Chapter 40 A Hundred Claws Scratching the Heart

Yunling said firmly, "Look."

She was full of anticipation.

Qin Chuan pointed to the box by the door and said, "There's no paint in the house, so it doesn't look very nice."

Yunling looked over and saw that the wood was natural in color, which she liked. She said directly, "I like it. It doesn't need to be painted."

Qin Chuan's lips curled up slightly, and his eyes sparkled with amusement.

She then lifted the lid off and put it back on, very nimbly.

She was very satisfied with the box now, and tilted her head to ask, "Can I put the things in now?"

Qin Chuan smiled and said, "Sure, the wood at home has been stored for a long time, and there's very little moisture left in it."

Upon hearing this, Yunling immediately reopened the package and put the food inside, leaving it half full.

He opened the pork jerky and gave Qin Chuan some more.

She also ate a piece; it was chewy and had a sweet taste.

I ate two more pieces.

Qin Chuan also quite liked the flavor; he never expected that jerky could be made to taste like this.

It uses too much sugar.

After tidying up, Yunling saw smoke coming from the chimney, so she went out to help. As soon as she entered the kitchen, she saw Qin Rui holding a few dates and eating them.

These are dates they just picked from the mountain.

"Is it sweet?" Yunling asked with a smile.

Qin Rui said in a childish voice, "Sweet, delicious, thank you, Third Aunt."

Yunling pinched his soft cheek and praised, "Rui Rui is so sensible."

Qin Rui lowered her head shyly, her face turning red.

His aunt really loves pinching his cheeks.

After finishing the date in his hand, he pinched his cheek.

Not fun at all.

He lowered his head and continued eating the dates.

Yunling asked Qin Tiantian, who was tending the fire, "What do you need me to do?"

Qin Tiantian said, "Third Sister-in-law, we'll cook corn porridge tonight, and also mix some pickled vegetables, stir-fry some greens, and make a cold dish with the wild vegetables I picked today. Go pick some greens in the yard."

"Okay, I'll go then."

Yunling took a basket and went into the yard. The green vegetables in the field were lush and vibrant, and they looked delicious.

The greens have a lot of water content, so they don't retain much moisture when stir-fried. She filled a basket to the brim and squatted by the well in the yard to wash the greens and wild vegetables.

Back in the kitchen, Qin Tiantian took the washed vegetables and said, "Third Sister-in-law, could you watch Rui Rui for me? He's running around everywhere now, and if I'm not careful, he'll disappear somewhere."

So Yunling went to take care of the child. Qin Rui was probably not familiar with her yet, so he was quite well-behaved, only occasionally peeking at her with his round eyes.

She and he just happened to hit it off.

Qin Rui was stunned for a moment and covered his eyes with his hands.

Yunling chuckled and said, "Rui Rui, shall I teach you to count?"

Qin Rui lowered his hand, head down, and said, "I can count: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7..."

He scratched his head, unable to remember, and looked at Yunling with a confused expression.

Yunling suppressed a laugh, knowing that even children have their pride. So she taught Qin Rui to count from the beginning, took a piece of charcoal, wrote it on the ground, and taught Qin Rui to recognize it.

After teaching up to the fifteenth lesson, the others went home.

Zhang Guihua looked at Yunling, who was teaching her grandson to count. She was beautiful and educated, and she was very satisfied. She then asked about the trip to the county town that day.

All day at work, Liu Yun was thinking about what delicious food his third son's wife had eaten in the county town and what good things her family had sent her. He was restless and anxious.
