Chapter 1

Chapter 1

August 2024, in the oncology ward of a tertiary hospital.

In August 1970, doctors and nurses were busy in the ward of the Beijing Factory Hospital.

Outside the Ninth Heaven, the Lotus Fairy stood in front of the mirror in the palace, looking at something.

The four-person ward was full of people, men and women, old and young, occupying one room each.

Xu Di, 44 years old, was one of them. In the ward, there was another woman who was nearly 70 years old and another in her twenties. She was neither old nor young, so she was considered middle-aged.

After nearly four years of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, there is very little of my originally black hair left.

The fat that once bothered me so much disappeared on its own without any help.

"Give me a mirror, and take one last look at myself."

Accompanying Xu Di at the bedside is her son Li Haoyu, 22 years old, who graduated from college in July and has not yet had time to find a job.

"Mom, the doctor said there is still hope, don't say discouraging words."

Xu Di didn't say a word. He looked at himself in the mirror. His previously round face had become skinny and sallow. A face without fat was really scary.

Through the mirror, Xu Di thought about what he looked like more than 20 years ago. Vaguely, he seemed to see that young woman in her twenties, young and beautiful.

Xu Di was born in 1980. After graduating from high school, he failed to get into college, but he didn't want to stay in the village to farm, so he followed his fellow villagers to the city and worked on a sewing machine in a garment factory for two years.

When she was 20 years old, her brother called and her parents asked her to go home for a blind date.

There are two candidates. One is Wang Hui from the next village, who is serving in the army.

One is Li Kai, a civil servant in the county. He has a stable job and owns a house and a car (motorcycle).

Xu Di has a good impression of soldiers and thinks they are responsible.

But my brother, sister-in-law and parents all felt that soldiers were away from home all year round and could not be relied on for anything at home, so being a military wife was too hard.

Xu Di was young, and she was afraid of living alone in the future and not seeing her husband many times a year, so she finally chose to be a civil servant to go and meet him.

The blind date process was very simple. The two parties met and found that Li Kai's appearance and height were of average standard.

Although Xu Di did not have a formal job, he was over 1.6 meters tall and good-looking, so both parties had a good first impression of him.

After more than half a year of getting along, the parents of both sides discussed marriage, and Xu Di entered into married life.

After getting married, Xu Di discovered that Li Kai could not do any housework and had no awareness that he also needed to do housework.

In addition to work, Xu Di is also responsible for preparing three meals a day, cleaning the house and doing laundry. Li Kai is a player who would not even help if the oil bottle fell over. He would only shout “Xu Di, the oil bottle fell over!”

When life was not going well, Xu Di was always very angry.

The Xu family is from the countryside, and it is common for men not to do housework. Her parents said that she was too fussy. Li Kai earned money and brought it home, so why should she be so fussy?

Xu Di was interrupted when he was halfway through complaining.

Later, the child was born.

Li Kai also had no sense of being a father. He would get annoyed if he played with his son for more than ten minutes.

From pregnancy to delivery, Xu Di did all the prenatal checkups and prepared the baby's supplies by herself. Occasionally, her mother-in-law would come over, but she would just talk and not do anything.

From childhood to adulthood, Xu Di was the only one who took care of his son's eating, drinking, defecating, urinating, and illness in the hospital.

She had wanted to divorce countless times, but her son cried and the elderly tried to dissuade her, and she was unable to express her pain.

In the eyes of the world, Li Kai does not gamble or visit prostitutes, and he hands over all his salary. How great!

Only Xu Di himself knows how hard life is for a person.

Obviously, that man is a husband and a father, but he did not fulfill his responsibilities as a husband and a father.

After every quarrel and every time of getting angry, Xu Di felt pain in his heart.

Later, as smartphones became popular, Li Kai's life was spent lying on the sofa and browsing his phone, except for work.

Two people living under the same roof have almost no communication, and even sex between husband and wife becomes dispensable.

Xu Di endured this and was angry until she was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer a few years ago.

She thought she had a heart problem and was always so angry that her chest ached. Unexpectedly, the problem was with the breast.

Surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, Li Kai used work as an excuse to throw all these things to Xu Di's family.

After persisting for three or four years, Xu Di was tired, and her family was also tired of going through so much trouble.

Now that her son has graduated from college, she has nothing to worry about.

At the end of his life, Xu Di was in the intensive care unit. The monitor connected to his body made a beeping sound, and a straight line appeared on the display.

When Xu Di was dying, she was thinking, if she had chosen to join the army in the next village, would her life be different?

Whenever I think of Li Kai lying on the sofa and browsing his phone, I wish I could take care of the children at home by myself. It is better for my husband to be away from home all year round than to be at home and do nothing.

At the very least, out of sight, out of mind.

At the same time, in a hospital in another time and space, doctors were also trying to rescue the patient.

"Doctor Liu, the patient is not breathing!"

"Let me take a look, give first aid immediately."

The doctor in a white coat quickly performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the patient in the bed.

On the bed, the girl's pale face lost its color for a while, and her heart stopped beating briefly.

There is a voice in my head calling out:

"Lotus Fairy, your tribulation is over, it's time to return to the Ninth Heaven.

Lotus Jade Girl, your tribulation is over, it's time to return to the Ninth Heaven. ”

"It's breathing, it's breathing..."

The young nurse was so excited that she shouted several times and tears came out.

The girl was too young. It would be a pity if she couldn't be saved.

The doctor stopped, took the stethoscope and listened to the girl's heart. Although it was still a little weak, it had started beating.

"Everyone, disperse and let the patient have a good rest. Nurse Wang, you look after the patient and ask about her family situation. Notify her family as soon as possible."

"Got it, Doctor Liu."

Nurse Wang wiped her eyes and touched the girl's forehead with her hand. Fortunately, she did not have a fever.

The girl lying on the bed is no longer the same girl.

When Xu Di arrived, he just happened to hear the words, "Lotus Fairy, your tribulation is over, it's time to return to the Ninth Heaven."

She was still thinking, could she still dream after death? Which immortal cultivation drama was she dreaming about?

Then, she felt herself being sucked in by a force, and instantly, she felt pain in her chest, as if someone was pressing on her chest.

There are many images in my mind.

The magnificent Nine Heavens, the beautiful palaces, the incomparably beautiful fairies, and the golden boys and jade girls serving them.

A very old-fashioned tube-shaped building and a girl with two pigtails.

The jade girl who broke the glass cup was punished to go to the human world to experience trials.

The newborn girl learned to walk, went to the education class, went to elementary school, graduated from junior high school, and went to high school.

Xu Di felt like he had watched two movies of different themes, one about cultivating immortals and the other about a certain era.

"Girl, how are you now? Can you speak? Where are you from? Which unit do your parents work in? I'll go contact them. Your clothes are still wet."

Xu Di looked at the smiling nurse, but his mind was still a little confused.

"Beijing Red Star Machinery Factory, my father Xu Dapeng, phone number..."

Xu Di felt that these were not what she said, but she could feel herself opening her mouth.

She was very confused. She closed her eyes and tried to figure out what was going on.
