Arriving at the ward, Fan immediately asked the doctor, "Doctor, when will my wife wake up?"
"His leg only needed local anesthesia, but he probably hadn't gotten a good night's sleep in days fighting the enemy! During our preoperative examination, we noticed that although his body was exhausted, he was still on edge. He refused to close his eyes and sleep even after arriving at the hospital, insisting he waited for you to come and tell you he was fine before he could rest, fearing you would cry anxiously."
So in order to perform the surgery as quickly as possible, we gave him some sleeping pills. He's just asleep now, and he'll probably wake up in pain once the anesthetic wears off."
After hearing this, Fan felt a mixture of heartache and emotion. He walked gently to Zhao Yilu's bedside, looking at his slightly haggard but resolute face, and a warm feeling welled up in his heart.
She slowly walked to the bedside and gently held Zhao Yilu's hand. His hands looked rough and cracked due to days of running around and fighting, but at this moment, her palms were extremely warm.
"What a silly boy, he's still thinking about me at this time." Fan murmured to himself, his voice full of heartache.
She looked at Zhao Yilu's face carefully. He was usually full of vigor and vitality, but now he looked a little pale, with his brows slightly wrinkled, as if he was worried about something.
Fan Hua reached out and gently smoothed his brow, trying to smooth out his frown.
The ward was very quiet with only the two of them. Fan Hua could even hear the dripping sound of the medicine flowing into the infusion tube.
Seeing that Zhao Yilu was sleeping soundly, Fan Hua took out the spare clothes and toiletries that she had urgently packed for Zhao Yilu from the car. She then poured some warm water and a towel to wash his whole body so that he could sleep comfortably.
Time passed by minute by minute, and she was busy all the way around Zhao.
Fan Hua was conflicted. She hoped that Zhao Yilu would wake up soon, even if he was awakened by pain or by her. Only when she saw him wake up could she feel completely at ease.
But she also hoped that Zhao Yilu could sleep a little longer and make up for the sleep he had missed these days...
Finally, with a slight groan, Zhao Yilu's eyelids slowly opened. He looked at the ceiling in confusion. When his sight focused and he turned his head to see Fan Hua beside him, a bright smile immediately appeared on his face.
"Wife, when did you come? Hey, don't worry, I just got a little injured. I told you, I'll be fine. I'll have to take good care of you in the future. Now you can rest assured!" Zhao Yilu's voice was still a little hoarse, but his tone carried the ruffian air that Fan Hua was most familiar with.
Fan Hua chuckled and couldn't help but pat Zhao Yilu on the head. "You're still so talkative even though you're injured. Aren't you still injured? Didn't you promise me that you would be fine?" Fan Hua scolded.
Zhao Yilu smiled innocently and reached out to hold Fan Hua's hand. Seeing Fan Hua's slightly red and swollen eyes, he knew she must have been crying. His eyes were full of apology and pity. "I'm sorry, my dear, for making you worry. The situation on the battlefield changes rapidly, and I can't help it. But you have to believe that I will do my best to protect myself. With you and the child, I won't let myself get hurt. This time was really an accident."
Fan Huahui held Zhao Yilu's hand and placed his warm hand against her cheek. "Anyway, it's good that you're okay! Take good care of yourself these days, and listen to me!"
Zhao Yilu nodded and said, "Okay, I'll listen to my wife in everything!"
Only then did Fan Hua realize that the palm of the big hand touching her cheek was a little wet. She looked at Zhao Yilu again and saw that fine beads of sweat had already seeped out of his forehead.
