For the next two days, Jianshu just lay in bed to recuperate and sleep, and ate when he woke up. His life was almost like raising pigs.
Occasionally, when I'm bored, I play with my daughter, but usually other people hold her and let her do it, and I don't let her do it directly.
Giving birth is too exhausting. Even though Jianshu felt that she was much better, Meng Ying still refused to let her be discharged from the hospital and insisted that she rest for two more days.
But for Jianshu, going back home to recuperate is much more comfortable than staying in the hospital. There are many children in the hospital, and the wards near them are all filled with mothers who have given birth, so it is very lively every day.
As long as one little baby starts crying, it won't be long before the whole corridor is filled with duets, trios, and a chorus of sobbing, with voices high and low, sharp and rough, rising and falling one after another, continuously.
Here it begins again.
“Wow wow wow—”
“Ouch—”
Jian Shu's head started to hurt when he heard that, and he quickly said, "Gu Mingjing, hurry up and close the door and windows of the ward. Don't wake up our daughter!"
Meng Ying gently covered the child's ears with her hands and looked at the door helplessly. "That voice is right out of the kid next door. He has the loudest voice in the wards along the entire corridor. I ran into the old lady from that family yesterday, and she told me she was almost deafened by that kid."
"The old lady was so disgusted on her face, but she was almost smiling. She was just showing off on purpose." Zhao Yueling added.
Meng Ying said, "That's normal. Look at that little kid's sturdy body, who wouldn't like him? The old lady just likes to say a few words, she doesn't have any bad intentions."
The more people there are, the more gossip there is. This one is all about childbirth. Sometimes family members like to gossip when they meet. Those whose daughters-in-law have given birth to sons will inevitably brag about it, and some even like to bully those who have given birth to daughters.
Some of those who were offended cursed back, while others took their anger out on their wives. Every now and then, you could hear that there was a commotion in one ward.
Jian Shusheng's daughter was still in a single ward. Some jealous people thought Meng Ying was her mother-in-law and came up to her and said some unpleasant things in front of her. She was too lazy to explain so much and ignored them and went back to the ward and closed the door.
The old lady next door was one of the few who didn't say provocative things in front of her. Although her words were all about her grandson, if you listened more, you would find that she had no bad intentions and just really liked her big, fat grandson. It wasn't that she favored boys over girls, it was just that fat kids were more popular.
This can be seen from her granddaughter's dress. She is not treated harshly at home. Her clothes are all new without any patches, and she wears small leather shoes. It can be seen that her family is well-off and treats their daughter well.
Seeing through this, Meng Ying didn't reject her too much and was able to talk to her.
"I still don't like it." Zhao Yueling leaned over to Jian Shu and muttered, "That old lady knows that my family has a daughter, but she keeps talking about how good her grandson is. It's my family, but now it's a different family. I don't know what she thinks."
Jian Shu reached out and flicked her forehead, then said with a smile, "If you don't like her, then don't like her. She's not an important person. Why don't you just spend less time with her? Why make yourself unhappy?"
We are just fellow patients, not even in the same ward. To put it bluntly, we just say a few more words than strangers. What's there to like or dislike?
Even though Meng Ying seemed to get along well with others, in fact, they didn't even exchange names. They both called each other Zhuangzhuang Grandma and Yiyi Grandma. Neither of them took it to heart, okay?
Zhao Yueling is a young woman who is really sentimental, but she lacks experience.
"Hmph, I still like our Yi Yi. Our Yi Yi is a good baby, much cuter than those who cry all day long." Zhao Yueling was still unhappy. She praised the child in various ways while holding him, and even learned to pull him down without any instruction.
Jianshu looked at her helplessly, "Lingling." Every child is a treasure. It would be bad if others heard it.
"Okay, okay, I won't say anything." Zhao Yueling shut up reluctantly.
What she said was wrong. Her child Yiyi was a well-behaved one. He would whimper a few times when he had a bowel movement or was hungry, but he didn't cry much. If he was woken up by the crying of other children, he would just pout and feel wronged. He would just close the door and coax her. He was so easy to take care of.
"It seems to be quiet outside?" Jianshu listened carefully and there seemed to be no movement.
"Maybe they'll start quarreling again later. There are so many children here. When one cries, there will be another one." Zhao Yueling yawned. "I'm so sleepy. I want to sleep. There were several quarrels outside yesterday, and I didn't sleep well."
Last night, she had been keeping vigil at the hospital with her mother, and for the first time, she had realized how difficult the night could be. Hospital beds were already uncomfortable for naps, and with all the noise outside, she hadn't slept well the entire night.
"Go to sleep. I'll wake you up later when it's time for dinner." Seeing Zhao Yueling lying down, Jian Shu looked at Meng Ying again, "Auntie should get some sleep too. Yiyi just fell asleep after dinner and she won't wake up for a while. Just put her next to me and I'll watch over her."
Zhao Yueling didn't sleep well, and Meng Ying was almost the same, yawning several times.
Meng Ying was worried. "Forget it. I'll wait until your dad and the others come back before I go to sleep. I'm worried about you being alone."
"It will be a while before they go back. Aunt, you should get some sleep first. I'll wake you up if anything happens." Jianshu advised her a few more times.
Her father and Gu Mingjing went back to the family compound to discuss the house issue with the higher-ups. The back and forth time plus the communication time took at least half a day. This was if everything went smoothly. Otherwise, it would take even longer. If they really had to wait, who knew how long they would have to wait?
"You won't have the energy to take care of the children if you don't get enough rest, right? We don't know when Dad and the others will be back. We're all relying on you here, so don't collapse first."
Meng Ying was really beginning to feel a bit overwhelmed. Hearing this, she glanced at the child sleeping soundly in the cradle and carried her to Jian Shu. "Okay, then. You watch over her. If she wakes up, call me immediately. Don't come alone, okay?"
