Chapter 4: Traveling Through the 1970s

After the original owner's mother passed away, the original owner's father sent the original owner back to his parents' home in the countryside to be raised when he was less than a month old, on the grounds that he could not raise a child alone.

Then, stepmother Zhang Hongyan came into the family and gave birth to my younger brother Xu Lei.

Li Yan told the original owner this because she hoped she would not attribute such feudal and superstitious remarks as "the calamity star that kills the mother" and "the debt collector ghost" to herself, thinking that she was the one who killed her mother.

In addition to daily teaching of the original owner, Li Yan was also worried that she would be bullied outside because of her family background, so she took her to visit the teacher and the principal.

From the factory primary school to the factory high school, all the teachers knew that Li Yan was the original owner's godmother. The original owner had never been discriminated against or bullied in school.

The original owner did successfully complete high school and was about to start working in a factory.

Everything was going smoothly, but the original owner's half-brother Xu Lei, who was one year younger than the original owner, was in the same year as the original owner and also graduated this year.

Nowadays, universities recommend students to go to university, but Xu Lei does not have the qualifications and cannot go to university.

Jobs are hard to come by now, and even temporary workers are hard to find.

Unable to go to university and unable to find a job, according to the current policy, Xu Lei had to go to the countryside to work as a sent-down youth.

The current policy is that unless the child is an only child, every family must send one child to the countryside.

If you don't go to the countryside, the Youth League Office and the Street Office will take turns visiting you to persuade you. If you refuse to cooperate, they will send people to find the leaders of your work unit to persuade you.

In this situation, basically no one can escape.

In their family, the original owner had a job, but his younger brother Xu Lei didn't. So wouldn't Xu Lei be the only one who had to go to the countryside?

Stepmother Zhang Hongyan was reluctant to see her son suffer, but she was just a temporary worker and could not help her son at all.

He had no choice but to persuade Xu's father to ask the original owner to give the job to his younger brother.
