Chapter 27: Su Huai Arrives

That day, Su Li was writing the ending of her first novel when she suddenly heard a knock on the door. "Little sister, are you there?"

When Su Li came out, she saw a man in a navy blue Lenin suit, about seventeen or eighteen years old, knocking on the door breathlessly with a big package in his hand.

Su Li recognized that this was Yuan Yu's fifth brother, "Hey! Brother, you're here!"

He opened the door to let Su Huai in. Seeing Su Huai's hands holding the package, he was a little nervous. "Brother, you are here. What are you carrying? It's so heavy."

"Winter is coming, and mom is worried about you, so she asked me to bring you some relief." Su Huai said as he took out a large piece of pork, a piece of pork fat, 20 eggs, a small bag of brown sugar, a small piece of shredded cloth, and some cotton wool and dried vegetables from the package.

"Brother, I don't need all this stuff. You can take it and keep it at home. I don't want it."

She didn't know how her family had emptied out their savings to buy her so many things. She knew her family felt sorry for her being a widow at such a young age, but her parents also had to make a living, and all the things ended up in her hands. How would her sisters-in-law think of her, especially her nieces, who were almost all about to get married, but didn't have many decent clothes.

Su Li originally planned to return the royalties from those short stories to the Su family in a few days, but unexpectedly the Su family sent someone over first.

"How could I not want it? I know how hard it is for you to raise four children alone. If I hadn't taken your place, your life would be much better now. I'm sorry for you. This is 20 yuan of my own savings. Mom and your sister-in-law don't know about it. Take it and buy whatever you want."

"Brother, what are you saying? What's the point of saying sorry? Don't say such things anymore. I'm not having a hard time. Xie Zhengchuan's previous allowance is enough for me. I don't want this money. If you give it to me, I will tell my fifth sister-in-law to beat you up."

Although the Su family has many laborers and earns a lot of money, there are also many people who need to eat. In addition to giving Su Huai's salary to his mother, he only has five yuan left every month for his own use, and he also gives four yuan to his wife.

"She hit me if she wants. How can I be afraid of her? Besides, your fifth sister-in-law is pregnant. She is very nervous and just wants a girl. She dare not make any big moves."

Su Huai already had a son, and the couple hoped to have a girl to complete the family.

Finally, there was good news after several days. When Su Huai told Su Li about it, he smiled so hard that his teeth were showing.

"Fifth sister-in-law is pregnant, that's great. Brother, why are you still giving me eggs and brown sugar? Give them to Fifth sister-in-law. Give her an egg with brown sugar every day to nourish her."

"No, we have some at home. I make it for her every day. She has never let it go unnoticed. Today, in addition to delivering some gifts, I also came to see if you and the children are doing well. I've talked to our mother about this so that she can rest assured."

Su Huai looked at Su Li.

"Young man, don't worry. I'm living a good life now. I get along well with my sister-in-law and parents-in-law. The children are out playing. I'll go to the door and call them in. Can you see if they are there?"

"Hey! Come on! I haven't seen Hu Zi and the others for a long time. I miss them so much."

Su Li nodded and walked out the door, shouting at the top of her voice: "Tiedan, Huzi, Shitou, Baoya, come home quickly, your uncle is here."

Su Li blushed a little, but this is how people in rural areas call children. She called it a few times, but she still wasn't used to it.

Su Li went into the house and poured Su Huai a cup of hot water, added some ginger, brown sugar, and some spiritual spring water. Su Huai was wearing thin clothes and was sweating just now. Now that the sweat has stopped, he will probably feel cold soon. Su Li was afraid that he would catch a cold.

Su Huai took a sip of the hot water and felt refreshed. He felt a little cold just now, but now he felt full of energy. "It tastes so good. No wonder you women like to drink brown sugar water. Is it so delicious? Can it also replenish your energy?"

Su Li: “Hehe~”

"Uncle, uncle, why are you here?" Huzi ran to the house first, followed by Tiedan, Shitou and Baoya.

"My uncle missed you guys and came to see you."

Shitou hadn't seen Su Huai for a long time. In the past, Su Huai would bring them delicious food every time he came. "Did my uncle bring us any delicious food?"

Su Huai watched him smilingly as he reached into his pocket and took out three slingshots he had made.

Several kids: "Wow! We can each have one!"

Baoya saw that all her brothers had it, but she didn't, and she pouted at Su Huai.

"Yes! One for each of you. Baoya is a little girl and doesn't like to play with these. My uncle made a bamboo dragonfly for you. Do you like it?"

Su Huai held Baoya on his knees and handed the bamboo dragonfly in his hand to her.

"I like it, uncle. Baoya likes it." As she said this, she shook her short legs.

Su Huai looked at the colorful clothes the children were wearing and asked Baoya what they ate every day. Baoya whispered in his ear that her mother cooked delicious food for them every day. Su Huai also saw that the house was clean and tidy, and he felt relieved.

This time, Xifeng can give his mother a good explanation. He is relieved that his sister is doing well because he took over his sister's job. His wife has always been grateful to his sister. Later, when she found out that his sister was a mess, she sometimes wondered if it was their problem and she blamed herself a lot.

Now that my sister can live a good life, I don’t have to worry too much about my wife.

"I'll be relieved if you can lead a good life with your children. If you have any problems, tell your family. Your parents and your brother and sister-in-law will help you. Don't worry. I'll do it now to save your parents and sister-in-law from worrying."

"Brother, please stay for lunch and try my cooking. Come to think of it, you haven't eaten my cooking for a long time!" Su Li said as she was about to go into the kitchen.

"No need, I'll leave now. You can come and take a look when you have time." After saying that, Su Huai gathered his clothes and ran out of the room.

"Brother, brother, please take the things." Su Li took two quick steps and called Su Huai.

"Uncle, uncle, don't go," several children also called him.

Su Huai ran a few steps quickly, looked at the others, his eyes warmed, he cleared his throat and said loudly, "Little sister, come on! Be well, I'll come to see you after a while."

The children looked at Su Huai who was running away, and then looked at Su Li.

Shitou: "Mom, why did my uncle run away? Your cooking is so delicious."

Baoya: "My uncle ran away."

Wrap Baoya up and said, "Uncle is afraid that mom will be tired. Did you have fun playing outside? Mom will make dumplings for you at noon, okay?"

Tiedan loves dumplings the most. When he heard that we were going to have dumplings for lunch, his eyes lit up. "Okay! Mom, I'll help you!"

Su Li put Baoya on the kang, took out a few oranges and a pack of biscuits for them to eat, "No need for your help, just look after the brothers and sisters, mom will be ready soon, you will be responsible for having an extra bowl later, okay."

Tiedan: "Okay, Mom, I'll take good care of my brothers and sisters."

Su Li: "Let's share the oranges and cookies! Mom is cooking."

After packing up the things that Su Huai brought, she took the meat and pork belly and dried rapeseed to the kitchen, cleaned the pot, and began to boil lard. She put the boiled lard in a clay pot to cool, and chopped the remaining lard residue and cooked it with rapeseed and vermicelli.

After mixing the dumpling stuffing, Su Li took the ready-made dumpling skins from the space and started making dumplings. In total, she made more than 150 dumplings. There was another pot on the coal stove, the water was already boiling, and Su Li started to put the dumplings in.

After everything was cooked, Su Li prepared two dipping sauces, one for the children was non-spicy and one for herself was spicy.

He took another soup bowl and filled it with forty or fifty dumplings, then asked Tiedan to take it to the next door.

When Tiedan brought the dumplings over, the Xie family was having dinner. When the dumplings were served, the table was filled with the sound of slurping rice. No one spoke for fear of not eating enough, especially Xie Zhengyang, who was a foodie. Everyone looked very satisfied after the meal.
