small backpack and followed Jianshu to the back mountain.
Jianshu had no idea of the twists and turns in his mind, and she never imagined that such a young child would have the idea of working to pay off debts. If she knew, she would probably have to sigh that children from poor families have to grow up early.
Children these days tend to mature earlier than those in later generations.
Two people, one big and one small, walked hand in hand towards the back mountain, leaving a trail of footprints on the road.
Soon we arrived at the foot of the mountain.
In autumn and winter, the leaves gradually turn yellow and there are many dead leaves and branches scattered on the ground, making a crunching sound when people step on them.
Jianshu didn't stop and walked straight into the forest holding Tiedan's hand.
The dead branches and leaves at the foot of the mountain are too small to use as firewood. If you put them in, they'll probably burn up in seconds. They're great for starting a fire, though. But there's no rush. I can just bring some back later. There's no need to waste energy loading them now. Conserving your energy is the most important thing.
The mountains were much more desolate than the last time I came here. Large patches of dead branches and leaves covered the ground, like a golden carpet, with a unique beauty.
The thing that is most abundant in the mountains is trees, but regulations do not allow cutting down trees. You can pick up firewood and trim some branches to take back, but cutting down trees is absolutely not allowed.
Jianshu strongly supports this regulation. It is easy to cut down a tree, but it is not so easy to plant it again. It takes ten to twenty years for a sapling to grow into a big tree, which is a very long time.
Although there are many trees in the mountains, they are limited. If we really want to provide firewood for everyone to keep warm, I'm afraid the mountain will be empty in less than two years.
Once the environment is destroyed, it will be difficult to restore it.
