Yunling rolled her eyes at Liu Yun. She was too lazy to move, yet she was complaining about everything. What a nuisance.
Liu Yun: "Why are you so angry? I didn't say anything to you. Give it to me now, I don't mind."
She's the eldest sister-in-law; it's not right for her to make her brothers' wives do chores.
Yunling refused, and simply gave up, saying, "You know I have a bad temper, so don't order me around."
She snorted and turned to leave.
"Mom, I'll pick some for you."
Qin Tao braved the rain and ran into the vegetable garden, picking out a very fresh and tender cucumber.
Liu Yun glanced at Yun Ling, her eyes filled with smugness.
She took the cucumber from her daughter's hand and praised her with a smile, "My daughter is so great."
Qin Tao smiled shyly and wiped the rain off her face.
Yunling looked at Liu Yun with a complicated expression; this was her own daughter.
It turns out there really are mothers in the world who don't love their daughters.
She was truly amazed.
Qin Tiantian frowned and said, "Xiao Tao, come here and dry your hair."
What a silly child! It's raining outside, and you're already picking cucumbers.
What should I do if I get sick?
She handed the towel to Qin Tao, then looked at Liu Yun, who was munching on cucumbers, and said disapprovingly, "Sister-in-law, Xiao Tao is your own daughter. How can you bear to watch her pick cucumbers for you in the rain? You're a grown woman, can't you pick them yourself? Why do you have to let someone else pick them for you?"
Qin Yan looked at her sister, whose hair was a little wet, and muttered softly, "She didn't ask you to go, why are you going?"
Qin Tao said in the same soft voice, "I'm afraid my mother and third aunt will quarrel."
She tugged at her aunt's clothes and said, "I'm fine."
"Did you hear that? My daughter said it's nothing. You're making a fuss. What's a little rain?" Liu Yun finished eating the cucumber, wiped his mouth, and said nonchalantly.
Picking a cucumber doesn't take much effort.
Qin Tiantian sighed and looked at Qin Tao, saying, "You're still a child. Adult matters are none of your concern. Even if your mother and your third aunt are arguing, so what? No one will die."
Qin Tao obediently replied, "I understand."
"Good to know." Qin Tiantian said calmly.
It is unacceptable to alienate close relatives.
She shouldn't interfere too much in the affairs of that mother and daughter.
To avoid being disliked.
Or they're caught in the middle, neither inside nor outside.
"My sister is so stupid. Even when my mother calls me, I don't go," Qin Yan muttered.
Qin Tiantian rubbed Qin Yan's head and said with a smile, "You're just lazy."
"No, that's not it." Qin Yan frowned and dodged away. "I'm still a child, at the age where I should be playing."
Qin Tiantian chuckled twice and said, "Then you can take your sister to play from now on."
Qin Yan nodded.
She took Qin Tao's hand and said in a light voice, "Come on, let's play cat's cradle."
The two sisters chatted and laughed as they walked away.
"What are you talking about? It's so lively." Qin Shan asked as he entered.
It rained all night last night, and the cowshed collapsed.
Early in the morning, someone was calling out "Captain, Captain" at the door.
The brothers couldn't just lie in bed and sleep soundly, so their aging father braved the rain to lead people to repair the cowshed.
I had no choice but to go along.
After a busy morning, the cowshed was mostly repaired, and the leak inside wasn't too bad, so I came back.
I was so hungry.
He pushed open the kitchen door, only to find the stove and pots cold.
He and his second brother exchanged a glance, and both of them let out a long sigh.
"I'll steam some sweet potatoes for you guys to have a little something to tide you over before lunch." Qin Tiantian rolled up her sleeves and went into the kitchen.
Qin Shan looked at Liu Yun, who was leaning against the window, and called out, "Come and start the fire."
Liu Yun looked unwilling and said, "You just know how to order me around."
He complained, but his actions were swift and efficient.
Qin Shan picked up a towel and began wiping the rain off his body. Upon hearing this, he said, "Who told you to be my sister-in-law?"
He always talks about his elder sister-in-law, now's the perfect time to use that.
Liu Yun: Why should the eldest sister-in-law have to do more?
"What were you two talking about? I could hear you arguing from far away." Qin Shan noticed his wife's displeasure and immediately changed the subject.
Qin Tiantian recounted what had just happened with a half-smile.
Qin Shan's face immediately darkened, and he looked at Liu Yun with a cold gaze, saying, "Xiao Tao is my own daughter. If you ever order her around like this again, I'll teach you a lesson."
I knew my wife favored sons over daughters, but I never expected her to go this far.
It's still a piece of flesh that fell from my body.
How could they treat us like this?
Liu Yun nodded awkwardly.
Is it that so?
She started taking on all the household chores when she was four or five years old, always circling around the stove.
Why are young girls so pampered these days?
However, seeing the disapproving looks in everyone's eyes, she didn't dare to say anything.
He mumbled, "I understand, I won't do it again."
Qin Shan waved to Qin Tao, who was standing to the side, and said, "If your mother ever asks you to do anything excessive again, come find me and your grandparents."
Qin Tao glanced at Liu Yun cautiously, then nodded nervously.
It seems she's gotten into trouble again.
Qin Shan felt a pang of heartache seeing his daughter's cautious demeanor. He patted her head and said, "Tell your father if you've been wronged."
Qin Tao nodded.
"Can I tell Dad if I'm wronged?" Qin Yan looked up at her father, who was eating cucumbers, and asked.
Qin Hai chuckled and said, "My daughter is so smart, how could she be wronged?"
They run faster than anyone else when they see food.
They're quicker than anyone to run away from doing anything.
Wang Xiuxiu gave her daughter a disappointed look, then saw the crumbs on her mouth, reached out and wiped them off, saying, "You're eating all over your mouth. Girls should pay attention to their appearance."
Qin Yan chuckled, hid behind her father, and stared longingly at the cucumber in his hand.
Qin Hai broke it down for her and said, "She's incredibly lazy."
The sweet potatoes are ready.
One per person.
Liu Yun picked out a small one and handed it to Yunling.
Yunling wasn't hungry, but she didn't want to spoil Liu Yun, so she quickly swapped their sweet potatoes.
Then he hid behind Qin Chuan.
Liu Yun glared at Yun Ling.
It's really not a loss at all.
Yunling ignored him, broke off half of the piece, handed it to Qin Chuan, and asked, "Are you going out again this afternoon?"
Qin Chuan smiled and took it, then took a bite. "No, it's too sweet."
Yunling: ...
I have a feeling you're implying something.
After eating the sweet potatoes, the family sat and chatted.
They chatted about everything under the sun, enjoying themselves immensely.
